ACB DEBUT PPV
(BronzedOz Boxing vs Downunder Boxing)
Posted by Green & Gold Magazine on 1/5/2012, 12:13 am
Sarah: So before this one gets underway, I just want to make it clear that I am not allowed to get in the ring with anyone. It is in my contract with Green & Gold. This is simply because everyone in the ACB knows how good I am and Green & Gold don’t want to lose another reporter to the ACB, especially one as accomplished as me.
This should be a cracker. Some people say the Phoebe is just a younger version of Holly. They have an uncanny likeliness. Holly is second on the all-time greatest AWUBA Super Feather rankings. Phoebe an up and comer with 8 titles to her name. There’s a bit of Scerbo/Portman to the argument here, Valance is certainly not at her best right now and Tonkin has her best ahead of her.
Firstly Holly, last few scalps include Tabrett who we just saw and Erin McNaught who is up next. How do you rate Phoebe compared to them?
Holly: Well up until a few minutes ago I thought I still had a long way to go to work my way back to the top of this division but I beat Tab by TKO7 last month, and she just beat Forscutt who is maybe BBU title material. So I would say I am in a pretty good spot right now. As for Phoebe, I’ve never fought her before, but I her she is a newer model of me so if she fights like me, it will be interesting.
Sarah: Phoebe, at 22, you are the second youngest contracted ACB fighter behind Scherri-Lee. Do you take anything from her performance tonight?
Phoebe: Absolutely. That was a great effort from her to go 10 rounds with a great like NatBass. The difference between her and I is that I have fought in AWUBA, and won 8 titles, so I have a bit more in-ring experience so I am ready for this challenge tonight.
Sarah: Well said, ok Kylz, Hinzy, here we go again.
Round 1
Both girls in black, making this very hard to call, Tonkin timid, slowly out, watchful but backing away from her older doppelganger. Valance looking classy, jabbing at the young girls face but she’s leaning away. Valance patient, waiting for the right time to punch. Tonkin from the outside, jabs the face, dances to the left and sends a rights cross towards Holly’s chin, Valance stunned, Tonkin diving in smacking jabs at her six pack, Valance shuffling backward, Tonkin SLINGS THE RIGHT HOOK and catches her on the nose, Valance hurt, stumbles backwards, shimmying right, away from her corner, Tonkin tracking her to the ropes, Valance continues along the side, glove to nose, shaking her head, popping the jab at her tormentor. Tonkin takes two on the chin, keeps advancing but more cautiously. Valance putting two more on the chin, brilliant, stops the young girl’s motion and then lands a BEAUTIFUL LEFT HOOK on her chin and that puts Tonkin on notice at bell.
Kylie: Gee, that’s the first experienced fighter that I have seen tonight, who has been lightly punched and stunned. There was nothing behind that right cross but Valance looked like she had been whacked.
Kristy: It was probably more shock that a 22 year old had landed one so early. I can understand her retreating after that hook, that was lightning quick. She finished the round well Kylz and probably takes that round.
Round 2:
Tonkin gets back into it, lightening quick, putting the jab out there, Valance with her guard up, leaning away from the speedy jabs but taking a lot more than are missing. Trying to evade these blistering right hands to her face and she’s taking a barrage of hooks to her belly. Valance stepping back and as Tonkin tracks her and walks into a tidy right hook, more glove than chin but as she resets she takes a right hook, again more glove than cheek. She’s backing away now, the power is too much for her as Valance’s picks up where she left off in the first and starts banging that jab at her face. Pop pop, Tonkin backing up, all around the ring, Valance predictable but she just can’t slip the jab as it’s on the money time after time. She is returning fire though and she is scoring as well. Close round. And there’s the bell.
Kylie: Such a tight round. Tonkin maybe just as she probably scored well in the first minute of that round.
Kristy: It’s hard to pick these two apart and that will make the judging interesting. Blink for a second and you forget who’s who.
Kylie: Too right Hinzy, in those black sports bras and hot pants and with their hair tied back in ponytails, it is really hard to pick them apart.
