BEFORE:
"I like Jamie Lynn," says a smiling Miley. "She's always been really nice to me and she and I are a lot alike. We hang out when Front Street and Lookout! get together. None of this is personal. It's just a fight we both want to win."
"Miley's great," says Jamie Lynn, smiling as well. "She's had to deal with the same stuff as me, people hating on her because of her family, thinking she's gotten everything handed to her, not giving her any credit for anything. She's had my back on stuff like that and I have hers. Tonight, we'll go out and do this, because we both need the work, and then we'll go back to supporting each other."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and here's an indication of that mutual respect Jamie Lynn and Miley were talking about That's 'Follow Me' and Jamie Lynn is coming out first, giving her friend the championship spot!"
McCarthy: "See, I'D never do that. I like some of the girls I fought, Britney, for example, but I'd never give her the honors. It's all business on fight night..."
O'Dell: "Jamie Lynn helped off with the robe by big sis, and there's the familiar pink bikini...and that's 'Best of Both Worlds' and here comes Miley! Cyrus down the aisle and into the ring, goes straight across to touch 'em up with a smiling Jamie Lynn, then back to the corner to be helped off with the robe. Nice ice blue bikini, Mac!"
McCarthy: "MUST I say this every card..."
Tess: "Yes, MUST you?"
McCarthy: "Nice, but not a Playmate-level body! Oh, and SHUT UP, Walmart!"
O'Dell: "How about a pick, Mac?"
McCarthy: "I figured Spears was a favorite, but after all this 'I love Miley' stuff, I'm not sure she is anymore. If she boxes, she can win. If not, I favor Cyrus."
O'Dell: "Girls to the center. They touch 'em up again, now back to their corners...and there's the bell for the first. Spears working forward, looking to get to the body early. Miley lands a couple of jabs to slow her down. Jamie Lynn catches a right hand on her gloves, hooks the ribs. Miley double pumps the jab and circles left. Jamie Lynn closing again, want to work inside..."
McCarthy: "This isn't what the kid ought to be doing! Cyrus loves to bang inside. Like I said, if Jamie Lynn boxes, she has the advantage!"
O'Dell: "Jamie Lynn a nice right hand, Miley fires back with a hard left-right that got Spears' attention! Jamie Lynn covers up as Miley lands to the body, hooks the ribs. Spears lands a nice right...OH! Big right hand Miley and Jamie Lynn to her knees!"
McCarthy: "No business in there slugging! None! This is what happens. She's giving away her advantage!"
O'Dell: "Spears up at seven, takes the count, Cyrus moving forward, lands a nice combination. Spears snaps out a jab, ties up as Miley moves in. There's the bell and a great first round for Cyrus!"
McCarthy: "Maybe Britney will talk some sense into this girl in the corner."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "On to the second now, and Jamie Lynn right at Miley again, bangs a hook to the ribs and another to the belly. Miley firing back a nice straight left and a hook to the body of her own. Jamie Lynn now head hunting. Lands a pair of jabs. AND THAT HURT CYRUS! Good straight right by Jamie Lynn. Spears backing Miley into the ropes. Cyrus covering up, bobbing and weaving well, taking punches on her gloves and arms, now jabbing back, working her way off the ropes."
McCarthy: "Jamie Lynn went all in there and shouldn't have. Should have worked out the round instead of trying for the stoppage."
O'Dell: "That's the kind of thing young fighters do sometimes. Cyrus banging back nicely now. Jamie Lynn thrown over to the defensive, covering up herself...NICE HOOK, MILEY! That stung Jamie Lynn. Spears now being backed into the ropes as Cyrus goes body, scoring well as the bell rings, and I think Cyrus stole it, Mac!"
McCarthy: "She did. Spears built up a nice lead early, but I think Miley got the round with the late flurry and she's built a bit of a lead on the cards."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third round now, and Jamie Lynn working forward again, landing a nice left-right. Miley banging back, backing Spears up. Jamie Lynn to the body. Miley answers upstairs. She's backing Spears up, Mac..."
McCarthy: "Because Jamie Lynn has no business standing in front of her! Spears is fighting Miley's fight!"
O'Dell: "Miley now to the body. Jamie Lynn a good straight right, but Miley answers with a left hook, got Spears moving backward again."
McCarthy: "She's not overpowering Spears as much as out landing her inside. Cyrus is getting using the shoulders, dipping and bobbing, getting good angles to hit from. Spears is finding some openings, too, but not as many."
O'Dell: "Good left-right Miley, backs Jamie Lynn up again. Cyrus hooking the body. Spears tying up, shoving Cyrus off. Lands a couple of jabs, but Miley bangs a right hook home as the round ends."
McCarthy: "Cyrus again. I've got it 30-26. Spears has got to start boxing this kid or she's going to get skunked."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Into the fourth now, and it's Miley back to pressuring again. Cyrus wants to work inside and Spears more than willing to bang in there with her. Miley banging the body, Jamie Lynn lands to the head. Cyrus leans in and ties up."
