BEFORE: Patton gearing up to succeed where Torv and other Roboteers failed...she's got Jen G firmly in her sights. "This is the fight that will make me," Paula predicts in prefight. "She's vulnerable - obviously not the woman she once was, but this is STILL Jennifer Garner we're talking about - still a hall of famer - still a woman with spirit that needs to be broken. I'm just so glad that I'm getting a shot before she's retired...and I'm the one who hammers her into retirement? Goosepimples!" Jenny G non-plussed: she's a woman on a mission after shocking setback to Charisma Carpenter. "Look, losing to Charisma doesn't mean you're shot," Jen reminds the press, "You catch Carpenter on the wrong day, and she'll beat you, simple as that. If Paula's hoping to clean up on the hollow remains of a once-great fighter, she's got another thing coming...and that other thing is a beating!" Powder-blue bikini with ring connections for Paula; white gloves; long glossy black hair straight/tucked behind ears. Jen G in red/black plaid, bra-style bikini; long locks tied off her brow; black gloves.

During R1: Paula HURTLING across the ring, winging haymakers: Jen eyes-narrowed, jabbing over Paula's right shoulder to block, then leaning in with stubby rights to Patton's chin. Paula's legs absorb shock: she stands her ground, smokes Jen righty thick to ribs; left hook to right shoulder...Jen with dukes at temples dips forward, jerks the right uppercut receipt to chin - dips-and-jerks left uppercut while maintaining high/tight guard. Patton back to the body thick and thumping: Jen stepping out, laying down smokescreen of jabs as she rotates counterclockwise, then steps back in via short right to Paula's chin. Vicious back and forth like this - Patton absolutely fear-free, belting Jen her hardest shots (blocked up top, but scoring heavily to ribs/tummy). Down the stretch - Jen jabs over Paula's right shoulder, blocking Patton's right; Jen leans in close, jamming righty to jaw...PATTON'S KNEES GIVE A SHIMMY! Paula suddenly glassy-eyed, stumbling back on her heels: Jen steps-to off Paula's left flank, batting straight-arm hook bingo-onna-chin! Patton knocked into ropes hazy and hurt: Jen steps-with from same angle, hooks chin and DOWN GOES PAULA! Patton imploding to canvas, rolling to her back with feet pointing to apron. Patton SOMEHOW rallies off her back at 9.9...ref figures she's good to continue: hardhearted Jen G wades in cleans up good and thick on swaying, helpless Paula P. Bell: Patton's eyes vacant, curvy legs holding her up...Jennifer gives newcomer a murderous veteran glare as Paula's out on her feet.

R2: Paula still not good...shabby to midring - chin tucked, dukes up. Jen jabbing for initiative, then sliding inside: girls fight forehead to forehead in a phone booth. Jen inside: hands at cheeks, pushing and rubbing with her head, then jerking short uppercuts from either hand, or whacking body shots to ribs. Paula inside: right at cheek/left across her gut - groggily munching punches, but grindin' and sluggin' in turn. Paula with a muscular, clouting delivery on her punches - seemingly just twitching her shoulder and generating cuffing wallop. Toe to toe, bell to bell...both ladies sponge up ruinous damage in a bruising second.

Jen's corner during the break...Jen's trainer fixing her with an intense look and saying: "Jennifer, are you SURE?"

Jen: (swallowing water) "She's hurt: I've gotta stay on her."

Trainer: "Alright."

R3,4,5: Jen jabs her way inside, sets up grinding brawl inside a phone-booth: classic strong-legged women simply pitting wills against one another. Paula still looking ragged and shabby from the near KO, but hitting Jen so hard that Garner can't impose will. Jen cuffed a hook in the 4th hard enough to stagger her: Jen clinching when smote, tying up where Patton's more likely to just cover up and ride out the hurt. Jen punishing Paula to midsection and ribs, visibly looking to tax those legs: Patton hacking back single shot rights or lefts, bludgeoning Jen head and body.

R7: Garner busting up, Paula busting up...Jen spenda minute rotating clockwise around a telephone-pole jab, just making sure she's in charge before edging back inside. After that, it's too close to call - Patton so strong, sturdy in close, answering every punch with thumping vigor in receipt. Still: first minute gives it to Jen and that punishing poke.

R8: Jen slowing pace - stepping clockwise around that heavy left jab, just pounding Paula's punished face back. Patton turning, keeping hands up, but a little too wide apart: Garner just key-holing her jab, slamming away for points. Jen able to step in at will - work inside - disengage while issuing check-jabs: Garner with initiative, even as Patton still seems strong when girls get shoulder to shoulder.

R9: Jen slamming away jabs, circling to her left...Patton groggy from poke, listless, reacting late. Minute mark, Garner edges inside, works the gut right/left; grinds her head on Paula's cheek; fits jerky little left uppercut to Patton's chin. Paula backing up - Jen cuffing and clouting short shots as she's stepping-with: women hit ropes, Jen on top. Patton forms groggy earmuff: Jen splits the guard via short right uppercut to chin; chop-hooks the gut; jerky left uppercut to chin; jerky right uppercut to chin; swatting right to waist. Paula slumping, curvy legs STILL holding her up...she's a staring, battered beauty, starting to sway on hips as her hands droop limp to chest. Jen keeping elbows in, hands up, just hacking and chopping her shots - legs/buns/back propelling murderous Evander Holyfield style hacks in close...PATTON'S GOING OUT! Jen just bashing away at the dregs, trying to make those muscular legs quit when THE REF STEPS IN! TKO9 Jennifer Garner.

AFter: Garner bellowing in triumph, seething for a moment, but when adrenaline rush clears, she's classy enough to hug battered Paula and whisper some heartfelt congratulations for Patton's amazing show of heart. "You know, we knew she could be wild early, and so I wanted to stay disciplined to catch her," Busted-up Jenny G says in postfight. "That worked: I caught that woman with my Sunday best...and she fought it off. I cannot BELIEVE it took 9 rounds of grinding to stop her - Paula was out in the first - caught and dropped...but she just wouldn't quit. Anna Torv never would have gotten off the deck, much less survived my follow up; Elizabeth Mitchell couldn't have survived; Evangeline Lilly couldn't have made it...my hat's off to Paula Patton and I told her so. I hope this answers everyone who had written me off after the Carpenter bout: put me in with the youngest, strongest beef you can find, and I'll STILL get it done!"
