BBU: "ODDS & ENDS IN THE U.K." PPV

Before: Very little to choose from in this fight. Two solid, established lightweights prepared to do battle. Laura the Italian Lightweight Champion, with an enviable record. Emmanuelle a tall, leggy, boxer, best known for giving Holly Valance all she could handle in a razor-thin loss, then knocking out bigger blonde Marissa Miller this spring.

Laura in a multicolored bikini with horizontal stripes, black gloves, hair straight and loose down her back. Emmanuelle in sky blue bikini with red and black zigzags on top and bottoms, white gloves, hair long and curly down her back.

Rd 1: Emmanuelle not looking to fight this round. Laura’s doing all the punching, gets a few good licks in during the first minute, but Emmanuelle looking to slip when she can and clinch when she can’t.

Rd 2: Laura picks up the pace, coming in more aggressive, gets stymied as Emmanuelle stymies her with an educated left jab. Vaugier comes inside now, starting to find Pausini’s head with her right as well. Laura covers up, fades to ropes and takes her medicine. Pausini rallies late, gets in some licks to Vaugier’s chin to avoid the shutout.

Rd 3: Now Vaugier takes the fight to Pausini, a combination of hooks and jabs sends the Italian champ to her butt for a 6 count. Laura comes off the canvas with blood in her eye, but Emmanuelle fades back on the defensive. Pausini’s guard is down late as she tries to land on Vaugier, she pays the price for it with another combination belting her to the jaw and ear at the bell.

Rd 4: Laura looking to get the knockdown back, comes out hard and fast. Emmanuelle not having it, leads her a merry chase around the ring as she gets on her bicycle. Laura gets in a few shots to the body, but her guard drops late, again and Emmanuelle gets them all back with interest in the last thirty seconds as a series of straight arm combos snap the Italian champ’s head back again and again. Both fighters expending a lot of energy in proportion to punches landed through 4.

Rd 5: Emmanuelle comes out confident, moves into attack, but Laura’s ready for her, and sends her back reeling with a flurry upstairs. Vaugier’s knees are trembling, Pausini is able to launch her first sustained attack of the fight, culminating in a tight uppercut that puts Vaugier on the canvas for 8. Emmanuelle is groggy and she knows it, not trying to evade, spends the rest of the round making Laura haul her around in tactical clinches.

Rd 6: Emmanuelle is too banged up to dance, now she has to trade with her heavier-handed foe. Laura surprised, backed up by the initial flurry of jabs. She firms, and gets into a good steady slugging rhythm, hurting Vaugier to the body, then moving upstairs as the round closes.

Rd 7: Laura’s in her groove now, and she continues the reduction of Emanuelle. Vaugier puts together a late flurry that keeps Pausini from landing the big punch she needs to finish the fight. Laura is pushing Emmauelle around the ring at will as the bell sounds, but both fighters are blown out as this bout grinds on.

Rd 8: Laura catches a second wind, catches Emmanuelle early with a powerful hook. Vaugier is staggered, just trying to keep enough separation to keep Pausini from laying the final telling punch she needs. In the last 30 seconds, Laura finally puts together a left uppercut, right cross combination that staggers, then drops Emmanuelle for a hard 8 count. Neither fighter has anything left, and the bell sounds before either fighter can come off the ropes.

Rd 9: Laura’s looking to engage, but while Emmanuelle’s jab is a shadow of its usual self, it is enough to keep her at bay. Emmanuelle gets off a short combo, batting Laura’s face with jabs and crosses in the middle minute. Laura clinches, Emmanuelle can’t get her off and the two spend the final minute staggering around in each other’s grip.

Rd 10: Both fighters are lumped up and bruised about the face, and have to be helped up from their stools. Emmanuelle knows she needs a knockout, and puts a flurry of hooks and uppercuts into Laura, but runs out of gas by the middle minute. Pausini is able to push her into the ropes, slopping single shots to the body, and that is where this fight ends as Pausini takes a solid decision.

After: Leggy boxer and Compact puncher put on a good, solid fight. A solid notch on both fighters resumes. Nothing to brag about, perhaps but nothing to be ashamed of either.
