BEFORE: "I firmly believe that a young fighter has to displace the women who came before her," legacy-minded Jennifer Lawrence says in prefight. "I've already battered a legend in Judd - now I can cement that reputation on Garner. She's a great fighter, but her time has come. I hope to provide Jen with the most definitive beating of her entire career. What she does with that evidence is up to her." Garner hard-eyed in rebuttal, sensing JLaw's legend-killing determination. "A lot of people are comparing Jennifer's rise to my own," Garner admits at podium. "Like her - I came rocketing out of the chute, beating everyone i came across. I was riding high when they paired me with a woman named Jamie Luner. Jamie was older - a former champion; a woman who had claimed Theron - she was considered a step-up fight for me, but I was fully expected to flatten her as I continued my breathtaking rise to the top. Luner battered me. It was heartbreaking at the time, but it was also the best thing to happen to my career. Luner showed me what it would really take to be champion, and I intend to show Lawrence the same consideration. Jenny needs a beating, and it needs to be a beating from someone exactly like me, if she's ever going to reach her full potential!" During R1: Jenny G stepping deliberately, setting down behind the left jab, then slanting straight rights down into blonde sternum. Lawrence similarly flat-footed, stepping around her own thumping jab - looking to turn over that Judd-busting hook. Steely-eyed stuff both ways - Garner separating herself late as she edges in close off the jab, fits short left uppercut to blonde chin, then beats Jlaw to hooks, sending blonde-girl reeling on her heels at bell.

R2: Similar arrangement - Garner looking to initiate with the jab; establish with the straight right sloped to body, then edge in and showcase short, muscular left hand technique. Lawrence looking to step-left around HER jab, then hook-receipt Garner after Jenny G's right hands. Minute mark: paydirt for Lawrence...hook bounces off Garner's chin, buckling her knees, leaving her momentarily spellbound. Patient follow up from Lawrence, stalking Garner...near neutral corner, it's like this:
- Garner stooped forward, frowning; Lawrence moving in from outside Garner's left shoulder...
- Lawrence dab-jabbing the left to left side of Garner's chin, freezing her...
- Swinging right hand Jlaw, takes Garner in the lower back...
- Swinging left hook Jlaw takes Garner in the face from oblique angle - knocking back her head, putting her wobbly butt as she stumbles into corner.
Jenny G in earmuff, hurt-but-determined...Lawrence wades in to finish, thump-digging right/left up into breadbasket...Garner absorbs, emerges from earmuff to pick Lawrence up via stubby left uppercut (chin); right cross combo. HAMMER AND TONGS! Lawrence buzzed but stubborn, pressing her attack to Jen's ribs...Garner fighting a ferocious defence off the turnbuckles - covering up to block, issueing quick, compact receipts...she staves off Lawrence's finishing run as both women get rocked.

Academy trainer loves the work, telling Lawrence during break: "Atta girl - you get in Garner's ribs and don't you stop. She's old, baby - she can't take that kind of business!"

R3: Similar methodical, flat-footed, steppin' stances - Garner a little busier with the jab - double-dipping it to Jlaw's face at times; still trying to set up driving straight rights to body as prelude to inside work. Lawrence standing her ground more - looking to parry Jen's body-spearing rights with the left, then answering back sidearm, pitching rights to Jen's ribs; digging left uppercuts to sternum. Garner embroiled in body-slugging...she starts to hang around, exploring Jlaw's midsection and jug via the left uppercut; chopping the sidarm right to flank-rib. Meaty two-way body-trade for two minutes - both women sopping up the other's best...Jenny G separates herself late with a short right cross to chin; clipping left uppercut to chin in tight; digging left hook to liver, sending Lawrence backing away stricken at bell. Garner forcing ferocious eye contact, as if to say: "You can't hang inside with me."

