BEFORE:
"Leelee's a good boxer for a big girl," says Liv with a nod of the head. "She can be a tough match up. Some of the girls good enough to box with her aren't big enough to beat her. And some of the girls big enough to beat her can't box with her. Well. I'm good enough. And I'm big enough."
"Liv is going to be a challenge," says Leelee. "She's big and strong and she's a veteran. Look past her and you'll regret it. But, if there's one thing I've learned in the FCBA, you don't look past anyone."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and, if I'm not mistaken, that's 'Walk This Way' by Aerosmith, and that can only mean Liv Tyler is on her way to the ring."
McCarthy: "Tyler has only one FCBA fight since 2004, but I've seen some tape of her fighting overseas. She's going to be the underdog tonight, but she's also going to be dangerous."
Tess: "Fans seem to agree with Mac. They're making Leelee the favorite, but not as big a favorite as Jewel or Nicole."
O'Dell: "Liv helped off with the robe, revealing a black bikini. Seems to be in good shape for this one, Mac..."
McCarthy: "Sure does..."
O'Dell: "And that's 'Uprising' by Muse and here comes 'The Polish Princess' Leelee Sobieski..."
McCarthy: "Over. Rated."
Tess: "For the fans watching at home, Mac doesn't like Leelee, because Ms. Sobieski called her out..."
McCarthy: "And notice The Weirdo hasn't sent any contracts my way. THAT'S RIGHT! DON'T YOU LOOK AT ME, SOBIESKI! YOU DON'T WANT ANY OF THIS..."
O'Dell: "Leelee doing PLENTY of looking at Mac, fans. But Jenny behaving herself like a true pro..."
McCarthy(mumbling): "Smack that ugly look off her face..."
O'Dell: "Leelee into the ring, helped off with the robe and has a black bikini of her own. Also looks to be in good shape, Mac..."
McCarthy: "Relatively, I guess..."
O'Dell: "And there's the bell for round one. Sobieski right to work with that big left jab of hers. She'll bust you up, demoralize you, and wear you out with that thing. Tyler banging right back with her OWN left. These are a couple of big, strong girls and both are getting the big guns going early."
McCarthy: "Sobieski's good at this gun platform stuff, but Tyler's giving as good as she gets right now. Both girls fitting some rights, but Liv a bit more accurate."
O'Dell: "Tyler using a bit more head and body movement and that may be the reason. Sobieski finding the range, but not as often as the brunette is."
McCarthy: "I don't understand why Tyler doesn't get more FCBA work. She's a big star and she can fight."
O'Dell: "Certainly looking like it at the moment. Good left-right there. Sobieski answers with a jab. Liv blocks the follow up. There's the bell and I think Tyler's got the early lead."
McCarthy: "Agreed, Jenny. Liv takes the first."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second round underway and Liv back to work, using that left jab to set up some right hooks now. Pressuring Leelee, getting in close, pushing, forcing Sobieski back."
McCarthy: "You know, this is turning into a rough night for The Weirdo. First Jewel gets stopped by a woman old enough to be her mother, then that overrated Scherzinger's career is pretty much ended with a loss to a girl with ZERO career wins. Her replacement's sitting right up in the box! If Sobieski loses, too, Front Street may be closed up by tomorrow..."
Tess: "You WISH, Mac."
O'Dell: "Well, Liv is certainly doing HER part in Mac's little fantasy, walking the blonde down, out scoring her. Sobieski's been giving ground the entire round...AND LIGHTS TYLER UP WITH A SHORT RIGHT! Where did THAT come from? Liv wobbled badly and and Sobieski shifts out of 'reverse' and into 'drive'! Leelee snapping out that big left, lands a hard right hook that shook Liv again. Sobieski backing Tyler up. Liv tries to answer, but Leelee lands a hard flurry, hooks to the body, then lands a hard right at the bell! I think she stole it, Mac!"
