After suffering a heavy KO loss to Geri Halliwell at the end of November, Kear's Kats management decided to press forward with a specially arranged contest between the stable's pin-up girl, Cheryl Cole and Foxfire Atlantic guest boxer, American Demi Lovato. The verdict on Cole still remains in limbo, she's got all what it takes to become a serious force in BBU competition but her results aren't backing up the potential thus far. Whether it's the girl's pure fighting ability, mental issues or bad schedulling, Cole hasn't delivered the promise and the best she can do at this stage of her career is to end 2011 on a high by defeating a dangerous opponent.
Indeed Demi Lovato has that dangerous aura hanging around her. One has to suspect when she finally strikes it big, things will turn ugly for her victim. Lovato, a joyful teenager, never refusing to pass on a opportunity like this, has arrived in Cole's backyard in Newcastle full of confidence and with a firm plan to enhace her streak against European opposition (which consists of a KO win over Samia Ghadie Smith back in September and a UD defeat to Jeanette Biedermann in November).
Metro Radio Arena has never seen a bigger crowd then tonight, over 10,000 people cheering on the popular Geordie girl who promised them an early Christmas present with a vicious treatement of Lovato. If Cole will repeat her perfomance from the Halliwell bout where she really tested the veteran redhead to the limits, this could be a happy night in Newcastle today. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Both girls are in their corners, Cheryl Cole wearing a red bikini top, black mini-skirt and black gloves. Demi Lovato wearing her trademark US-schemed bikini top, navy blue mini-skirt and black gloves. Ref asks them to step forward and explaines the rules but both girls seem to ignore him and give each other a vicious death stare. Cole blinks first and tries to jab the American in the stomach already! Crowd goes wild for the first time as the referee shoves her away and tries to force his stance, but the Geordie just pushes him away and jumps at Lovato jabbing with great intensity. Ref should have known better this will be a vicious contest and let these two cats fight it out already! The bell finally rings long after Cole landed her first punch...
Round 1:
True to her pre-fight demeanour, Cole just rips into the teenager, jabbing at her chest and stomach and looking to back her against the ropes as early as possible. But Lovato has no intentions of backing away whatsoever. She blocks the Geordie's shots and dishes out a couple of good hooks to the ribs. Cole in a red mist mode, hardly took notice and lands a big jab to the chest as both girls crash into each other in middle of the ring. Brief struggle takes place before Lovato wraps her arms around Cheryl's neck and tries to drag her down. Cole can't shrug the teenager over and suddenly down goes Lovato! Crowd errupts in joy but the ref is right there and gives the local girl an angry rant tirade! Yes, Cole tripped Lovato over on purpose there. One more cheap shot like that and she'll get a point deduction! Cole is furious, literally shoves the guy away and sends a big flying hook to Lovato's ear! Demi's hair flew high there, but she wasn't hit as some of the crowd anticipated, she just moved away from that one so quickly it even caught Cole by surprise. Both girls circle around each other and try to land more punches, but they keep the distance for most of the remainder of the round and no one has stamped an authority on this bout so far.
Round 2:
Cole charges out from her stool again, peppering the teenager's ribs as Lovato doesn't hold back either. A good hook to the side of the head rocks the local girl and the crowd briefly calms down as Demi lands another two hooks to the head and Cheryl bends down and clinches in response. Lovato's anything but overwhelmed bu this opportunity and finally shoves the Geordie away before trying to land another jab to the chest. However Cole jumped away just in time and Lovato pays for her youth exuberrance as she loses her balance and almost falls over. She manages to sgtay upright, but her guard is all over the place and up steps Cheryl to land a a series of jabs to the stomach as Lovato moans in pain before managing to raise her gloves again. Cole pounded her several times during that brief spell and continues to dish out punishment peppering the American's ribs from both sides. Lovato bends down and tries to clinch but Cheryl is a fiery mood, just doesn't let her take a breather whatsoever. Numerous jabs take the steam out of Demi, but Cheryl just can't send her down yet, an uppercut attempt misses by a mile as Lovato weaved around it and she finally manages to clinch as the Geordie needed to catch her breath herself. More pushing and shoving occurs and when ref separates them, Lovato keeps the distance and survives until the bell as Cole looks to have taken this round on points.
