KO1 Allen!
When announced, this fight looked on paper to be Krista’s toughest since her decisive defeats at the hands of Jenny O’Dell, and many Allen fans secretly cringed at the prospect of their girl going up against the young home run hitter. But Allen has blossomed on the stable arrangement of herself, Ashley Scott, Alana De La Garza and Ali Landry--she’s benefited from the improved sparring and the confidence boot of having strong corner-support going into every fight. It was the old pre-JOD Krista Allen who prowled the ring in this one--giving Lake Bell a dose of later she won’t soon forget.
Long-time Krista watchers may have suspected something was up when Allen was able to land innocent-looking, range-finding right hands early in the round. It’s a tell-tale punch--it means Krista’s comfortable with her range, and hitting the right hand sets her hips, feet and shoulders to deliver her much more lethal left via uppercut or hook. Unfortunately for Bell, she wasn’t among the Allen fans in attendance who may have recognized this little tell, and instead of doing something to disrupt Krista’s rhythm, Lake continued to box and stalk her opponent, thinking only of her own offense. In he final minutes, Allen scraped Lake a grazing right, slid her feet back just a touch to lure Bell forward, and walked Lake into a vicious rising left hook while shifting weight to the right (back) foot. Lake was chin-checked in the midst of loading up her won right hand--she stumbled awkwardly to her left, then sprawled onto her back, numb from the waist down. Stunned, eyelashes fluttering--Lake made several jerky, lurching attempts to get off her back, but the damage had been done. With Bell Still twitching, Krista smiled wide, lifted her mitts and took s well-deserved ring strut, seemingly banishing the ghosts of last year’s defeats in the process.