McCarthy: "I think so, too. If that right hand doesn't land, it's 20-18 Tyler. But it DID, and we're 19-19 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "On to the third and Sobieski right back to work. Using that big left hand to great effect, really finding the range with it."
McCarthy: "Tyler still doesn't have the legs all the way back, I don't think."
O'Dell: "Sobieski doubling up that left hand, forcing Liv backward. Tyler countering with the odd left of her own, but mainly being preempted. Sobieski a solid three-punch! Left jab, straight right, left hook! All landed cleanly."
McCarthy: "Tyler's got to get back in gear. Leelee's dominating her this round."
O'Dell: "That piston left is telling the tale. She's controlling the brunette with it. NASTY right hook to the side of the head off the jab at the bell. Super round for Sobieski puts her in the lead."
Tess: "Maybe Front Street will stay open after all!"
McCarthy: "One thing that SHOULDN'T stay open is your MOUTH..."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Into the fourth now, and Sobieski upping the pressure. Moving forward behind that left hand, hooking body off of it now, forcing Tyler backward, walking her down."
McCarthy: "Tyler hasn't really been able to hold canvas since Leelee landed that big right in the second."
O'Dell: "Sobieski very good at grinding an opponent down and that's definitely the plan right now. Methodical stuff. Forward behind the jab, make space to fit in the straight right."
McCarthy: "Tyler just not able to get off at all, now. Leelee dominating her, having it all her way."
O'Dell: "Sobieski with a big flurry there. Landed some good shots. Tyler clinching, trying to muscle the blonde but that's not working at this point, either. There's the bell. The fourth is in the books, Mac. What's the card look like?"
McCarthy: "39-37 Sobieski. Tyler's still in it, but she needs to renegotiate terms."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth round starts now, and Sobieski right back to work. Tyler trying to work inside now, but Leelee's not having any. Liv eating that left when she tries to close."
McCarthy: "For the fans at home, nothing can be more dangerous for a fighter trying to close distance than a hard, accurate jab. Stops you dead in your tracks, which does two things. It stops you from closing, of course, but it also leaves you vulnerable to follow up power punches."
O'Dell: "Tyler now looking to use the feet a bit more, trying to work angles instead of closing, but Sobieski's got great feet for a welterweight, able to stay in good spots and work that big, sledgehammer left. Going body off of it more this round."
Tess: "All part of the attrition effort. Sobieski fights more like Righetti than Regan. She grinds you down with accumulated power rather than takes your head off with one shot. And, before you jump in, Mac, I'm not saying Leelee's as GOOD as Righetti. I'm just saying they have similar STYLES."
McCarthy: "Huh? We're you TALKING, Walmart? I was paying attention to the fight."
O'Dell: "One big happy family around here, fans. Sobieski a left-right that landed sharply. Liv a nice right hand counter. Her best punch since the second round. Leelee responds with a hard left and a hook to the body as the bell rings. Another clear winner for Leelee, Mac?"
McCarthy: "It was, and that makes it 49-46. Sobieski's built up a nice lead at the halfway point."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Second half of the fight starts with the bell for the sixth and Sobieski with a hard flurry right away. Liv lands a couple of good shots in response, and Leelee follows with a good straight left."
McCarthy: "Tyler working to hold her ground. Going body, trying to stop the blonde's advance."
O'Dell: "Sobieski keeping the pressure on. Working the left, showing good movement. Hooking the body herself. Tyler a good straight right. Leelee counters with a nice combination that backed the brunette up a step. Liv hooks the ribs, Sobieski bangs the lats."
McCarthy: "Tyler much more effective this round."
O'Dell: "But Leelee's still controlling things. Still moving Tyler backward. Concentrating more and more on the body as the fight goes on. Liv a nice flurry. Leelee fires right back. Tyler and Sobieski both letting the hands go at the bell!"