Round 3:
Demi has recovered from that bad period during the second and squares up to the local favorite right after the bell, landing a good hook to the jaw. Cheryl cringes in discomfort, her guard was slow to raise and she gets nailed again in the mouth as Demi is looking equally vicious as the Geordie. A good combination to the head forces Cheryl to cover up and back away and suddenly it's the visitor taking control of the action. She lands more jabs to the body and pushes Cole against the ropes where she unloads more big punches to the midsection, Cheryl unable to escape from trouble zone, taking a lot of rough treatment as Demi looks to have developed a personal wrath towards her. The crowd gets really silent now as they watch in despair their girl getting trounced along the ropes. But Lovato lacks that core execution, most of her punches land on Cole's arms and gloves and she can't break through that guard again. Cheryl weaves on her legs, tries to jump away to safety, but she can't, Demi closes the distance and literally back her to the ropes so much, Cheryl almost falls over them. The brutal pounding takes place right until the bell and allthough Demi couldn't send her opponent down on the canvas, she really gave her a massive beating in this round and Cheryl walks back to her chair breathing heavily with her face red in all areas.
Round 4:
Seemingly out of nowhere, Lovato romped over Cole in the third and the Geordie is still affected by this onslaught in the next round. She circles around at distance and for the first time refuses to step in. Crowd's response has also calmed down a lot and Lovato thrives on her opportunity as she jumps at Cheryl and looks to land more big punches to the head and body. Cole sidesteps away, ducks low and avoids most of the American's hits before responding with some weak ones on her own. Lovato hassles her around the ropes and it's like a big cat and mouse game going on now with Demi threatening to damage the local girl beyond the limits. Cole looks hesitant, still struggling to breath and she's more then aware that Loavto isn't just a random jobber thrown at her in front of her home crowd. Demi smiles back at her with a devilish look in her eye and she finally traps her in the corner in the closing stages of the round as Cole seemed to get tired of all the mind games and tactics going on. Lovato rocks the Geordie with a massive hook to the ribs and before the aching Cole can lower her guard, she gets nailed with another piledriver to the guts. Crowd in agony now as Cheryl slides down on her knees, holding her tummy! What an upset, Cheryl Cole down on the floor in Newcastle, one gets the feeling Geri Halliwell is laughing her guts out at the moment! Ref begins the count and Cole grits her teeth and scrambles back on her feet at seven! She looks dazed and clearly hurt on the face, but she's nodding her head vigorously nonetherless. Fight resumes but with only few seconds left on the clock, she immediately jumps to the side and avoids Lovato's menacing hooks that were intended to put her away for good before the bell. Big round for the American and the crowd is dead silent at the bell.
Round 5:
Cole is hurt during the interval but glances over at the other end and gets really frustrated upon Lovato's big grin on her face. Ignoring the pain in the guts, Cheryl gives it another try and as Demi was expecting her to back away again and let the fight be finished in her favor, Cole lands a good jab to the chest before following up with a hook to the ribs. Lovato jumps to the side but believes it's only her foe's swan song tonight as she steps in and unleashes a big hook to head. Cole raises her gloves in time and blocks it off before responding with another big jab to the boobs and now Demi felt that one as she tries to catch the Geordie with a left hook to the stomach. That one goes missing badly and Cheryl nails the teenagers with a couple of big shots to the face. Crowd is on their feet again as Demi's guard is all over the place and Cheryl steps on her with more intensity. Another left hook to the cheek makes Demi bend down in pain and she gets hit with another low jab to the guts. Lovato looks to clinch, but Cole shoves her away to the ropes and charges with another hook aimed at the head. Demi bounced off the ropes and manages to jump to the side, but lost her footing in the proccess and Cheryl swarms all over her landing unanswered jabs to the head and body. Demi covers up and finally manages to clinch after the local girl run out of steam for a moment. Both girls refuse to let go of each other and even the ref struggles to separate them. There's a real bad blood coming to the fore now as Demi throws some single jabs but can't deal with Cheryl's footwork and is unable to land solid hits anymore until the bell. Cheryl Cole restores some pride in this round, but the American is still holding her own in the big picture.