R4: Jlaw pumping left jabs - right elbow in close to her ribs...she'll swivel the right down to chop at Jen's ribs, keeping elbow in tight on delivery. Jenny G jabbin' jug...she'll dip down in her stance, then rise into stubby right uppercut, still working the Lawrence gut. Both girls finish off sequences with left hooks: makes for some tangy, crashing exchanges as each straightens up into cracking blows. Trading chin-hooks not going well for Garner: after every exchange, it's Jenny G backing away; Jenny L walking forward to re-initiate. Steady attrition on older woman's legs - Lawrence just banging out the exchanges, walking down her foe...late the round they trade to the body, straighten up to hook chins and DOWN GOES GARNER! Clanging chin-connect - Jenny G's knees giving way, sitting her in a puddle with hands behind her on canvas for support. Lawrence with a savage glare of supremacy on the strut-past...Garner gingerly up off her butt at bell.

R5: Lawrence steppin' the pressure to Garner, trading-with; walking Jenny G down as older woman gives ground. Garner lumping up, looking concerned...she's fighting well in spots - scoring to offending breadbasket; testing blonde-girl's chin via short, muscular shots from either hand...Lawrence just walking through the harm, doing damage, then looking to add on as Garner withdraws. Lawrence starting to land the hook head or body, at will, and with authority.

R6: Concerted effort by Jenny G to humble Lawrence's jugs: Garner short-shrugging hooks to rack in tight; working right uppercuts to jug. Lawrence grumpy from the pec-pounding, but continuing to press: jarring, telephone-pole jab starting to smash against Garner's brows/cheeks; chopping elbow-in right hands hacking at the Garner ribcage, and oh those hooks - claiming steadily against head and ribcage.

R7: Garner jabbed till she's butt in ropes: tough, tough 3 minutes for the veteran as young blonde has her brawny way. Thick and methodical for Lawrence - bashing lefts and rights spanking at lats/biceps/pecs - Garner stooping forward behind her mitts, sponging. Jenny G grumpy from hurt, trying the odd left uppercut as she leans back into ropes; more often tying up...Lawrence writhing in the grasp, wrestling her limbs into the clear before ref's breaks so she can continue working. Jlaw pushing and pawing on Garner - bodying up on her, making her take weight...then pushing off and applying sledgehammer logic to the problem of Garner's will. Bell: Garner mouth breathing, visibly drained and hurting...Lawrence shouting "YEAH!" as she's pushing off/turning away.

R8: Lawrence reaching under Jen's arms, wrestling her into ropes...bruising mouth-on-shoulder continues as Lawrence looks to apply simple attrition to whatever JG's got left. Garner groaning with effort of sliding left arm under Lawrence's right, turrrrning the younger girl into ropes, then pounding her righty-in-the-gut...Lawrence returning the favour in kind, paying Garner back tummy to tummy. Jenny G able to keep it up for two minutes, but down the stretch, Lawrence finds top position at ropes, owning Garner forehead-to-forehead, outworking her to ribs and tummy as JG shuts down.

R9: Garner outside, flat-footed, wide-stance, double-pumping her left jab, then walking Lawrence into clinch. Ref's break - Garner spreads Lawrence out with the jab, circles her, walks her into clinch. Lawrence gradually poked into compliance, looking sullen and punished half way through when Garner dives in short-righty onna chin instead of clinching, putting Lawrence wobbly-butt. Jenny G patient, not rushing...she reaches under hurting blonde's arms, chests Lawrence to ropes, pushes her down and THEN belts away on her, working head-and-shoulders, then body. Lawrence in stupor - finishing the round rope-bound, right hand under her chin/left across her gut, taking punches from resurgent Jenny G!

R10: Crafty Garner works the punch-n'-clutch routine again - finding and marking with the jab; slidestepping back a smidge; ducking down as Lawrence bores in; straightening up into clinch. Garner mouthbreathing, busted up, and exhausted, but finding enough leg to circle with flat-footed gait; keep the jab on Lawrence and dictate terms...blonde girl eager for decisive battle, but all too often finding herself entangled in Garner's brawny embrace. Goes to cards, comes back UD10 Lawrence!

AFter: Garner crimping lips, nodding head as Lawrence's hand is raised...blonde girl got the work done, just couldn't finish. "I gave Jennifer a terrible beating tonight," Lawrence says in postfight, "but I couldn't break her - not completely. Judd hits harder, but Jen's stronger willed. She's a tough old boot, I'll give her that. If people are comparing me to her, I'm okay with that. Hopefully I'll put up the career she did, and surpass it, and hopefully I'll still be able to go the distance like she does when I'm that age!"
