BEFORE: Nice clash in Paris tonight between two tall, seasoned flyweights. “Virginie may have more than 80 fights on her gloves –says Nicole in the prefight- but I think that her recent losses to Winona and Emily really exposed her. It’s a good time for me to come in and further expose her!”. Ledoyen clearly upset at the comment, shaking her head in denial: “It’s not like that, and Nicole knows it. Her mediocre career is going to take another bad stop now. She looked good in her last fight, but she will need to do much better to beat me tonight, and I don’t think she can!” Nicole in short dark-brown hair, black bikini, small black gloves; Ledoyen with long hair, ponytail, white bikini, small white gloves.

ROUND 1. Ledoyen out quickly, eager to erase the previous two fights from her memory. Virginie tests Nicole’s jab first, then goes with her jab finding Nicole off-guard. Hook connecting to Nicole’s chin, snapping her head back for a moment, but Nicole uses her legs to come back to safety. Effective jab and nice footwork from Nicole put Virginie on the chase for a while, but then Ledoyen plays the aggressor again. Glorious exchange of punches with a few seconds to go –close range makes the more experienced Ledoyen score repeatedly with quick combos to the body and then she hits Nicole’s cheeks again. Bell sounds with exchange still going on –the two have to be separated by the referee. Both coming back to their corner with smiles on their faces, but it’s Ledoyen’s round.

ROUND 2. Crazy action in the first round significantly slows down in the second. Girls circling, exchanging jabs , with Nicole peppering Virginie’s body in more than one occasion. Ledoyen regrouping, not leaving many clear shot to her opponent, but it’s Nicole’s round.

ROUND 3. Defaulting the second did not do any good to Virginie in the third! Nicole covering, Virginie jabbing without success. Patient work from DeBoer gets her closer to Virginie, and then the Canadian unleashes her hook to check Virginie’s chin. Virginie stepping back, dazed, with Nicole chasing her, hitting again her chin and LEDOYEN’S ROCKED! French girls trembling as she reaches for Nicole’s shoulders, trying to clinch. Nicole unimpressed by Virginie’s strategy, scoring with a few left/rights into Virginie’s abs and head before the bell. Ledoyen shocked, ears ringing, while Nicole pumps her fist in the air with joy as she goes back to her corner.

ROUND 4. Nicole in pursuit, Ledoyen trying to use her legs to put distance between the two, but it’s all Nicole’s round in the early minutes. Midway through, Ledoyen is covering, not able to use her jab to keep Nicole at distance. Proud Canadian steps in, closer, battering Ledoyen’s body but Ledoyen answers! Virginie steps back, finding a hole in Nicole’s defense and hits her with two hooks to the jaw jaw. DeBoer dazed, guard down, and Ledoyen punishes her with a right cross –AND NICOLE GOES DOWN! Slowly, Nicole sprawls face first to canvas, rolls on her back and IT’S OVER! Virginie Ledoyen stopped Nicole DeBoer, KO4.

AFTER. DeBoer helped to her corner, she’s clearly shocked by the unexpected collapse “I was beating her, controlling her, schooling her. Virginie was suffering, and she knows that!” Nicole will say at a post-fight interview “I did not see it coming in the fourth, though. I lost my focus and I paid for it. But that said, I was in control!” Ledoyen this time untouched by Nicole’s comments “It’s funny how some girls try to make up stories to explain their defeats. I left her going for a while, he was not producing any damage, but when I got her at close range –bang! (Virginie bites her lips and lifts her right fist) End of the fight, Nicole! That’s what I needed: a good comeback fight. Now it’s time for more serious challenges.”