McCarthy: "Liv's got herself in a big hole. Leelee's round and I've got it 59-55. A four-point lead with four to go."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Into the seventh now, and, if Liv's behind she's now acting like it. Aggressively at Leelee, banging forward behind heavy shot. Sobieski being forced backward for the first time since early in the fight."
McCarthy: "No doubt Liv' corner was in her ear between rounds, Jenny, because this is as aggressive as she's been all night."
O'Dell: "Leelee being backed up and forced to cover up. Tyler getting big on her, bodying up, hooking ribs, then going back upstairs with hard, accurate shots."
McCarthy: "Sobieski unable to keep her off, Jenny. Liv letting both hands go, getting the blonde on her heels. Leelee can't get off the defensive."
O'Dell: "Tyler finishes with nice flurry. Her best round of the night, Mac?"
McCarthy: "Sure was. She just grabbed control from Sobieski. Just took it. She's still down on the cards, but she's got time to pull this out."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "The eighth begins with Liv looking to pressure again...and eating a left-right from Sobieski. Liv working forward again...STOPPED...a nasty combination stops Liv cold and Leelee moving right in on the brunette, sticking the jab, backing her up, hooking the body, now to the head with a couple of jolting shots."
McCarthy: "Sobieski's dialed in..."
Tess: "It's more than that. She's not having it. Not going to allow Liv to push her around."
O'Dell: "That she is NOT. Leelee a three-punch flurry to the head that wobbled Tyler. Now it's Sobieski bodying up, going to the midsection and ribs, thumping body shots. Tyler trying to clinch, but Leelee punching free and ROCKS LIV WITH A SHORT UPPERCUT! Tyler staggers back and Sobieski's letting them go! Heartless, brutal stuff, Mac! Hammering away, bludgeoning Tyler backward into the ropes, reefing rights and lefts to the head and face, pounding a short hook into the kidney...OVERHAND RIGHT! DOWN GOES TYLER!"
McCarthy(quietly): "Wow! That was..."
Tess: "Have 'pitiless', 'ruthless', or 'merciless' come up on your calendar?"
O'Dell: "The look on Tyler's face tells it all. Shock. Utter shock. She's on her feet at eight. Referee gives the mandatory...and that's the bell. Tyler unsteady on her way back to the corner. Sobieski doesn't even spare her a glance. Doesn't sit on the stool. Gets a rinse and just stands there waiting..."
McCarthy(quietly): "Check that right hand. It's set up by this kidney shot. Sobieski slams it home. Liv's guard comes down just a bit and...BAM! There's the right and down goes Liv."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "Back to live action in the ninth and Tyler not looking good off the stool and here comes Leelee. Sobieski to work with that left hand. Snapping Liv's head back with it, forcing her backward. Tyler trying to answer but there's not much on the punches, Mac..."
McCarthy(quietly): "Kid's all done, Jenny. That last round..."
O'Dell: "Leelee lands a solid right hand. Tyler covering up in the middle of the ring. Sobieski bodying up, going downstairs, thumping away to the midsection...LEFT HOOK TO THE HEAD WOBBLES THE KNEES. Tyler backed into the ropes. Leelee splits the gloves with a left. Another. A THIRD...OVERHAND RIGHT FOLLOW! TYLER OUT ON HER FEET! STRAIGHT RIGHT SNAPS THE HEAD. BACK...IT'S OVER! REFEREE'S SEEN ENOUGH! THE WINNER BY TKO9, LEELEE SOBIESKI!"
McCarthy(quietly): "Sobieski not even a look back. Just walks over to the corner and takes a squirt of water. No emotion at all."
Tess: "I think, gang, we all just saw another side of 'The Polish Princess'."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring where Tess has our winner, Leelee Sobieski!"
Tess: "Leelee, tell me about that eighth round."
Leelee: "That was the second time tonight she tried to get big on me. I had to put a stop to it, that's all. Nothing personal. I like Liv. She's good and tough and strong. She can have a rematch anytime."
Tess: "Don't wait by the phone..." |
