BEFORE:
"Well, what have I got to lose?" Asks a smiling Sarah. "I mean, SHE'S Gemma Arterton, the reigning Queen of British Boxing. She's the top ten lightweight. I'm just her opponent. But. She has a chin. And I've got a right hand. Let's just see what happens if the twain should ever meet."
"Let's just be clear on this," says Gemma. "I am NOT taking this girl lightly. I know her record. I know what the oddsmakers say. And none of that matters. Think about stuff like that in the FCBA and you're going to get yourself beaten. I've prepared for her the same way I did for Lively, Zeta-Jones, Torv, anyone else I've fought. The same way I would for Peregrym or Theron. She's an FCBA fighter. She's dangerous. I've got to be at the top of my game to beat her. And I am."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "And that's 'Dreaming Of You' by The Coral you're hearing and here comes Sarah Chalke of the BBU. Chalke makes her way to the ring, helped off with the robe...we've seen that red bikini before and she looks pretty good in it."
McCarthy: "Yeah, but that interview didn't make any sense. When's she meeting Shania Twain?"
O'Dell: "Aaaaand the crowd popping now as 'London Calling' by The Clash booms over the speakers and here comes 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton. Mac, what's your take on Gemma saying that she isn't taking Chalke lightly?"
McCarthy: "Well, I'm sure she's TRYING not to. But, here's a girl who doesn't have an FCBA win against a girl who's rated in the top ten. Now, I think that might be a little high, because CERTAIN magazines tend to overrate Front Street fighters..."
Tess: "WATCH it!"
McCarthy: "But, Arterton is clearly more than a cut above Chalke and she knows it. So, I don't think Gemma's taking her as seriously as she's making out, and that CAN be dangerous..."
Tess: "Two words. Poppy. Montgomery."
McCarthy: "SHUT IT!"
O'Dell: "Arterton helped off with the robe by Neve and Britney, who are handling the corner with Jewel in action tonight...and that violet number is very nice!"
Tess: "Gemma's a naturally beautiful woman. With the accent on 'naturally'."
McCarthy: "I'm WARNING you, Walmart!"
O'Dell: "Can we get a prediction, Mac?"
McCarthy: "Gemma a clear favorite here. No question about that."
O'Dell: "And there's the bell to start the first. Gemma immediately in forward motion. Chalke not planning to mix it up. Looking to stick and move. Arterton advancing behind the jab. Landing that solid left. Looking to work rights off of it. Sarah not going to stay in there. Moving. Legging. Trying to jab to keep the brunette off."
McCarthy: "Chalke needs to set and punch, though. Can't throw powder puff stuff off her back foot."
O'Dell: "Gemma not letting her get set. Dogged in pursuit. Good head movement. Working past Chalke's jab. Cutting the ring. Landing the left. Fitting the occasional right before Sarah can find some space."
McCarthy: "I don't blame Chalke for not wanting to bang with Arterton. But she's got to find a way to set her feet and land something."
O'Dell: "Not happening here in the first. Gemma boring in on the blonde. Lands a good one-two right there and that's the bell. Pretty one-sided round, Mac."
McCarthy: "Definitely. Gemma's round easily."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second round underway, and again it's the brunette on the hunt. Chalke moving well, bobbing and reversing. Using the legs. Gemma locating with that left jab. Now hooking the body off of it."
McCarthy: "Good strategy for Arterton. When you get someone who wants to leg it out, work the body and the legs will go. Brit must have come up with that. No way is Campbell smart enough..."
Tess: "Maybe she asked Shania Twain for advice..."
McCarthy: "Is Shania here? I haven't seen her!"
O'Dell(sighing): "Gemma cutting off the ring, hooking the ribs with the right hand. Backing Chalke into the ropes..."
McCarthy: "Sarah doesn't want to be there..."
O'Dell: "Gemma likes it just fine, however. Snaps the head back with a straight left, slams the right to the belly. Chalke trying to tie up, but Gemma pounding free hooking the lats and ribs, bringing down the blonde's guard. Chalke taking it hard to the body here. Gemma bangs a left hook to the side of the head, slams a right into the belly. Sarah tying up. Going to get a break here from the referee."
McCarthy: "She needs to get back moving. The BBU corner telling her to get on her toes."
O'Dell: "And Chalke listening. Finding open canvas. Gemma back on the hunt. Walking through the jab, hooking the midsection again as the round comes to an end."
McCarthy: "That one was even wider for Gemma. 20-18 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third round now and Gemma right off the stool and after Sarah. Chalke lands a double pump on the jab and takes a hook to the body in response. Gemma cutting the blonde off, working her back toward the ropes again. Chalke trying to tie up. Gemma punching free. Slamming a pair of hooks to the body. Chalke tying up around the head. Gemma shoves free, eats a left jab...RIGHT HAND, GEMMA! DOWN GOES CHALKE."
McCarthy: "This is OVER! Referee doesn't have to count. That punch knocked Sarah into the ropes and she bounced off and bellied in. She's not moving at all!"
O'Dell: "Eight. Nine. Ten. It's over. And the winner by KO3 is Gemma Arterton! Nasty right hand, Mac! "
McCarthy: "Check the replay. Watch Gemma shove free. Chalke snaps out a left and Gemma times a right hand, landing it flush before Sarah can get her hand back. Swivels the head. Chalke falls back into the ropes and bounces forward, splashing down and out!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Chalke being brought around on her stool. Let's go to the ring where Tess Valmore has our winner!"
Tess: "Gemma, pretty good work tonight. You looked in control the whole way."
Gemma: "I was. I had business to take care of, didn't I? Couldn't mess around with her and let her get into the fight. I wanted to take command from the opening bell and get her out of there as quickly as I could. Neve said, be patient. Stay on her. The knockout will come. It did." |