Round 6:
Lovato more focused before the sixth, keen not to repeat that mistake from the previous round where she waited for Cole to fall apart all on her own. She jumps on the local favorite straight from the bell, but looks like Cheryl's in much better shape then she was during the fourth as she jumps away from the American's intensive jabbing before countering her from the flank to the ribs. Demi turns away but Cheryl lands some quick jabs to the midsection and clearly annoys the younger brunette in the proccess. Lovato shakes her head and tries to chase the older girl around the ring, but Cheryl weaves around and ignores the teasing. Demi throws some fake punches before stepping in as Cole was near the corner pole, but a couple of big jabs are blocked by the Geordie's arms and both girls crash to each other and lock into a clinch. Cole drags her rival down and turns her around, showing superior muscle strenght and suddenly Lovato gets pinned to the corner pole with Cole landing nasty jabs to her ribs. Demi moans in pain but she's unable to cover down as Cole leans on her with the head and backs further against the corner pole. Ref takes a close look, but deems Cole's actions as fair much to Demi's wrath. More jabs to the midsection make the American's knees soft as her left arm is still blocked by Cole's hip. Finally the ref breaks the stalemate, but Demi is breathing heavily and certainly took the worst out of that exchange. She circles around the ring, looking to catch her breath back, but Cole harrasses her with a determined look in her eyes and catches her in the stomach with a couple of low jabs before the bell. Lovato walks back to her stool shaking her head, that wasn't a great round for her and the momentum she built earlier looks to have evaporated.
Round 7:
Both girls breathing heavily, but still no signs of real fatigue on either side. Cheryl throws the first combination and lands one hook on Demi's mouth as the American responds with a jabbing sequence to the stomach. Cole takes them with a slight moan but immediately responds with a nasty uppercut to the boobs and Demi struggles to cover up which allows the Geordie to land a big follow-up on the American's jaw. The crowd rises up again as Demi's head snapped backwards and Cheryl pours in with yet another follow-up this time landing a big left jab to the eye! Demi cringes in pain and tries to jump away but Cole keeps her within range after a serious of jabs to the stomach. Lovato struggling for comfort, gets pummelled into the corner where Cheryl lands more vicious jabs to the stomach and boobs before another uppecut catches the aching American in the jaw. Crowd goes ballistic as Lovato hangs on despite looking soft on her knees. Cheryl briefly pauses and lands a couple of cheap rabits on Lovato's back as she leaned forward so much her head was below Cole's breasts already. Demi stumbles forwards alltogether and tries to stay upright, but to no avail as Cole nails her in the ear and down goes Lovato!!! Ref starst the count and the American is clearly shaken by the knockdown, she gets up at five and tries to turn away from the ref, but the guy drags circles around her and looks her in the eye. She's good to continue, he says and off we go again and Demi is just looking to survive now as Cheryl lands more big punches to the guts. Lovato covers up her face, but Cole works on her down low and pushes to the ropes one more time. Demi weaves and ducks away avoiding a potential haymaker from the Geordie faithful, but Cole still lands a number of vicious blows and at the bell, Lovato looks in a bad shape, her face now flashing red colors as Cheryl smiles back at the crowd for the first time since the second round!
Round 8:
The previous round seems to have really taken it's toll on Lovato and her right eye begins to swell during the interval. Cheryl stands up from her stool before the signal is given and she looks ready to complete the momentum shift. Crowd get behind her as loud as they can and Cole jumps straight up to the American brunette and lands a nasty jab to the face before following up with an equally painful to the ribs. Demi covered up the first one, but not the second and she bends down in pain as Cheryl backs her against the ropes with a jabbing sequence from the left. Cole tries to break her opponent's guard but Lovato holds up well albeit taking a heavy punishment to the midsection. Cheryl works her over with a series of jabs and hooks to the body and Demi now struggles for any response, just hoping for the Geordie to run out of steam. Cheryl gets frustarted though and despite landing many unanswered punches, she's unhappy with the fact, Lovato was down on the floor only once and still hasn't been rocked by anything close to a Daily Mail front page haymaker. She bends down on Lovato and forces the referee to separate them and as they rejoin in the middle of the ring, she throws another big hook to the head. Demi ducks away from that one and responds with a few weak jabs, as Cheryl circles around her and looks for a massive punch to finally break the American's will. Demi is happy just to see Cheryl dropping her aggression for few moments but she's unable to take advantage of it, her guts have been pounded too many times in recent rounds and she's clearly feeling the pain now. Cheryl throws some fake punches and looks ready to step in for the final kill, but Demi jumps away at the last second and avoids a big hook to the head. Cole tries to jump after her but the bell stops her in the tracks and she looks utterly disgusted with the wasted chance. Lovato looks mighty relieved she escaped an ugly ending, but her eye is still swelling badly.
