NOTE While Tractorpull predicts and reviews all PPV fights in all classes, we only follow the Tiffany Division, the lightweights. We only rank lightweights and only do lightweight rewards
TRACTORPULL’S LIGHTWEIGHT OSCARS AND RAZZIES OF THE YEAR
LIGHTWEIGHT KNOCKOUT OF THE YEAR--PALICKI’S FIRST ROUND KO OF DIAZ
Traditionally, Tractorpull’s knockout of the year have always been first round knockouts. I follow that tradition. Adrianne Palicki had two first round knockouts this year. She scored a one punch knockout over Shannon Elizabeth. It was her second first round knockout that got the award. It was in a title fight.
LIGHTWEIGHT FIGHT OF THE YEAR-- PEREGRYM / LARTER 11/11/12
Two top ten fighters in the brawl of the year. Both fighters were ready to go several times, Both went down during the fight that ended in a draw. The fight went to the eleventh round when Larter landed short left hook with her body behind it to stretch Peregrym out for a KO win
LIGHTWEIGHT ROOKIE OF THE YEAR--DANIELA RUAH
She actually had her first fight last year but that fight lasted only two minutes This year she lost her first fight to Erica Durance, who is a tough outing for a top ten fighter much less a rookie. She went on the win her next four fights ending with a KO of Cat Bell. Sim has hinted a stable has claimed her but not publicly announced her signing. We are considering her a lightweight although it is possible her stable might use her at welter
LIGHTWEIGHT COMEBACK OF THE YEAR--TAYLOR COLE
I am well aware that the writer for Boxing World, whom I know well, selected Jessica Biel as their comeback of the year. We respectfully disagree. While Biel was 3-3 in 2010, her record of the last two years was 11-5. Cole also had a 3-3 year in 2010, but she was 4-5 for her last three years. This year, they both won the lightweight title. Biel was 7-2 or a 77% win average. Cole was 4-1 for 80%. The kicker. Cole beat Biel
LIGHTWEIGHT UPSET OF THE YEAR--SWANEPOEL’S KO OF HELFER
Candice Swanepoel’s 6/18/11 sixth round knockout of Tricia Helfer stunned the lightweight ranks and cost Helfer a top ten ranking
LIGHTWEIGHT WITH MOST WINS--CHARLIZE THERON
Charlize continued to show she can still compete with a 9-2 record with 6 KOs. One of her losses came at the hands of the much bigger and younger welterweight and P4P champion, Amanda Righetti, but many thought Theron was impressive in the loss
LIGHTWEIGHT WITH THE BEST WIN PERCENTAGE (10 FIGHTS)-- CHARLIZE THERON
A winning percentage of 82%
LIGHTWEIGHT OF THE YEAR--JESSICA BIEL
She ended last year on a three fight knockout losing streak. This year she want 7-2 to be the current lightweight title holder, claiming victories over Vandervoort, Nichols, Helfer and Peregrym along the way. She is considered the most athletic fighter and has supporters for her claim to the P4P crown
DISAPPOINTING LIGHTWEIGHT OF THE YEAR--YVONNE STRAHOVSKI
She was 7-2 in 2010 and held the lightweight title for three months. Was heralded as the coming terror of the division. In 2011, she had only three fights and lost two of those. Can you hold a fighter responsible for not getting many fights or do you blame the manager. We say both. Lindsey Lohan, who is the same stable got twice as many fights. A close second was Katherine Heigl, long considered a top lightweight and sometime welter, had only got one fight. She could be an exception to our above statement since she has the misfortune to be in Empire, where fighters only getting one bout is normal
WORST LIGHTWEIGHT--CARRIE PREJEAN
She lost five FCBA fights plus one in the BBU. She lost all six by knockouts, four before the end of the fourth round
WORST LIGHTWEIGHT WIN PERCENTAGE--CARRIE PREJEAN
0%
LOOKING FORWARD TO 2012
There will be four different fighters wear the lightweight belts
Charlize Theron will have a terrible first quarter but a good second half to finish with a winning record. If not, she will retire at the end of the year
Jennifer Garner will not finish her farewell tour in 2012
Biel and Righetti will fight for the P4P title
There will be one Ice Hotel fight. Brook will not win it.
Alyson Michalka will make the leap to lightweight. She will regret the move
Laura Vandervoort will continue to languish at Foxfire as the stable concentrates on its more promising fighters such as Panettiere and Nichols
Front Street’s hope of winning the lightweight title will rest with Torv. One more big win should get her a title fight.
At the end of the year, there will be not much movement in the top ten lightweights. |
