BRIANA EVIGAN (GARNET GUNNERS) VS LEIGHTON MEESTER (LOOKOUT! BOXING) “Finally I am getting back in action!” Briana Evigan exults. “I’m not looking to blame anyone for why I’ve had only 1 FCBA fight in the last two years Garnet’s done the best she could and finally she got me just the right fight to re-start my FCBA`career. I have the perfect opponent in Leighton Meester--she‘s got a name, but she‘s been losing, losing and losing. . I’m going to enjoy driving her FCBA career into an even deeper hole.” Leighton Meester not pleased to be reminded she’s lost 6 fights in a row, but the proud beauty refuses to admit the Garnet Gunner’s fighter has riled her. “At least I’ve been fighting--which is more than Briana can say. I don’t deny I am going through a tough time, but I’ve been working hard to turn things around. That’s what I have been focusing on and Evigan flapping mouth means nothing to me." Briana in deep red (garnet color?) bikini with BRIANA EVIGAN in gold lettering across the butt. Small red gloves. Leighton in black bikini with gold trim. Gold gloves. Briana smiling broadly at the instructions. Leighton glowering at her. Two barely touch gloves. Both girls hair in tight battle braids. During R1: Bell rings and immediately it’s the girl in the garnet bikini who goes on the offensive. Briana noted for her strong punching and moves to give Leighton a strong dose of it. Meester taking shots to the shoulders and bodies does manage to keep her head protected and strike back with a countering jab. Still, Evigan not stopping the pressure and works to force Leighton back to the ropes, but the Lookout brunette able to dodge this fate. Still, late in the round, Briana finally loops in a nice righty that bounces off Leighton’s head , but Leighton able to get turned around and covered up, paying Evigan back with some solid late jabs. Still Briana wins a close round. R2: Leighton not intimidated by Bri’s pressure tactics. She shows she has been working on her boxing skills, moving around nicely and feinting to get the Garnet Gunner to miss. At the same time Leighton is hunching forward to work Evigan’s waistline with steady drumfire attack. Briana bouncing counters off Leighton’s shoulders and gloves. Leighton keeps working the middle and moving around until, she finally see an opening, ducks down and rises up on her toes with a left uppercut than snaps Bri’s head back and a follow up straight right smacks Evigan square on the mouth. Briana looks irked and swings wildly with a right avenging haymaker, but Leighton ducks under it and plows two rapid-fire rights into wide open Bri midsection. Briana covers up and pulls back. Leighton Meester takes a close round. R3: Briana not discouraged. She has confidence in her punching power and comes out determined to start landing better punches. Leighton confident in her boxing skills, but she gets a little too predictable in her upper body movements as the two circle each other at the mid-ring. Briana times a Meester shift to the right and Leighton moves straight into a rising right that slips in over her guard and caroms off the side of her face. Leighton’s seems a bit stunned and slow to react.. Now Briana tries to bully Leighton to the ropes, but Meester allies--gets her jab up and finally a counter left that snaps off Evigan’s temple. Briana stunned for a moment and Meester shoves in a couple of quick digging uppercuts into her rival’s belly. Leighton then pays for that with a bouncing left off her jaw. Both fighters seem dazed but neither backs off, slinging leather combatively, though without much damage. At the bell. Briana lands some very nice combinations to Meester’s tummy to get something going on the Lookout fighter’s midsection. Briana edges Leighton on a points in another close stanza. R4: The seesaw battle continues as Leighton Meester goes on the attack, still showing those nice boxing skills especially her feints which confuse or draw Briana off. However Briana’s not slowing up with the pressure and forces Leighton to be careful. Still the Lookout boxer’s work to Briana’s flanks is solid and both sides of the Garnet Gunner fighter’s body are reddening. Late flurry again decides the round and Meester forces punches up under Briana’s guard to score against her chin. Leighton snares the round but fight continues to be close on all cards. R5: Leighton again comes out the more aggressive fighter and she is starting to move with confidence around Briana to continue to evade her heaviest power shots. Briana getting hit a lot around the head now as she keeps trying to close with Meester, but she finally focuses on the Meester midsection putting in heavy punching to force Leighton to dance back. Again it’s late flurry that decides the round, Leighton able to feint right and nail Briana in the left side scoring just enough to win the first back-to-back rounds of the fight. R6: Briana doesn’t like the feeling that this fight is slowly slipping away from her, but she continues to find Leighton hard to pin down. Meester is moving well, striking with the lightning punches, though Briana’s guard is blocking most of them. As the round ticks down, Briana suddenly swings around and blocks Leighton. Leighton suddenly pounded into the belly and tips forward. Briana steps in with a sweeping right uppercut that all but stands Leighton Meester on her toe tips. Leighton staggers away hurt--first time either girl has really been hurt in this fight. Briana springs after her prey, trying to pin her on the ropes, but Leighton goes face-in-gloves and takes a flurry of shots to the body to get to the bell. R7: Briana comes out eager to continue the offensive, but Leighton ready with cautious, effective defensive moves. Every time Briana seems about to break through the Meester defensive jab, Leighton clinches and punches in close. Briana keeps trying to land those power punches and gets peppered by the Leighton Meester jab. It’s slow, but Leighton starts to be the one accumulating the most points in this round by just boxing smart. R8: Much like the previous round. Briana trying to get in, to land her heavy leather, and not being able to do it. Leighton just controlling Evigan with use of the clutch and punch whenever necessary, countering effectively as well. Briana starting to look frustrated, she just knows she could flatten Meester if she could just get to the Lookout girl’s chin, but she can’t seem to find it. R9: Briana makes an all-out effort to overwhelm Leighton and land that KO punch. Leighton gets knocked around and outworked by the Garnet Gunner, but she never loses her composure. She keeps her guard up and her counters coming. Moves well and able to absorb what Evigan punches do land. She also works to get at Briana’s belly meat to make sure Evigan’s paying for her aggression. Briana finally edges out another very close round. R10: Leighton advised she’s ahead on cards to play it safe. She takes the instructions and literally runs with them. She dances away from Briana forcing the Garnet Gunner to chase her around the ring. Briana dogged in her pursuit, but she is unable to cut off the ring and unable to land anything solid on her wily opponent. Fine, if cautious, defensive skills may not win Leighton many slugfest fans, but it’s enough to win her the fight. Cards come back UD10 Leighton Meester. After: Briana Evigan crestfallen at the loss. “If she hadn’t run, I would have had her for sure,” Bri complains bitterly to press. Leighton Meester smiling happily at the breaking of her losing streak replies: “I just know more about boxing than Bri and it showed tonight. I was the more skillful, the more intelligent and the more effective boxer. That’s why I won.” Of course, that ignores that many of those rounds were quite close and the fight could easily have gone to Briana Evigan, but Leighton’s much too happy at being a winner again to admit anything like that.