Round 9:
Lovato very slow on her legs, feeling the affects of a gruesome fight and Cole wastes little time by jabbing her in the wounded eye with a well-placed shots. Demi's guard is slow to get up now and Cheryl continues to work her over with more vicious punches. The Geordie fakes a big hook to the head and Demi nearly tripped over while trying to jump away from that one but even though she almost got tangled up in the ropes, Cheryl keeps the distance and smiles back at her with a devilish look in her eye. Lovato is furious inside but her body prevents her from teaching the cocky English girl a lesson at this stage of a fight. She manages to throw one big punch at the head, but Cheryl sidesteps away from it and responds with a vicious jab to the boobs beofre another big hook to the face. Demi's guard was torn wide open and so is her mouth now. Bloos starts to pour out of the American's lips and Cheryl jumps at her looking for the finishing sequence. Demi on the verge of tears avoids a massive hook and Cheryl got so excited about her prospects of knocking the American right here and now that she crashes into the teenager who uses this brief moment to wrap her arms around her neck and clinch. Crowd gets upset at this development and so does Cheryl but Demi manages to catch her in the ribs a couple of time before leaning herself around the Geordie's neck and force teh ref to break the apart. Lovato refuses to let go though and the ref has to drag her away from the Geordie who is now on the limits of her patience as she verbally abuses the teenager. Suddenly there's a total havoc around Metro Radio Arena, Cheryl demands the fight to be stopped, ref brushes her away and Lovato escapes to the other corner unnoticed. Fight resumes but Cheryl can't reach her foe before the bell again and Demi survives into the final round despite looking dead in the water with a heavily swollen eye and a split mouth.
Round 10:
Crowd urges the local girl to push for on more time and here comes Cheryl looking to finish her aching rival for good. She throws a big combination to the head but Lovato covers up for that before another hook to the ribs really rocks her and allows the Geordie to back her against the ropes. Demi unable to respond with any punches now and Cheryl lands vicious jabs to the arms and body. But Cole is also feeling the ten rounds of boxing and there's not enough strenght and power behind those blows. Lovato bends down and looks to clinch as Cheryl can't push her away anymore and allows the American to drag her by the neck. She's frustrated that the US girl just refuses to go down but nails her with another jab underneath the elbow. Lovato winces in pain but stays upright as Cole is also very tired now and reverts to some single jabs. Ref separates them for one more time and Demi immediately backs away as Cheryl swings a flying hook, that goes wayward. Cole's tank is also empty as she's breathing heavily and throws more single punches to the midsection. Demi tries to respond with a hook to the face, but it's blocked and both girls are locked in a clinch again. Inside the final minute, Cheryl lands more punches to the guts and finally breaks the American's guard, lacing her in the mouth again. Demi barely can move at the end of the fight and Cole pushes her to the ropes again, landing a series of unanswered blows to the head and body. Lovato bends down in agony, but Cole has run out of steam alltogether and both girls clinch during the final seconds. There's the bell and while Cheryl walks back to her stool with a serious looking face, Demi collapses in the ring and remains flat out on the floor holding her stomach in clear discomfort and pain. Cheryl has her gloves removed and Lovato shows no signs of getting up. After a couple of minutes the medics arrive and assist the brave American back to her stool but she's visibly aching and complains of pain in her midsection. The swollen eye and the split lip doesn't seem to be her biggest concern anymore. The crowd awaits the decision and allthough everyone thinks the local girl has done enough to win, Cheryl herself doesn't take anything for granted. Lovato remains seated in her corner and here comes the verdict...
After ten rounds of boxing we go to the scorecards. Judges score the bout 97-92, 97-93 and 97-93 all in favour of the winner... CHERYL COLE!!!
Post-fight:
Cheryl shakes her fist in delight and the look on her face confirms how much this victory means to her confidence. People inside the arena have gone ballistic in the meantime and the Geordie girl blows several kisses to the crowd as she parades around the ring and plants hands on her hips relishing the verdict. She wants to confront Lovato in her corner, but the security shoves her away as they enable the medics to carry the stretcher onto the ring. Indeed, Demi has no intentions of leaving the scene under her own power and has to be stretched off with a suspected rib injury. A tough day for the young American who had Cheryl at her mercy in the fourth before struggling to finish her off.
There's no question Lovato can develop into a great boxer in the future but she's wasting her opportunities so far and enabling the more experienced rivals to take advantage of her reckless approach. Lovato is selling the fights well though and the Newcastle crowd applauds her efforts as she's being stretched off. Cheryl shows little sympathy towards the American after giving her a rough treatment but has generally send a message for all those who have written her off that she can still be a force to be reckoned with despite a wave of new talent coming to BBU lately.
