BEFORE:
"See, it's the Gabrielle Union comparison that's actually ticking me off," says Kelly, not a hint of a smile on her lovely face. "I know Union's a good boxer and I know Anna took her apart, but I'm younger and stronger than Gabby. I've got something she doesn't, one shot power. Ask Michalka."
"Actually, I've been pretty impressed with the tape I've seen on Kelly," says Anna. "She IS a Gabrielle Union type, but she's no clone. Not as slick, but more physical. She's a different kind of challenge. That's what Wiz always wants to throw at me. I'm up to it."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside for the Main Event, and that's 'Motivation' you're hearing fans, and that means the singer of said tune, Kelly Rowland, is on her way to the ring. Mac, you've seen the tape Anna talked about, tell me about Rowland."
McCarthy: "She's quite possibly for real, Jenny. I don't see what she did to Michalka as a fluke. The girl is quick, she's got power. And, wow, does she look good in that purple bikini!"
O'Dell: "She does at that, Mac, and now the music changes. That's Midnight Oil doing 'The Power and The Passion' and here comes Anna Torv."
McCarthy: "The ONE good fighter Front Street has. Torv isn't a poser. She's real and she's talented. All she needs is better management, management that won't waste time pushing no-talents like Scherzinger and Campbell and will get Anna the fights she needs to set her up for a shot at the belts."
O'Dell: "Torv again giving Mac the fist bump on the way to the ring. Climbing in now. Helped off with the robe, reveals that nice black number she prefers. Can we get a prediction, Mac?"
McCarthy: "Best fight of the night. Rowland is dangerous. We've seen it. But Torv is better. Anna will wear the kid down."
O'Dell: "Well, we'll find out, because there's the bell. Rowland bobbing and weaving, looking to close early, but Torv using that sledgehammer left jab to keep Rowland at middle distances, right where Anna wants her. Kelly trying to find angles to punch and can't do it. Torv moving her, forcing her back and left, finding her with the left, fitting in the rights."
McCarthy: "You could be watching tape of Torv/Union, because this is a replay of what Anna did to Gabby. Get the left going, use it to preempt your opponent's offense and set up the right."
O'Dell: "Nice flurry there by Torv! Threw four or five in succession and landed them all it seemed like. Rowland backs away, shakes the head, moves forward again. Not able to get off, forced onto the defensive. Target practice for the blonde right now."
McCarthy: "Shutting this kid out and shutting her down. Clinical. Discouraging stuff."
O'Dell: "Final flurry for Anna as she scores again at the bell. Great round for Torv, Mac!"
McCarthy: "Sure was. This is what she can do to you. Just pick you apart."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Round two underway now and Rowland bulling forward behind a high guard, taking punches on her gloves and shoulders, shoving Torv back, tying up, banging inside. Anna looking to get some space here, but Kelly smothering her, hooking the body. Torv hammering back to the flanks, nasty inside stuff...GOOD RIGHT UPPERCUT, ROWLAND!"
McCarthy: "That hurt Torv! Kelly mugging and mauling inside. Had Anna off balance and caught her with one!"
O'Dell: "Rowland going all in here! Torv in a tight guard and Kelly going body. Banging away lusty. Splits the gloves with a solid jab. Anna clinching, now slips free and gets back to the center. Rowland coming forward behind the jab. Torv still trying to shake it off. Kelly landing a combination. Backing Anna up. Rowland looking for the finisher!"
McCarthy: "Torv doing a good job of surviving. Just wants to get out of this round."
O'Dell: "She will, but not before taking a couple of more solid shots from Rowland, who fairly BOUNCES back to her corner!"
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Two very different rounds, Mac, and it looks like we're all tied up after two."
McCarthy: "I've got it 19-19, let's see what round three brings."
O'Dell: "Well, Kelly isn't looking to change anything. Forcing forward and crowding Torv. Anna lathering the body as Kelly ties up, looking to get physical."
