(TEAM CANADA VS DOUBLE A BOXING)

Before: “Shea Mitchell sent me over a report on Erica,” Sacha Parkinson tells the BBU Live! Show. “she looks kinda tough for an older woman--I mean she’s like 32! Besides I’m 5-7 to her 5-5. But mainly I am going to be too young and fresh for the old gal to deal with. I just wear her down and then finish her off.
On the same program Erica just forces a smile: “Sacha is still young. She doesn’t yet appreciate what experience can do to improve a fighter’s skills. I don’t doubt she’ll try to wear me down, but I will simply punch her so much she’ll be the one worn down.”
On fight night, Erica in dark blue bikini and pale blue gloves. Sacha in pale blue bikini and dark blue gloves. Sacha looks excited and ready to go. Erica cool and professional.
Round 1:
Sacha moves forward at the bell, bouncing on her toes, flicking out her rangy left jabs with a confident smile. Erica looks serious, almost grim as she studies the taller blonde and maintains a good defense against Parkinson’s jabs. Then Erica steps up and starts exchanging blows with Sacha, who falls quite easily into the veteran’s trap. Erica lands a solid left hook to the blonde’s temple and Sacha crashes to her knees, a stunned look on her face. Erica struts around as Parkinson groggily gets to her feet and when the fight resumes she doesn’t press the blonde, allowing Sacha to make it the bell. Still, Double A (and perhaps Sacha herself) are stunned at the early takedown.
Round 2:
Sacha shows good stuff as she comes back out and starts boxing with Erica. Sacha moves her head to make it harder target for Cerra’s shots and she starts to work counter the brunette’s punches with good effect. Erica tagged several times to the jaw and side of the head with crisp shots. Doesn’t so much hurt the brunette as teach her a lesson in respect for the younger lesson.
Round 3:
Sacha moving well again as the round commences. She is still landing crisper punches than Erica, but as the round moves forward, the brunette veteran makes adjustments. Erica works inside Sacha’s reach again and again, landing hard shots to the blonde’s body. Sacha can’t seem to counter this and the punishment to her ribs, midsection and then breasts adds up rapidly as the round ends.
Round 4:
Erica moves confidently off her stool, but Sacha has regained her bounce and carries the fight back to the brunette. Erica’s head whipped around as Sacha left hooks and right crosses smack hard into it. Erica responds with haymakers designed to bludgeon the blonde to her knees, but the agile blonde able to duck or at least block these knockout punches and counters with a flurry of punches to the Cerra belly. Cerra grunting in discomfort, forced to retreat, but Sacha stepping with her, piles up more points to the bell and again teaches the veteran a lesson.
Round 5:
Erica not convinced Sacha’s for real. She immediately goes after the young blonde and scores some good punches to Sacha’s body. Just as it looks like Parkinson’s in trouble, she unleashes three solid left jabs to the head. Erica reels back, her guard falling and Sacha follows up with a neat combination that drops the brunette to her butt. Erica looking dizzy as she gets up but won’t quit. Sacha swarms in and Erica is forced to the ropes where she goes face-in-gloves while Sacha rains punches into her. All Sacha to the bell. Erica rubbery-legged getting back to her stool. Sacha smiling happily.
Round 6:
Sacha continues to be in control, just landing at will as she dances around the lumbering Erica Cerra. Veteran looks like she’s run out of gas--and ideas for countering the younger woman. Erica tries to just stay covered up, but Sacha gets in close and keeps pumping uppercuts trying to get around Cerra’s protective mitts. Not clear until the bell ring how much damage blonde’s efforts have done. Then Erica’s head comes up out of her gloves. She’s bleeding from the nose, her cheekbones are red and swollen. There is a jaw is lumping up with painful-looking swellings.
Round 7:
Uh-oh. Instead of coming out with bounce to finish off Erica, Sacha now is moving slowly and her punches seem to lack the power of her earlier ones. The rapid pace of the first 6 rounds seems to have caught up with the youngster. However the battered Erica seems to be in no condition to take advantage of her opponent’s weakness. Instead, Sacha is allowed to set a slower pace and remain the boss. However, late in the round, Erica finally able to show some signs of life: she lands a suddenly right uppercut to lift the blonde’s chin with crunching power. Sacha forced to cover up as the suddenly hopeful Erica goes after the blonde, working Parkinson flanks to the bell. Sacha looks relieved to return to her corner, She is dripping sweat and there is a weary slump to her body. Erica worn too, but she is moving back with renewed vigor.
Round 8:
Erica back to hammering at Sacha’s defense and now the blonde’s protective shield is faltering. Sacha can’t seem to keep up as the brunette works her body and then her head. Sacha’s gloves increasingly a little too late in covering the vulnerable areas. Erica is relentless in her attacks. Kid’s starting to look frail under the veteran’s offensive but she somehow stays on her feet despite the shelling.
Round 9:
Erica wastes no time. As soon as the bell rings, she scoots across the canvas and starts working young blonde body. Wide, ripping shots smack into damp Parkinson flesh with SMACKS they hear up in the cheap seats. Sacha cringing, hunching over to protect her agonized flanks, but this opens her up to Cerra left hook to the chin. Sacha just CRASHES over onto her back and bounces with the impact. Most expect the kid is finished, but NO!--the blonde shows her courage by getting to her knees and then forcing herself to stand. Referee looks doubtful but Sacha pleads her case to continue and the official finally lets her have her way. Erica patiently waiting her chance, wades back in and though she can’t land another knockdown punch, she does leave the kid’s face badly swollen to the right cheek and jaw line.
Round 10:
Long fight is catching up with both fighters as they both come out looking tired, but Erica had conserved enough energy to continue her domination of the younger girl. Plus she seems to want the fight just a bit more. Erica scores with a right to the ribs that has Sacha hurt and sobbing, though she won’t quit--stabbing back with not-too-effective jabs to at least keep Cerra wary. Still Erica knows how to keep the blonde under her control, pushing her around, trying to get the finishing shots in, but now her own exhausted body won’t cooperate. Erica’s punches lack enough power to get the knockout she wants and Sacha able to hang in to ropes.
Fight goes to the cards: 1-0 for Erica Cerra with other judges calling fight even.
After: Bitter disappointment for Sacha Parkinson though she gave the tough veteran a very close call. (“I hope we’ll have a rematch soon. I just now I can beat her!“ Sacha insists in later interviews). Erica seems content to take her first win in the BBU: “I got the win,” she says simply,. “that’s all that matters tonight.”)