Round 3
Valance remains the aggressor. This approach is working well, her jab is finding the mark, busting through the guard, but Tonkin is slipping the follow up hooks and getting in and under for the odd gut punch. One such gut punch takes the wind right out of the sail and Valance stops. Tonkin crouching and driving off the front foot into a MENACING RIGHT UPPERCUT that gets all of Valance’s face and the D.O.A star is almost blasted of her feet, blood spurts from the nose as she backpedals to the ropes arms crossed at her forehead palms out, Tonkin grinning, pumping her fists into open torso, Valance groaning with each blow, brings the crossed guard down over Tonkin’s glove pushing down and falling against her, grabbing at her waist. She’s wide eye, double trickle of blood from the nose. Ref forces her off as she steps to the left and Tonkin comes on but she fires a straight jab at the youngster that lands on the mouth and for the time being has Tonkin backing away at the bell.
Kylie: There’s that soft punching stopping her again. One punch to the stomach and she is on her heels. Then she takes a power punch and stays on her feet. It’s amazing.
Kristy: Look there is probably a lot more power in those punches than what you think Kylz. Care to step in there and find out?
Kylie: No I am quite comfortable right here thank you very much.
Round 4
Valance showing spirit, all banged up but staying in the fight, jabbing away again at Tonkin’s guard, keeping the youngster at bay. Not throwing a lot of punches but she’s out of harm’s way, stepping to and jabbing. Mid-way through she catches Tonkin a lot more with the jab and starts landing the one two. This has been lacking. Tonkin not slipping the punches before and she is a little red faced. Best round from Valance so far. Continues to pop the jab, one, two, one two, Tonkin eating leather. But she is protecting herself well late in the round and she is getting underneath now for the odd body shot. The bell ends a good round for Valance.
Kristy: Look not a damaging round from Holly but she takes a round back and surprisingly, that would even the fight up.
Kylie: Tonkin probably landing more power punches and scoring easier but controlling the round like that is one way to win a fight.
Round 5
Valance still the aggressor but Tonkin is fighting well on the back foot. Not letting anything get through the guard this time. Valance just popping that jab at the openings, one gets through, Tonkin slips the next, backing away, using all of the ring. Valance jabs, misses and the follow up jab wizzes past the ear as Tonkin bends the knees and twists in a CRUNCHING RIGHT HOOK to the ribs, CRACK! As it smacks into Valance’s side, she groans on impact, she’s hurt! Left arm locked in at her rib cage, right like a windscreen wiper at her face. Tonkin punishing the right side with clubbing right hooks, Valance soaking up the punishment, right knee is gone, sinking, Tonkin BLASTING THE RIGHT HOOK into her ribs with another crack, Valance drops her right arm heaving, SHE’S IN TROUBLE. Tonkin left, right, left jab to the chin, Valance head knocked back 3 times, RIGHT UPPERCUT TONKIN! DOWN GOES HOLLY VALANCE! Flat on her back in the corner. The ref begins the count 1, 2, 3, Holly isn’t moving and it’s over! KO5 Phoebe Tonkin!
Kristy: How about that! The 22 year old Tonkin just shredding Holly Valance to pieces. Holly still out in the corner. That combination at the end was like a movie scene, just popping the head back with the jab before finishing with the uppercut. Brilliant.
Kylie: Holly still hasn’t moved in the corner. I want to hear want Phoebe has to say about this.
Sarah: Yeah I am here with the winner, in destructive fashion, Phoebe Tonkin. Gotta be happy with that Pheebs.
Phoebe: I’m stoked with that. Far out, I still can’t believe I knocked out Holly Valance! Yeah, it’s pretty special.
Sarah: Holly looks like she is finally coming around over there. Take us through that last round.
Phoebe: Yeah hope she is ok. Oh there’s not much to say really, I just timed that hook to the body perfectly and I think it broke a rib or something by the look on her face, and then so did the other hook. So I pretty much had a punching bag of a face to hit and I thought “hmm…. 3 jabs and an uppercut would like good on the playback reel”!
Sarah: Hahaha, well it certainly will. Phoebe Tonkin stating that she had time to frame that knockdown, amazing.