McCarthy: "For the fans at home, this isn't about strength, it's about tactics. Anna's as strong as Kelly, probably stronger, but Torv likes to fight an organized fight, likes to box, likes to work some at middle distances. Kelly doesn't want to let her do that."
O'Dell: "Anna shoves Kelly off, lands a jab. Rowland back inside, tying up...UPPERCUT AGAIN! Torv's hurt again! Reels back into the ropes under heavy fire from Rowland!"
McCarthy: "Got her off balance again and found the chin. Torv's in trouble!"
O'Dell: "High, tight guard again for Torv. Kelly banging body, slamming punches off those gloves, splitting them with jabs, working the abs and lats with right hands. Anna trying to hold on again as Rowland goes to town. Good straight right, Kelly! Snapped Anna's head back!"
McCarthy: "Anyone who's ever questioned Anna's chin can stop now. She's taken four or five good shots from the girl who stopped Michalka and she won't go down."
O'Dell: "Good left-right to the head for Rowland as the bell rings. And Kelly's pounded into the lead through three!"
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Into the fourth now and Kelly looking to close again, but Anna not having any. Firing heavy jabs and circling behind them. Keeping Kelly off now. Rowland trying to work her way in again, but eats a solid left-right. Torv's got the legs working, stabilizing the front, backs Kelly up a step with a hard right hand."
McCarthy: "Anna's adjusted tactics a little here. Head hunting on Kelly as she tries to work in close instead of banging body. Stopping Rowland in her tracks again and again with that heavy jab."
O'Dell: "Good flurry there by Anna! Landed a three-punch combination to the head. Forcing Kelly back. Working forward behind the jab, giving Rowland angles. Kelly again not able to get off much, just like in the first round."
McCarthy: "This is good stuff from Torv. If this becomes a boxing match, Rowland can't beat her. Anna's too good technically."
O'Dell: "And a boxing match is what it's been here in the forth. Anna backing up Kelly with a double tap on the jab to end the round. All even at this point, Mac?"
McCarthy: "I've got it 38-38, yes."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Into the fifth of a scheduled ten, Mac, and it's been quite the fight so far. Rowland forward again, looking to get in tight with Anna, but Torv's got the range, stinging Kelly with hard, clean jabs, stopping her forward momentum, moving her backward, finding spots for good, solid right hands."
McCarthy: "Rowland's going to need to renegotiate terms here. She's not going to outbox Torv."
O'Dell: "It's certainly not looking like it. Anna lands a combination there. Kelly covers up, backs up, trying to get off but not able to do it."
McCarthy: "Torv controlling her with the jab, Jenny. Kelly's thrown over onto the defensive and she's getting picked apart."
O'Dell: "Anna patient. Finding spots, giving Rowland Angles. Jabbing her way to the bell."
McCarthy: "Back in the lead, I think, Jenny. I've got it 48-47 now."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "So far, this one has lived up to the Main Event billing. Round six, and Torv back to that accurate left hand. Kelly trying to crowd, hooks the body, gets in tight and ties up, wrestling in there with Anna. Torv shoves away, sticks the jab, circles. Kelly boring forward, dipping the head, tying up again."
McCarthy: "Rowland in a half crouch here trying to penetrate. Been able to do it some."
O'Dell: "Both women working body in close. Kelly's trapping Anna along the ropes here, tying up around the head..."
McCarthy: "RUNG HER UP! Torv wobbled again by that uppercut! Off balance with her head down and Rowland's quick hands able to take advantage."
O'Dell: "Torv again with a high tight guard as Rowland hammers the lats. Not head hunting this time, working body, then going upstairs. Bouncing shots off Anna's gloves, banging them behind the gloves, looking for another big one. Good left splits the guard, right follow up behind the ear. Rowland getting off solid here as the round ends!"
