BBU Stable Bantamweight Tournament: Semi-Finals

The second semifinal of the BBU Championship tournament in the bantamweight division features Alesha Dixon (Beever's Babes; 10-5, 6 KO) and Jessica Schwarz (Lioness Club; 5-1, 5 KO). There has been a war of words between these two before the fight and both women are confident of knocking each other out and advancing into the final where the reigning champion Una Healy awaits her opponent.

In the quarterfinals stage Alesha Dixon knocked out Amy Nuttall in R4 while Jessica Schwarz did likewise with Nicola Roberts albeit needed 10 rounds before finally getting the KO herself.

Round 1:

Despite some strong words before the fight, both girls seem to be wary of each other's skills and prefer a cautious approach. Single jabs and aborted attacks highlight the opening round as neither woman really wants to unleash a serious offensive sequence. Alesha tries to steps in a couple of times, but Jessica jumps back and circles around the ropes. Dixon doesn't waste any energy and keeps an eye on her opponent but drops her attempts as Schwarz tries a low combination in the closing stages but that's well blocked by the Englishwoman.

Round 2:

Jessica starts to jab her rival more aggressively and nearly forces her into the corner early on. However Alesha cuts off the German's punches and ducks away into the clear leaving Schwarz frustrated. Jessica delivers a low hook to the ribs in center of the ring but Alesha responds with a big uppercut that just misses the German's nose. Briefly exposed, Dixon takes a couple of big hits to the stomach and now Jessica finally manages to push her along the ropes. She follows through and makes more damage to Alesha's midsection but the Englishwoman clinches her and shoves into the corner. She tries a low combination but Jessica is much quicker on her feet and jumps back to center of the ring. Dixon tries to chase her and close the distance but Jessica delivers a stiff jab instead and nearly caught Alesha in full-swing. She manages to swing her head right and the German's punch skims off her ear.

Round 3:

Encouraged by the previous round, Jessica comes forward early on in the third and lands a flurry of punches to push her opponent back along the ropes. Schwarz tries her best to cut through Dixon's guard and work on her face but Alesha is holding up well. It only causes more anger for Jessica who steps back and tries to think of a better way of finally inflicting serious damage. Dixon moves to center of the ring and delivers a good combination on her own, forcing the German to circle away along the ropes. She continues to hassle around the ring and avoid closing the distance with Dixon. The round ends with Schwarz still making the better impression thus far.

Round 4:

Things are not looking good for Dixon and the word is that Beever's Babes owner Dave Knowles has been on the phone talking to the corner crew during the interval, offering some help. Alesha has received some important tips and looks fiery out of her stool to being the fourth round. She immediately caught Jessica with a flying hook which makes the German's head jump back. Alesha goes for the follow up and scores many unanswered blows which trap Schwarz in the corner. However Dixon can't finish this off as Jessica still has a lot of strength and clinches to avoid further trouble. A brief struggle occurs in the corner as the referee separates the two wild cats. Alesha continues to launch numerous jabs to her opponent's stomach joined by a couple of big hooks to the face and that causes a small cut just over Jessica's right eye.

Round 5:

There isn't any serious bleeding from the cut just yet, but Schwarz has lost the momentum in the previous round and continues to struggle in the fifth. Alesha traps her in the corner early on again and punches at will breaking through the German's guard a number of times. She has firmly switched into the attacking mode and cause a lot of trouble for the brunette who moans in pain and is unable to clinch. A couple of big uppercuts finally send Schwarz down on her knees halfway through the round and referee counts her to six before the German is able to get up on her feet. Dixon continues pounding her though and it's only Jessica's sheer determination that sees her staying upright until the bell. However she walks very tired towards her corner and the bleeding from the cut above the eye is getting worse.

Round 6:

More solid punching from Dixon who enjoys a good spell in the ring peppering her rival's ribs and stomach with single jabs working on Jessica's head too. German fighter doesn't want to close the distance and is happy to circle around the ropes as Alesha threatens her with every move and not dropping her aggressive approach. No really big hits in this round but Dixon is much quicker on her feet, landing more punches and making a much better impression. Jessica is happy just to fake few punches and doesn't engage in any serious action.