McCarthy: "Cyrus just more comfortable inside. This isn't where Jamie Lynn is at her best. I keep saying this, but Spears needs to BOX this kid! Where's the Jamie Lynn Spears who outboxed Spearritt?"
O'Dell: "Right now, slugging it out inside with Miley. Cyrus a nice straight right...SPEARS A RIGHT HOOK! CYRUS HURT! Now Jamie Lynn opening up. Backing Miley up with a flurry. More deliberate this time. Not going all in. Finding the range. Good quick left uppercut! Miley wobbled again!"
McCarthy: "Spears letting the hands go! Scoring big. Miley hanging on!"
O'Dell: "There's the bell. Cyrus a little wobbly going back to her stool and Jamie Lynn's on the board!"
McCarthy: "Still down 39-36, but she finally got a round."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth round underway and Spears is right after Cyrus, snapping the head back with that jab, nice right hook to the chin, backing Miley up now."
McCarthy: "Jamie Lynn trying to impose will here. I can respect that. Needs to work body a little more, though. All head hunting now."
O'Dell: "Spears lands a nice flurry...AND CYRUS HURT HER! Miley wobbled Jamie Lynn with a short right hand. Now Cyrus backing up Spears. Miley going body, nice uppercut to the chin. Jamie Lynn covering up as Miley drives her back into the ropes. Spears clinching. Cyrus banging free. Jamie Lynn trying to jab for space, but Miley's nose to nose and not backing up."
McCarthy: "Cyrus can smell the stoppage here, but the Spears kid won't punk!"
O'Dell: "Miley with a nice three-punch combination. Jamie Lynn clinches again. Miley an uppercut. Jamie Lynn a right hand, but Miley lands a hard left as the round ends. Good stuff from Cyrus, Mac!"
McCarthy: "Both of these girls have hurt the other several times. By standing toe to toe, Spears has made this a crap shoot. And right now, she's throwing snake eyes, because Miley's up 49-45 on my card."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Round six begins and Jamie Lynn aggressive after Cyrus, backing Miley up with a nice three-punch combination. Hooks the body now as Miley covers up..."
McCarthy: "No one's going to accuse these two kids of not putting on a show."
O'Dell: "Spears with a couple of hard rights...and now Miley fires back. Backing up Jamie Lynn with a one-two, hooks to the body with the left, lands a hard right and now Spears is covering up. Cyrus coming forward, letting the hands go. Jamie Lynn firing right back, but Miley landing more and cleaner stuff inside."
McCarthy: "I'm just AMAZED this kid keeps standing in there slugging. It's ridiculous!"
Tess: "It's bringing to mind the time YOU tried that with Neve..."
McCarthy: "That was DIFFERENT!"
Tess: "How?"
McCarthy: "It was ME. And I ALMOST had her!"
Tess: "With your quick nephrons..."
McCarthy: "Shut it, Walmart!"
O'Dell: "A video of that line DID get over a million hits on YouTube..."
McCarthy: "Et tu, Jenny?"
O'Dell: "Just kidding, Mac. You know that."
Tess: "I hear there's even a band called 'Nephrons of My Quickness' now..."
McCarthy: "Walmart, I swear..."
O'Dell: "And speaking of hits, and not the YouTube kind, Cyrus lands another flurry as the bell rings and I think she came back to take the round. What's your scorecard look like, Mac?"
McCarthy: "I think Miley got that one, meaning it's 59-54. A commanding lead for Cyrus."
Tess: "And for the folks watching at home, if you had the 'Over' on the number of times Mac would quote Shakespeare tonight, cash your tickets..."
McCarthy: "What? When did I quote Shakespeare?"
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "'One man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages...'"
Tess: "She means round seven is starting, Mac..."
McCarthy: "I know what she...WHAT?"
O'Dell: "And Spears showing some movement for the first time. Miley coming forward and Jamie Lynn circling, working the left jab, keeping Cyrus off, lands a solid right off the jab. Miley trying to work her way in tight, but Jamie Lynn's having none of it now. Sticking the jab and moving. Setting up, landing a one-two as Miley comes forward, then circling right and away."
McCarthy: "This is what the kid should have been doing all along. Cyrus can't close. Jamie Lynn's picking her apart from the outside. Using those quick hands. Dropping rights off the jab."
O'Dell: "Miley not getting frustrated. Keeps working forward. Moving the head, keeping the gloves up, but Spears landing a lot of good stuff here. Stopping Cyrus in her tracks, forcing her to cover up."
McCarthy: "Spears best round so far. Miley getting pre-empted. Can't get a thing done."
O'Dell: "One final flurry and there's the bell. Great round for Spears."