McCarthy: "Let's check replay on this uppercut. Kelly wrestling around wit Anna in there, wrapping around the head. Anna ducks the head to pull free and Kelly uses that uppercut...BANG! Same punch she finished Michalka with. Anna wouldn't go down, though."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Back to live action in a back and forth main event. Cards should be about even by our calculations, so every round will be key from here. And Torv off to a fast start this time, Mac! Closing with Rowland and landing some hard hooks to the head. Kelly backed up. Brunette fires back with a flurry, but Anna double taps the jab, hooks the body off of it."
McCarthy: "When Torv can back Rowland up, she can control her. Doing it right now with that jab."
O'Dell: "Rowland trying to work past, getting to the body a bit, but unable to work in tight. Anna showing good movement. Finding the range. Picking Kelly off. Rowland game. Still working forward. Throwing from range and landing some. Anna more accurate, though. Landing more and cleaner stuff. There's the bell to end number seven, and Torv may be back to the lead."
McCarthy: "Clear pattern developing, Jenny. Anna wins the quiet, controlled rounds. Kelly wins when she can make a wilder, inside brawl of things. Right now, we've had four of the quiet rounds, so Torv is up 67-66."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Torv showing a little damage in the face right now. Took a lot of hard shots in a few of those rounds. Corner working around her cheekbones between rounds. She looks ready to go as we start number eight, though. Torv popping that left into Kelly's face. Stopping her rival cold. Now pressing forward behind the jab. Backing Kelly up, hooking the ribs and lats off that jab."
McCarthy: "Anna looking to punish now. Trying to put the hurt on the kid."
O'Dell: "And she's getting that done. Got Rowland in retreat. Landing punches in bunches as Kelly's backed to the ropes. Torv snaps that head back with a hard left, then digs to the lats with a right hook."
McCarthy: "Torv starting to take this fight over just as I predicted."
O'Dell: "Anna making you look good and Kelly look bad right now. Rocking Rowland with a flurry as the bell rings ending the eighth."
McCarthy: "And I've got it 78-76 now, Torv's biggest lead of the fight."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "Back to action in the ninth, and Anna again pushing forward. Lands the left, lands it again. Rowland retreating back to the ropes. Torv a left...ROWLAND A LUNGING UPPERCUT! TORV HURT AGAIN ON THAT RIGHT UPPERCUT!"
McCarthy: "Back to the wall stuff from Rowland! Down on the cards, can't get inside and brawl, and she goes for home run ball and hits it!"
O'Dell: "Anna wobbly and in full retreat! Kelly pouring forward, letting the hands go. Lathering Torv, chasing her around the ring as Anna tries to survive. Torv backed against the ropes. Guard high. Kelly banging the body, hooking the head, letting it all go to take Torv out of here, but Anna won't go!"
McCarthy: "No more questions about this girl's chin. None."
O'Dell: "But there's a huge question looming now. Can she survive this round? Rowland landing to the body again. Anna tying up. Referee going to break them. Anna back to open ocean, but Kelly chasing, using her own left to good effect. Solid right hook to the head. There's the bell! Another huge round Kelly Rowland!"
McCarthy: "Check this punch on the replay. Kelly backed against the ropes. Anna throws the left and Kelly almost JUMPS forward with this uppercut! Hail Mary stuff, but Mary was listening and Kelly's back in the fight going to the tenth!"
ROUND TEN:
O'Dell: "Fight in the balance as we go to the tenth, and Kelly coming forward again. Anna stopping her with the jab, then stepping in herself. Toe to toe, banging away. Torv rocking Kelly's head back, Rowland going body. Hammer and tongs, Mac!"
McCarthy: "Both women know how close this is. They're both going all in to win the thing!"
O'Dell: "Rowland working inside, tying up, banging the body. Anna shoves her off, lands a couple of straight lefts. Kelly fires back. Anna lets the hands go in response. Kelly digs to the midsection, ties up, lands a hard right. Torv hooking the belly in response. Rowland lands the uppercut Torv took it well that time and fires back with a solid left."
