Before: Elodie confident pre-fight. “It is always a pleasure to give a new fighter her first taste of what a real fight is like. I will enjoy teaching Mickie the difference between sparring and boxing. It will be her last boxing lesson” If Mickie has newbie jitters, she hides it well, “It’s going to be a new experience, and I have to thank Elodie for coming over to break in a new fighter. I’ll have to do my best to make sure she doesn’t work too hard.”

R1: Elodie sets up at ropes. Obviously expecting the newbie to exhaust herself on the veteran’s prepared defenses, leaving herself open to counter-punching. Usually a pretty safe bet against a rookie. “Usually” being the key word here. Mickie is working the French champ over hard and fast, hooking ribs and uppercutting jaw. Elodie is trying to slip & counter, but just can’t seem to get Mickie’s timing. Mickie’s energy the difference in the round, finding holes in French defenses & smothering reciepts.

R2: Once is luck, two rounds in a row means Mickie is on to something. Mickie is in control, Elodie trying to come off the ropes but rag dolled back, totally on the defensive rest of the round.

R3: French champ makes an adjustment, finally starts to time Mickie. Damage from first two rounds takes her legs away, she has to stay in the pocket. Elodie still taking Mickie’s shot but finally able to land in return. Clever counters from Elodie probably enough to pull off a draw this round.

R4: Mickie makes an adjustment. Elodie powered into the corner, and Mickie opens up the floodgates. Frege helpless, not even rolling with punches anymore, FINALLY the ref steps in. Mickie makes an early statement by putting down a sitting champion TKO4

After: “Now THAT was fun,” Mickie says in aftermath. Frege usually a much more pro-active, energetic fighter. Don’t know if she was trying out something new out of European limelight, or what, but definitely not what one expects to see from French champion.
