TESS VALMORE
LOWNDES/ MEESTER
The first fight of the night and the first upset. Actually, this fight was a complete disgrace. Meester had dominated every round but the but the sixth, which Lowndes won by fouling. The eighth round is one that should be shown over and over again as an example of complete referee incompetence. Who licensed this guy? Lowndes used a grip on Meester’s bandeau to hold and punch her and then drag her off the canvas, This result should be declared invalid
RUAH/ GARRETT An interesting matchup. A brunette trying to get into the FCBA, and a blonde trying to stay there. Early, it looked like Garrett was going to have her way with Ruah, as she swept the first four rounds. In the fifth, a single Ruah right hand to Garrett’s jaw changed the fight. After that it was all Ruah, who took every remaining round including flooring Garrett in the sixth and ninth. Ruah got the decision. I suspect some managers are going to looking at Ruah while Garrett’s career has essentially ended
VANDERVOORT/ MICHALKA I had Vandervoort getting a leg up in the fashion area.
Really Aly, that bright purple bikini did nothing for you. That was Laura’s high point. Michalka dominated the first round putting Vandervoort on the canvas. In the second, Vandervoort made the mistake to punching with Michalka, only to eat a huge right hand Vandervoort went down and didn’t hear the ten count. An impressive KO for Michalka
SWANEPOEL/ DEELEY A pair of foreign born models. Deeley got off to a good start taking three of the first four rounds. Swanepoel took the fifth. In the sixth, Deeley gave Swanepoel a beating, while pulling her hair. Big mistake. Swanepoel took over and gave Deeley a beating over the remaining rounds including using the old hold the bandeau tactic. After the fight we had to endure the spectacle of those two tramp reporters from Blonde and Ingenue getting into fist fight over an interview. Totally degrading.
HAZELL/ ELLISON A JMD fight. We don’t do JMD fights but Hazell won
LEYODEN/ RYDER Sometimes, unbelievable things happen. They did in this fight. Ryder actually won a fight. For the first four rounds, the bout went as expected with Leyoden having her way. If there is a thing such as a lucky punch, Ryder landed it in the beginning of the fifth, dropping Leyoden. Ryder, then, unleashed on Leyoden using a pair of fouls to set her up and pound her until the referee, who didn’t call the fouls, stepped in to stop the fight. The fight cost Leyoden her spot in the FCBA
WINSTEAD/ ROHM It’s been a long hard road for Winstead, but she came through this bout like a champ. The first three rounds were competitive but Winstead took all three. In the fourth, she simply took Rohm apart and had her out of her feet when the ref stopped the fight. Winstead TKO4
VANCAMP/ MITCHELL They may be a pair of borderline celebrities, but they put on a good fight while it lasted. Mitchell took the first round. Vancamp had Mitchell hurt in the second only be decked by Mitchell in the third. The fourth was a good round spectator-wise. In the fifth, Mitchell landed a right uppercut stunning Vancamp, and leaving her open to a vicious beating that ended when the referee stopped the fight
PANETTIERE/ TISDALE. It seemed to me that Tisdale was delusional in taking this fight. At it turned out, she was delusional. Panettiere took round after round until Tisdale finally won a round in the seventh. In doing so, however, she drained her tank and was easy picking for Panettiere, who ended the fight with a left hook to the chin. Panettiere KO8
HEARD/ COOK It was Heard’s maiden fight. She didn’t do much better than her television show. Both got cancelled. It wasn’t a bad fight. Two two swapped rounds with Heard taking the odd, and Cook the even, until the sixth. Cook ended the bout with a crashing right to the chin that left Heard counted out on her face
ROBBIE/ DECESARE Robbie played up her television role as much as she could, but in the end it didn’t help. I don’t think anyone really expected her to win and nobody was surprised. Robbie did have a good third round when she put Decesare on the canvas with a stomach punch. Unfortunately she didn’t put Decesare away. The fourth and fifth rounds were all Decesare, who gave Robbie such a beating in the fifth that the fight was stopped
