Sarah: Oh there is history here. The Greatest AWUBA boxer ever, having won 87 titles, 1 more title than Elle MacPherson before the AWUBA’s demise, is…..Jennifer Hawkins. But, she has never beaten Erin. She’s the greatest super lightweight Austraila has ever seen and can almost claim the same for the light weight division, but on 6 occasions, 3 of them title fights, she has not beaten Erin McNaught.
Erin, that statistic must be something you think about quite often.
Sarah: Not before a fight with her but I always celebrate it after. I’m an honest person and when I get in the ring with someone like Jennifer Hawkins, I shit my pants. But I have beaten her every time, 3 by knock out in title fights and that is something I will always hang onto. She might be the greatest of all time, but she can be beaten.
Sarah: Jennifer, we speak about you and Elle and who is the better fighter, what’s your point of view?
Jennifer: Elle won fights across 3 divisions which is something I couldn’t achieve. If her super feather weight ranking had of been higher, there would be no argument. I am just privileged that we can both be spoken about this way.
Sarah: And tonight’s fight, you’ve never beaten Erin.
Jennifer: I know. Thanks for the reminder. She is the only girl I haven’t beaten. Elle has a few more girls that she hasn’t beaten. Maybe this is how I can end the argument.
Sarah: Well good luck tonight, over to you girls.
Round 1
Hawkins straight into right and left jabs flush on McNaught's chin, McNaught stomping backwards. Hawkins stepping to her left, eyes fixed on her pray, steps in and DRIVES A RIGHT UPPERCUT straight through Erin’s gloves and DOWN GOES MCNAUGHT! Quickest knockdown of the night, McNaught sitting on the canvas absolutely stunned. Gets up but is a bit wobbly at 7. Ref calls them in. Hawkins very compact, determined. McNaught has her guard high, poking the jab at Hawkins who is switching left and right at the hip, McNaught poking again but Hawkins leans back and then follows through with a right cross flush to her chin. McNaught stomping back to the ropes, she’s trying to shake it off, Hawkins pounces, blasting hooks into her ribs, RIPPING HOOK to the gut has McNaught buckled over, RIGHT HOOK to the temple smacks McNaught to the right falling against the ropes, Hawkins just banging right hooks into that exposed rib cage. McNaught sliding along the ropes as Hawkins steps back and lands a CRUCHING LEFT HOOK to the cheek right on the bell and McNaught slides down the ropes and sits on the canvas, legs out in front of her.
Kylie: Holy crap! She means business tonight doesn’t she Hinzy.
Kristy: Enough said Kylz. Erin is a sitting duck at the moment.
Kylie: It wouldn’t matter who was in there with her though, even Elle. She is read hot.
Round 2
WOW! McNaught leaps out of the jaws of defeat, into the fight now, both girls toe to toe mid ring, great footwork from both, bouncing in and out; powerful right hand from McNaught, catches Hawkins on the chin, left hook from Hawkins takes McNaught on the nose. Both girls, eyes wide, McNaught a little battered and red, attacking, backing off, great action with lots of scoring shots. Mid-way through, Hawkins jabs the McNaught stomach, then CRASHES A RIGHT HOOK to her cheek, McNaught looking wobbly! Hawkins in there swinging, punishing that rib cage again. McNaught coming apart, mouth agape, breathing heavy. Hawkins attacking the tummy. OH HARD SHOT TO THE FACE, McNaught riding the bike backwards, Hawkins skipping in. McNaught guard like a helmet, Hawkins just jamming the uppercut between her gloves. McNaught backing into the corner, sitting against the ropes, RIGHT HOOK HAWKINS collects the jaw, rips the guard down, McNaught out on her feet! LEFT HOOK, RIGHT HOOK to the jaw and DOWN GOES MCNAUGHT! Sinking to her knees and bundling forward flat on her face, it’s over! KO2 in brutal fashion Jennifer Hawkins!
Kylie: Far out, I’m glad of two things, one, that I am not a lightweight and 2, that I am not a lightweight. I never, ever, want to get in the ring, with that.
Kristy: If there is ever a way to beat someone you have really struggled to beat, that is it. That is just a demolition job of a really good fighter. The record of the two has gone out the door, although, to be fair, it was Hawkins night tonight and perhaps on the next occasion the fight may be differently.
Kylie: The reality is, Hawkins has now beaten everyone there is to beat in the AWUBA and ACB. That is an amazing effort in itself.
Sarah: Well I am here again with the undisputed queen of Australian Boxing, Jennifer Hawkins, Jen that was clinical.
Jennifer: I couldn’t have asked for it to go any better really. Commiserations to Erin….
Sarah: Who is on her feet now which is good.
Jennifer: That’s good, not nice seeing girls fall like that. It was my night tonight and although that’s a good win I’ve got to get 5 back on her before I can rest on my laurels. Thanks
Sarah: Erin did you want to say anything?
Erin: Unstoppable. Just amazing boxing.
Sarah: So 4 fights down and two to go until the big one between Abbie Cornish and Rachael Finch, but next up, it’s Tania Zaetta vs Poppy Montgomery.
