At 5 feet 7, Neve towers over the 5 feet 3 Freema, and, having made bantamweight for the weigh-in – just – she seems to have packed the pounds back on since – she has to be around 10 pounds over the limit by the time she gets into the ring.

Freema’s waiting for Neve, wearing a black one-piece outfit, and when neve enters she looks damned fine in a red one piece, confident of adding the Brit to her list of knock out victims.

Round 1:

If she’s nervous of fighting an FCBA superstar the fearless Freema doesn’t show it, and she’s right at Neve with whirlwind punching, cuffing the bigger girl hard around the lips early on, and she hurts her with a solid left right combination which she lands from close range. This round shows all the hallmarks of being the precursor to another shock on this night of shocks, as Neve gets simply slugged to ropes, and pulverised bell to bell by the smaller girl. Neve's big body sponges it up, but she's getting outworked by a huge margin here, as Freema easily captures the first round.

Round 2:

Freema comes out to continue the drubbing, but big Neve has other ideas, and works her to the ropes where she lands two, three, four withering hooks to Freema's liver, the Brit squaling out and buckling with the pain of those punches. Freema regroups well, as the round progresses, and she’s slowly retaking the initiative, pummeling and pressuring Neve to the ropes. Freema’s just jackhammering away at the Canadian, those punches now beginning to really hurt the older girl, and the fans are cheering as one of their favourite little battlers gives the bigger actress a real pasting, taking another round.

Round 3:

Neve’s trying to get a little respect from the BBU girl now, looking to intimidate her, and both girls are ripping to the body now – there’s a wicked series of engagements at close range with both women giving and getting punishment to their fleshier areas but it’s Neve who has to give. Freema is landing the cleaner shots, and her defence is maybe a little tighter, but she’s gradually winning out, forcing Neve back through sheer volume of punches. Neve gets taken to the ropes late on in the round, slipping and blocking as Freema romps to her third straight winning round, busting the Canadian up to the body.

Round 4:

Neve has to change tactics, and she does, with good effect, picking her punches and looking to stun the shorter girl from distance, being selective, looking to time her counter attacks better. Even though Freema’s whirling in again with tireless savagery, the taller girl is now resisting better, and now she keeps back off ropes, uses the middle of the ring, sidesteps for angles and shows her vast experience to bop and smack at Freema’s face, knocking her around a little late on, and taking the round easily.

Round 5:

Neve changes her stance and tactics again, now and she kind of sets out her stall be staying around the ropes, crouching and drawing Freema in a la Britney Spears, waiting for the shorter girl to make a mistake. But it doesn’t look like Freema’s making any mistakes tonight, and she’s laying siege to big Neve, the Canadian fighting back to the little girl’s face, looking to place counters off the ropes. Freema works for points as both girls take punishment, and even though Freema is the one with the sore mouth at the end of the round, it’s hers again.

Round 6:

Neve continues to rope-a-dope, drawing Freema in, and possibly letting the Brit punch herself out. This is a dangerous game though, as Freema’s hurting her and just continues to assault her in waves. Neve looks a little desperate as the round draws on, and she’s annoying the fans, and the BBU corner by holding and hitting their girl, slowing her down, but never getting reprimanded for it. Neve's big body holds firm as Freema starts to wilt late on, and Neve nicks the round from her as she belts her with left and right hand shots at the close.

Round 7:

The pattern seems to be setting itself, with Neve barely emerging from the ropes early on, almost beckoning Freema, who just wades in regardless. The canny Ms Campbell is picking Freema off now though, and subjecting the Brit to hard punching counter attacks to both her body and head, then cuddling her up, bogging her down. Freema’s getting banged up, frustrated, and she’s weakening - her output's dropping as Neve hammers her around the ring, starting to bust the girl’s face up a bit, and take another round.

Round 8:

Freema regathers herself between rounds, sensing that she’s losing the initiative in a fight she was winning with sheer effort, and she’s belting away to Neve’s aching torso once more, pummeling the big Canadian, and shoving her onto those faithful ropes. It’s a painful patch of time for Campbell but she covers up and clinches as Freema storms into her, unable to land any of those measured shots to the face, because she’s far too busy just blocking and spoiling, with the Brit now setting her stall out for what must be the best night of her short career to date.

Round 9:

The fight reverts to type as Neve keeps herself tight on the ropes, and lets Freema come to her, knd of allows the Brit to punch herself out, then rips at the younger girl with stunning jabs and hooks, her face now streaked with blood from a wound on her left eyebrow, which Neve expertly focuses on, then with Freema driving into her, head down, she cuffs her upright with a couple of short-armed uppercuts, and gives her some heavy stick in a neutral corner in the closing seconds, once more closing the gap in points.

Round 10:

The round begins in that familiar style of the fight, with Neve on the ropes, now actually inviting a tiring Freema in, then expertly picking her off, banging away to her face, then tying her up when she gets in really close, never letting her land from close range, but at the same time she’s hooking the Brit really hard to the body, really taking it out of her. This is good, patient stuff of the ropes from the bigger girl, and game little Freema pretty much exhausts herself with head-on attacks, taking savage punishment from the Campbell hook too, and Freema’s visibly wilting before the fans’ eyes, her knees almost buckling as Neve drills punches into her midsection late. Surely taking the final round off the home girl.

Both fighters think they’ve won – they’re both wrong, as the judges all come back with even scorecards – it’s a draw!

That’s a good result for Freema, but it’s not over! There’s a tie break agreement in operation in these fights tonight, and the girls are to fight on. The winner will be the first girl to win two successive rounds in overtime, or an unanswered knockdown in a round, or of course a clean knockout.

Round 11:

Neve comes out strongly immediately against a spent Freema, and she’s hooking the Brit hard to the ribs and liver as she bounds off the ropes, pastes the girl, then drops Freema to the canvas with a body shot, the girl rolling over in pain, rising slowly at 8. Now Neve seems to relax and give Freema an exhibition, the shorter girl just a static target for the Canadian’s punches, with Neve banging her to the face so easily, shutting her wounded left eye, and as thee girls enter the final minute Neve sets Freema up on the ropes, almost drags her guard down, then rips a right hook to her jaw, sending her back to the canvas. Freema somehow clambers to her feet, then, possibly out of good sportsmanship from Neve, she survives the round but the referee’s raising Neve’s glove aloft at the bell.

Neve Campbell beat Freema Agyeman in overtime due to two unanswered knockdowns.

Freema is clearly exhausted, distraught that she has lost a second fight beyond the normal 10th round, and there’s fear in her eyes for the first time as she sees big Neve approach her. But she needn’t worry – the Canadian’s come to take her on a lap of honour round the ring – not a walk of shame – the girls have their arms around one another after a grueling contest and a thrilling night of boxing.