McCarthy: "She wasn't off balance that time. Able to lean away from it."
O'Dell: "Margin here is razor thin and both women know it. Big flurries at the bell! All going to come down to the decision."
McCarthy: "I gave that round to Rowland and I have it 95-95...which means..."
Tess: "I'm hearing the judges discussion, Jenny and it's going to be a draw. That means we go to the FCBA tie breaker!"
ROUND ELEVEN:
O'Dell: "Let me explain to the fans how this works since we've never had it at Asylum before. The first woman to take a two point lead wins. So, the judges will compare cards after each round and we'll all know where we stand. Kind of like 'The Gauntlet', Mac..."
Tess: "I don't think she remembers 'The Gauntlet' very well, Jenny..."
McCarthy: "You know what the difference is between you and me, Walmart?"
Tess: "I have a boyfriend and you're trolling for dates online?"
McCarthy: "YOU...I will..."
O'Dell: "And there's the bell for the eleventh. Torv looking much worse for the wear than Kelly, at least facially..."
McCarthy: "That's because Rowland's been able to pile on the punishment in the rounds when she hurt Torv. Anna was no doubt hoping to end things in the tenth. Kelly raring to go for the tie breaker."
O'Dell: "Should give Kelly an advantage as we go forward, but, right now, Anna in control again. Rowland being picked off with the jab, controlled, moved around..."
McCarthy: "Always want to get the first round in a tie breaker. Because, remember, you need to win by two POINTS, not two rounds. So, if you get knocked down, that's a two point round and if it's even, you lose."
Tess: "I think that actually made sense..."
McCarthy: "SHUT IT, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Torv working Kelly backward, scoring with the left as the round ends. No doubt who wins it."
McCarthy: "Judges hold up the sign that says it's 10-9 Anna, so if Torv wins the next round, it's over."
ROUND TWELVE:
O'Dell: "We're into the twelfth round of a great main event and Kelly again bulling forward looking to brawl with Anna."
McCarthy: "Gotta take chances now if you're Kelly. Can't lose the round, so, if you get caught, you get caught."
O'Dell: "Kelly taking hard shots as she works her way in tight, crouching in a tight guard, tying up with Torv, shoving and clinching, looking to smother. Anna trying to get some space, Kelly hooking the body, tying up around the head...both women throwing punches in tight...UPPERCUT, KELLY! Wow!"
McCarthy: "Another Hail Mary and Torv's stung again! Wobbles back toward the ropes as Rowland wings away looking for the finisher!"
O'Dell: "Anna against the ropes, guard high and tight, trying to stay on her feet!"
McCarthy: "Winning that last round was huge, because even if Kelly knocks Anna down, as long as Torv survives, she's still in the fight!"
O'Dell: "Rowland isn't thinking knock DOWN, she's thinking knock OUT, as she hammers away upstairs at Anna's gloves, trying to find the off switch, but, once again, can't do it. That's the bell and the twelfth is over!"
McCarthy: "No surprise on the judges' card. 10-9 Rowland, so we're back even."
ROUND THIRTEEN:
O'Dell: "Back in action in the thirteenth. Where this will end, no one knows. Torv landing two hard lefts, stopping Rowland in her tracks. Anna moving forward behind the jab. Maybe looking for the stopper here."
McCarthy: "Can't be any question about it now. You've got to try to finish. Fatigue going to set in more and more as you go. Keep in mind these girls trained for ten rounds, not thirteen or more."
O'Dell: "Torv pushing forward, landing, clinching to smother Kelly inside. Referee breaks. Anna back to work, jabbing Kelly almost at will now."
McCarthy: "That's the fatigue. Rowland slowing down. Not as quick as she was. Easier to find."
O'Dell: "Anna finding her. Forcing Kelly back. Sticking with that left. Landing a hard right. Rowland steps in, Anna ties up. That's the bell. Torv going to be in front again, Mac."