McCarthy: "She needed it. My card says 68-64. She' still needs something big."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "And Spears heard you, Mac, because she's right after Miley off the bell, landing a nice three-punch salvo to start the eighth. Cyrus bangs back to the body, lands a nice hook, backs Jamie Lynn up again. Now Spears sets Miley back a step with a straight right to the head. Miley hooks the body with the left, backs Jamie Lynn up with a right to the head."
McCarthy: "Spears has to stand in there now, I think. Not the fight she should be fighting, but it's too late for her not to go for a stoppage. She's gotten too far behind trying to slug."
O'Dell: "And Miley again getting a bit more work done inside. She's not dominant in there like Jamie Lynn was from the outside, but she's backing Spears up, landing three to Jamie Lynn's two, using the shoulders, forcing Spears out of her sets."
McCarthy: "Cyrus really impressive in tight tonight. This kid may be better than she's been given credit for. Got a lot of slick moves in there."
O'Dell: "And she's using them to score points as the eighth ends, and the two fighters touch gloves before heading back to their corners. Another one for Cyrus, Mac?"
McCarthy: "Sure was. I've got it 78-73 now. It's all over on points. Jamie Lynn needs a knockout to win."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "Two more scheduled and Jamie Lynn Spears has a major mountain to climb, and she's getting started right away. Lands a crisp flurry off the bell that stops Miley in her tracks. Cyrus covers up as Spears lets the hands go. Landed some solid shots in there, Mac!"
McCarthy: "Right, and then she circled away before Miley could counter. This is what the kid needs to do. She's a better boxer than Cyrus."
O'Dell: "Certainly looking like it right now. Miley takes another combination to the head. Covers up again. Spears using the hand speed effectively, pre-empting Miley."
McCarthy: "Cyrus doesn't need to be coming forward like this at this point, either. She has a good, solid lead. Doesn't want to be pressuring too much and make a mistake."
O'Dell: "Spears lands again! A couple of good rights banging home in that exchange. Miley tried to counter, but got nothing but gloves. That's the bell. That's the round. Good one for Spears."
McCarthy: "Too little, too late."
ROUND TEN:
O'Dell: "On to the final round and it looks like Spears will need a stoppage to win it and it appears as if she knows that! She's right after Miley, letting the hands go, clearly all in here and...CYRUS LANDS A BIG RIGHT HAND! Spears staggered, Cyrus piling on now, looking for a stoppage of her own! Battering Jamie Lynn back into the ropes with clubbing rights and lefts..."
McCarthy: "Miley needs to get control of herself here! She doesn't need to stop Spears! She has the thing won!"
O'Dell: "But that's not how these girls roll, Mac! They've been going all out all night and they aren't stopping now. Miley hammering away at Jamie Lynn, who's just doing enough to keep the referee at bay...OH! ANOTHER BIG RIGHT FOR MILEY! I've got no idea what's keeping Spears up!"
McCarthy: "Pride. Guts. The kid has both of those, no question. Not sure she has a lick of sense, though, the way she fought tonight..."
O'Dell: "Cyrus just throwing everything at Jamie Lynn now, pounding away as Spears just tries to hang on...OH! BIG LEFT-RIGHT AND DOWN GOES JAMIE LYNN. Spears drops flat to her face and Cyrus heads to a neutral corner. Jamie Lynn actually trying to get UP here. She's on all fours as the count reaches seven...eight...nine...that's it! Spears can't beat it! The winner by KO10 is Miley Cyrus!"
McCarthy: "I can't believe the kid got as far as her knees after the beating she took that round..."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Cyrus coming over as Jewel and Britney guide Jamie Lynn to her stool. Miley checking on her opponent. There's more than a little concern on her face...Jamie Lynn getting up now and we're going to see one of those hugs you love so much, Mac..."
McCarthy: "Ridiculous! You go in there and get the job done, maybe tap gloves after, but all this hugging stuff, is this the FCBA or the Philadelphia Ladies Quilting Circle?"
O'Dell: "Well, that is, again, not how these girls roll. Jamie Lynn congratulating Miley and standing right beside her, arms around each other, as Tess prepares for the interview, so let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "Jamie Lynn, you wanted to say something?"
Jamie Lynn: "Yeah. Miley's tougher and better than I thought she was. She was better than me tonight. I'll get you next time, though!"
Miley: "There were a couple of times I thought you were going to get me TONIGHT!"
Tess: "Miley, big win for you as an underdog tonight. Tough loss for Jamie Lynn, though. Does that take something away from the win for you?"
Miley: "Yeah, it does. But not TOO much!"
Tess: "I see that brought a smile to Jamie Lynn's face, but, seriously..."
Miley: "Yeah, seriously, it kind of takes the luster off of it. I like Jamie Lynn a lot and I always pull for her. I didn't enjoy hitting her. I had a REAL good time hitting Lohan, though...and I'm going to enjoy hitting a lot MORE flyweights this year. It's about time Lookout! gave Miley a push, don't you think? And if any of the other flys in the stable don't think I deserve one, well, you know where to find me. But you won't like what you find." |
