BBU INTERNATIONAL BOUT

BEFORE. Oh no, bad news for the American-based boxing magazine Tractorpull: Two more European girls make their debut in the BBU league! Laury Thilleman tries to follow the footsteps of Malika Menard -Miss France 2011 eager to have the same success of Miss France 2010 and to add another competitive French fighter to BBU roosters. Helena Mattsson had more exposure in the US, starring in a few TV shows and some movies, including Iron Man 2. "I have seen how my good friend Malika managed to get great results in boxing and so I said -why not? It's going to be fun! Malika told me a couple of things, and I'm ready to fight at high levels. And it's about time that beauty pageants start to get some exposure and acknowledgement -it's a tough job and we are tough!" Laury tells in her prefight interview. "I think it's about time that Scandinavian girls get more exposure -we have seen Italian, French, German and of course British, but how about Swedish? I'm going to fill in here -but I'm no pushover. Laury will learn soon!" Laury taller (5'9 vs 5'7), athletic and fit, and more muscular than a typical beauty pageant; Helena shorter but more muscular than she used to be a couple of year ago -fair skinned beauty looks competitive for the French girl but still, she's seven years older. ROUND 1. Taller girl leaves the initiative to the Swedish beauty in the first minute, with Helena happy to dance around and to dictate the pace. Right jab from Laury keeps Helena at distance, but then she misses and Helena catches her off-guard with a right hook. Laury dazed, tries to step forward but she misses again, and it's Helena that pours in with a right/left combo to the ears AND LAURY IS DOWN! French girl's legs bend and then she's on her knees, breathing hard. Laury beats the count easily, but can't get the round back on track -she's clearly behind after the first.

ROUND 2. Laury bounces back well from the knockdown, but Helena is too mobile, too quick for her. Mattsson able to score on the body in several occasions, leaving a stupefied look on Laury's face. French girl too still, throwing punches at Helena but with not a lot of power and -especially- not a lot of precision. Helena able to find Laury's face every time she gets closer -French girl needs to take countermeasures as instructed by her trainer.

ROUND 3. Thilleman uses her jab now, gets some work with her feet, but she's not connecting to Helena's body. Mattsson again able to cut like a blade into Lury's poor defense, finding her pretty face with a right cross, then forcing her to retreat with a couple of left hooks. Laury trapped in her corner, clinches easily to get out of troubles but it's Helena that puts her with the back on the ropes again. Bell comes to save her, but French beauty looks shopworn after the third -trainer begs her to focus on her jab and keep Helena distant to avoid further punishment in the following rounds.

ROUND 4. Trainer scolded her, but Laury is unable to perform what told, also because Helena is out for blood in the early minute. Mattsson not scared by Laury height, she gets close to her, punches her belly to force a retreat, and when the French girl is on the ropes again she starts to unleash the right. Laury bending forward, glove on her chest and HELENA HITS HER HEAD REPEATEDLY. Laury sobs, crumbling on her knees again, one hand on the ropes to avoid a total collapse. Mattsson jumps around her as the ref check the poor French girl -things are not looking shiny for her. Laury finally scoring after the second knockdown with punches thrown out of desperation, keeps Helena distant but it's not enough to make the round even. "You can't win with what you have done -you have to get to her face, girl!" a worried trainer would tell Laury during the break. In the opposite corner, everything is fine for Mattsson -the Swedish girl looks in total control after the fourth.

ROUND 5. Thilleman out for blood, but Helena is not cooperating. Mattsson's blows to the body start to wear down Laury significantly, with the French beauty again trapped at the ropes. Ugly round for Laury -she resorts to non-stop clinching as her only strategy. Mattsson outclasses her, outpowers her all the round-long. Laury looks discouraged as she sits on her stool -Menard's performances are far away from what we have seen tonight from her successor.

ROUND 6. Thilleman out quickly -she at least wants to give some troubles to Helena in the final rounds. Taller girl swings her arms with more power, but precision is still lacking. Mattsson hit hard a couple of times, but as Laury connects with the right hook she also exposes her to Helena's counterattack. Helena going to the chin with the right uppercut, then following with a left/right combo and another right uppercut AND LAURY IS ON HER FEET AGAIN! Poor Laury on all fours, breathing hard, shaking her head as she tries to get up once more. Mattsson takes some time off now and cashes the third knockdown in -she knows Laury needs a miracle to come back and get a victory here.

ROUND 7. Girls jabbing for a while, but it's clear that Laury is spent. Laury almost walks now, and finds herself at the ropes again. French girl puts her best effort -she's not bowing down, but she's not competitive tomight. Mattsson simply waiting, letting Laury try a couple of hooks that find only air and THEN HELENA GOES FOR THE RIGHT UPPERCUT! Laury hit on the chin, hard -harder than she can bear! Laury flying backwards, back that hits the ropes and then falls down on the mat, Laury sobbing, whining in French and she doesn't even try to get up -Helena Mattsson stopped the French beauty with a round 7 KO!

AFTER. Helena checks Laury's status for a while, then she can finally celebrate her victory. Big win for the Swedish beauty -she completely shut off a possible dangerous opponent tonight. "This is what they don't understand -we are very meticulous, hard workers" she would say, full of national pride "Laury is not a bad fighter -I believe she will do decently in her future career- but she simply doesn't have what I have. I feel ready for the big names here, but I would like to make small steps -a few tests like this one tests will be better for me now!" No doubts Helena won the fight big time tonight, while Laury looked a pale shadow of Menard. French girl not even able to make it to the post-fight conference -her pride hurt too much by the one-sided domination she suffered tonight.