Round 7:

Alesha still in much better shape targets to open the cut on Jessica's face and works on it with several jabs. Schwarz is pinned along the ropes and ducks low landing some good hits to her foe's unprotected stomach. That catches Dixon by surprise and she clinches in response as both girls struggle along in the corner. Jessica leans forward and is able to land some more punches to the Englishwoman's midsection. Dixon is frustrated and jumps back but her feet tangle together and she briefly loses her balance. Schwarz spots the opportunity and lands a flying right hook which lands right underneath Alesha's left eye. Instant cut appears and now it's the Beever's Babe who is suddenly bleeding. Both girls wounded at the bell and Jessica might have stolen this round away from her opponent.

Round 8:

Dixon is clearly upset about the cut under her eye but her coach tells her to take it easy in this round. She waits for Jessica's attack and it comes quickly as the German lands several punches to the ribs and stomach. Alesha responds with some good punches to side of the head but they crash against Schwarz's guard. It's all getting very hectic in the center of the ring as both girls are punching wildly looking to break each other down. Neither is gaining any real advantage until the very end of the round when Jessica finally loses her balance and slides back to the ropes as Alesha steps in on her again along the ropes. There's blood coming out of Dixon's cut but she makes sure that her rival has the same problem as she opens the cut on Jessica's face right at the bell. Referee jumps between the two bleeding fighters and orders the medical team to work on both cuts during the interval.

Round 9:

After the slugfest in the previous round, both girls look like they need to catch their breath and the interval wasn't long enough to recover. Both Alesha and Jessica look really exhausted now with swollen faces and cuts on their faces. Some single punches from Alesha are met with similar efforts from the German as neither looks fit enough to score a knockout in these late stages of the fight. The most passive round since the opener finally concludes and there's still a lot of uncertainty over the final outcome if the fight goes to the scorecards.

Round 10:

Both girls are told that they need to get out there and win this round which might swing the final verdict in favor of the more aggressive fighter. Alesha looks to have saved more energy in this round and scores some good hits early on, peppering Jessica's stomach and ribs. German clinches along the ropes but manages to land some jabs on her own below Dixon's elbow. Bith girls are moaning in pain and it's a real struggle in the corner as Jessica turns Alesha's back against the corner post and lands a big hook to her stomach. Alesha drops her arms and looks to be hurting a lot as Jessica pounds her in the chest and ribs several times. With one minute on the clock remaining Alesha's knees finally give way when Jessica catches her with a hook to the jaw and she slides down in agony. Referee jumps in the corner and counts the aching Englishwoman to eight, checks the cut underneath her eye, before allowing her to continue. Jessica dominates the final forty seconds of the contest as she lands several unanswered hits to the body and face and at the bell Dixon is covered with blood as the cut under her eye has been ripped wide open again. Jessica raises her gloves in victorious pose and Alesha's face is a mess with blood pouring from the open cut. This isn't a pretty sight but despite Dixon clearly losing the final round, the fight will go to the scorecards and it's really anyone for the taking.

Ring announcer steps to center of the ring and calls the verdict:

- Ladies and gentlemen, after ten round of boxing we go to the scorecards. The judges have scored the bout and we have a split decision!

The Beever's Babes camp erupts in joy as Alesha spots an extremely sore & bloody face and looks tentative in showing her delight but she's done enough to defeat Jessica Schwarz in a split decision contest. Meanwhile it's a grim sight over in the Lioness Club corner as Jessica shakes her head numerous times and coach Gina Wild is looking like she's been hit with a rock as well. Despite Schwarz's best efforts and a truly fascinating final round, it wasn't good enough to see the German advancing into the final. Alesha Dixon gave Jessica Schwarz only the second loss of her career and now faces reigning champion Una Healy in battle for the BBU bantamweight title.