McADAMS/ PARK It’s no secret that I know Grace very well, but I was a little surprised that she won this fight. Sure takes a lot of pressure of her at Front Street. This was a good fight. i thought McAdams was having the best of it until the fifth, when Park finished strongly. She hurt McAdams at the beginning of the sixth with a blast to the ribs and unleashed a fierce body attack that dropped McAdams for an eight count. McAdams got up but was easy pickings for Grace and the fight was stopped
MONTGOMERY/ MUNN I thought Montgomery was a little old to be taking on Munn (Don’t remind me of my big mistake on their ages in my predictions) This was a good fight. After Montgomery took the first round, Munn won the next two. Munn went down in the fourth and Montgomery in the fifth. Montgomery went down again the the seventh. She would rally in the eighth but Munn salted the fight away by taking the last two rounds. Munn moved Leyoden back to Europe
CUCUO/ LIVELY While there is no question that Lively can hit with the best, we thought that Cucuo would win this fight, even though she was giving away 3 1/2 inches in height. Cucuo was doing quite well through three, using leaping power leads. That proved her downfall in the fourth. Lively timed one of those leaping leads and blasted Cucuo with a right that left Cucuo face down on the canvas out cold
HELFER/ BIEL Two first class lightweights. All said, Biel was impressive. Helfer dictated the first round and the first half of the second. Late in the round Biel floored Helfer with a right to the chin stealing the round. Helfer was back on top in the third until the Biel landed a sweeping just above the hip and Helfer went down in agony and was unable to get up. Helfer’s corner is crying foul. We are going to have to take another look at the tape, but right now we go with the ref’s judgement for once
LOKEN/ THERON Since her return from retirement, the “golden goddess had lost every fight to a taller opponent. No more. What a fight. The two threw more power punches in five minutes than other fighters did in ten round fights tonight. Charlize’s only hope was to box, or so we thought. As usual, she decided to fight a dumb fight and slug. Theron was down in the first round and barely managed to finish the round. The second round was just as brutal but Theron managed to find Loken’s weak point, her chin and Loken end up in dreamland. Charlize was a little full of herself post fight, but it was hopefully the adrenalin still pumping
BENZ/ LILLY It had been a good night for the Academy until this fight as Lilly spoiled Miss Ginny’s night. It was a competitive fight for awhile. The two were even through four as Benz chalked up a knockdown in the second. They were even through six although Lilly had the momentum. The momentum continued in the seventh as Lilly hurt Benz to the body, and then shifted to the head putting Benz helpless and the fight was halted
WILLIAMS/ HUDGENS I wonder how Hudgens is going to sign off now? She tried a three peat and failed and failed badly. After Hudgens took the first round, Williams reeled off six straight. It was apparent the Hudgens would need a knockout to win and she came close in the eighth, but Williams survived and managed to take the last two rounds for a wide decision Mish might have been a little rough, but that is typical and Hudgens should have been prepared
COLE/ PEREGRYM You could call this a feel good fight and I mean no disrespect to Cole. Peregrym had a spectacular bantam career and risked a lot moving up to lightweight. Now she is the champ. It was an interesting fight but compared to the five minutes of Loken/ Theron, rather mundane. There were no knockdowns and as far as I could tell neither fighter was hurt. The two concentrated on bodywork most of the fight. Peregrym had a wide lead through seven but Cole made it anyone’s fight by taking rounds eight and nine. Peregrym got the last round and the title. The lightweight title seems to becoming as slippery as the flyweight.
RIGHETTI/ LAW An unexpected bout. We didn’t predict this fight but we are on record as never betting against Righetti, I don’t care who she fights. Law gave a better account of herself than we expected. It was an exciting first round with Law going down in the beginning and Righetti late. Amanda got another knockdown in the fourth. Law had a good round in the fifth but the sixth marked the beginning of the end. Righetti dominated the sixth and seventh and then floored the Law three times in the eighth before the referee stopped the fight. I know that Bridget has beaten Amanda twice but I can’t help feeling Amanda is still the best pound for pound fighter |