McCarthy: "Absolutely. And there's the card. 10-9 Torv. Must win round for Rowland. This is the fourth one she's faced, if you count the ninth and tenth, and you should, because she had to have both."
ROUND FOURTEEN:
O'Dell: "In tennis they call this 'Match Point'. Anna Torv can win the fight if she can win this round. If not? Back to even. And Torv out aggressively after Kelly. Forcing her back once again with that accurate jab. Rowland trying to close again. Looking to bang inside but Anna denying her."
McCarthy: "Torv really has the hands going right now. Has Rowland on the defensive. Picking the kid apart."
O'Dell: "Anna working with both hands now. Rowland backing into the ropes. Over half way through this round and Torv may want to start running clock...ROWLAND WITH THE LUNGING UPPERCUT AGAIN!"
McCarthy: "Unreal! I gotta take this kid with me to Vegas! This one is down to fatigue, though. With both girls getting tired, easier to land big shots like that."
O'Dell: "Torv wobbly and here comes Kelly. Feeling it now. Knows she can take the blonde out of here. Landing hard shots to the head, driving Anna backward. Torv was a minute from victory and now she's trying to survive!"
McCarthy: "Rowland throwing everything she's got. Trying to find the off switch."
O'Dell: "Not even sure Torv HAS one at this point. Rowland lands a sharp left-right as the round ends, but Anna's still on her feet. If the judges give her the round..."
McCarthy: "Kelly stole that round. I guarantee it. There's the card...and this crowd is popping! 10-9 Rowland. And we're all even after fourteen!"
ROUND FIFTEEN:
O'Dell: "You know, there's a cliche folks like us use in sporting events like this, and I'm breaking it out. It's too bad someone has to lose this fight..."
McCarthy: "But someone does. Although, the way it's going, it may be Christmas before that happens."
O'Dell: "Fifteenth underway and Rowland coming forward, looking to finish. Stopped COLD by Anna with a good left-right. Torv now forward and Kelly in reverse. Anna sticking that jab over and over now. Kelly covering up. Anna finding space for hard right hands. Hooking the belly. Rowland in full retreat."
McCarthy: "Anna needs to stay on message here. Just keep doing what she's doing."
O'Dell: "Torv with a solid left-right-left to the head. Drives Kelly back a couple of steps. The blonde lumping the brunette up now. Snapping the head back. Rowland trying to get off, but being preempted. There's the bell, and we don't need the judges for that one."
McCarthy: "There's the card and, to no one' surprise, 10-9 Torv."
ROUND SIXTEEN:
O'Dell: "Another match point for Anna Torv, Mac."
McCarthy: "But you know Kelly's going to be all in once again. No telling what's coming in these next three minutes!"
O'Dell: "Anna back to work with that left hand. Again forcing Kelly back with the jab. Rowland lunging forward, looking for the uppercut. Anna tying up, not buying. Shoves Kelly back, lands a left, and another."
McCarthy: "Rowland jumping and lunging at Anna. Knows she's got to have this round. Taking chances."
O'Dell: "Anna working with the jab, smothering Rowland's thrusts. Torv a left, another...OH! RIGHT HAND, ANNA! DOWN GOES KELLY!"
McCarthy: "Blown right to her back and you can stop counting right now. Anna caught her flush as she was jumping in. Rowland is out!"
O'Dell: "Referee's count at eight. Nine. Ten! It's over! The winner by KO 16, Anna Torv!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Crowd on it's feet after this one, Mac!"
McCarthy: "Fight of the year candidate."
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I've got our winner, Anna Torv, and, Anna, you knew this would be a tough one coming in..."
Anna(with a tired laugh): "If you're going to ask me if I thought we'd be going 16 rounds, no. I know she's talented. Very athletic. And she's got a great punch. Most lights, she takes out of there long before we get to the tie breaker. But. I'm not most girls."
