(LIONESS CLUB VS GARNET GUNNERS UK)
Posted by Vassago on September 15, 2012, 3:31 pm
Second fight of the Lioness Club One Year Anniversary event features couple of girls who fought rarely this year. Local favorite Pilar Rubio defeated Kelly Reilly back in March while Gabriella Cilmi was brutally stopped by the reigning bantamweight champion Imogen Thomas on her BBU debut.
Rubio hasn't fought against top BBU names so far and one questions the decision to challenge a girl 17 years her junior. "I requested a youngster like Cilmi", says Rubio in her pre-fight interview with Kate Garraway; "I don't get enough credit in BBU and beating an upstart like Cilmi will serve my plans perfectly! She's much more dangerous than everyone thinks, but I will stop her as brutally as Imogen Thomas if not actually quicker! Prepare for Knockdown of the Night, folks!"
However Gabriella is equally confident of success as she explains to Garraway moments later: "Yeah, I lost against Thomas but she's the champ now. Safe to say I drew a short stick on my debut as Imogen was on a rise nobody expected. But I will teach Pilar a lesson, tonight. She's very brave to challenge me but also very stupid as I will beat her up! I've practiced a lot since my debut and I can promise everyone a spectacular finish!"
Pilar Rubio wearing a crimson bikini top, black leather mini-skirt and white gloves. Gabriella Cilmi wearing a silver bikini top, black panties and red gloves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1: Cilmi promised a rejuvenated performance on display tonight and she sticks to her statement. Rubio steps up to her, but misses a couple of jabs to the head and gets contered with low jabbing to the ribcage. Cilmi drives forward and catches the older woman in the guts on repeated basis inside the opening minute. Pilar clearly didn't expect such an offensive bite from her rival and struggles to cope with the circumstances. Single shots weave around Gabriella's head, but she avoids them with a lot of finesse and keeps firing away at the Spanish girl's midsection. flicks some more to the chest and tries around the head as well, but Pilar leaps back and circles away from danger. Cilmi keeps going after her though, ducks under a wide hook and nails Rubio on the chest, bangs an uppercut to the chin and pushes the helpless Spaniard on the ropes! More low jabs follow and Pilar can only cover up as Cilmi cleans out her midection, before trying some straight jabs to the chest. Rubio winces in pain already, responds very slowly, misses couple of hooks and opens up for more as Cilmi shakes her rack with some well-placed jabs! Bell halts the younger girl's charge, but that was all Cilmi inside the opening round and the Lioness corner looks concerned already.
Round 2: The Spanish determination was nowhere to be seen in the first round, but Pilar got lectured by coach Gina Wild during the interval and she comes out swinging. Cilmi's footowork is superior though as she weaves around the older rival, avoids all the leather and counters with more low jabs which can't be tamed by Pilar's inferior fitness. Cilmi is much more agile and lively on her feet, almost puzzles Rubio completely with her gung-ho demeanour in the ring and it finally pays off with Gabriella rocking the Spanish girl after another low combo forces the helpless local brunette to step back. Cilmi with a high hook, catches Rubio on the back foot and the Spaniard loses her balance, gets laced in the stomach with a low left, bends forward and Cilmi rocks her even more with a right on the cheek. Pilar tries to clinch, but is slow in execution and Cilmi pummels her to the ropes with more low jabs and continues her aggressive display over there, buries the increasinngly overwhelmed rival with more shots to the body. Pilar just covers up and eventually survives until the bell, but she's got nothing to respond the youngster's speed and agility. More concerned looks in the Lioness corner.
Round 3: Pilar is aware of her subpar performance and she desperately wants to punish the younger rival, but once again, Cilmi takes advantage of her speed and avoids Rubio's chaotic efforts, before countering to the midsection and chest with single jabs from mid-distance. Pilar misses more shots to the head and drops her aggression after Gabriella laces her in the jugs with couple of uppercuts and then cross-hooks to the nose. Rubio's head snaps back and she leaps to the ropes but is quickly forced to dance around the canvas as Cilmi fires more menacing blows; the older woman is clearly struggling to maintain the high-tempo and reverts into some clinching attempts late on, but Cilmi snaps head couple of more times. Well-placed uppercuts make their way through Pilar's arms and land on her mouth as the crowd starts to whistle; the local girls takes a pounding here and nobody likes it! At the bell Rubio is relieved but the Lioness crew needs to work on some bruises on her face as Cilmi is making a big statement so far.
Round 4: Cilmi up and running again, leaps back and forth, lands repeated blows to the ribcage and chest, Pilar just cuts harmlessly through the air and exposes herself under the arms again. Gabriella whacks her with some hooks and pushes back to the ropes where she continues to clean out her midsection. Pilar covers up, winces loudly in pain, throws some response and grazes the younger girl's cheeks but than Cilmi lands a huge overhand which staggers her for good and a low jabbing sequence bends her in half instead. Rubio loses her footing as Gabriella single strikes to the head from point blank-range; Pilar rolls the windows with her arms as she desperately tries to stay upright but a big left hook on the nose SENDS HER CRASHING DOWN ON HER BACKSIDE!!!! That was almost too easy for Cilmi to execute and Pilar beats the count with visible difficulty, her face now significantly swollen and bruised; eyes looks gloomy as well. She's up at eight though and ready for more action, but couple of her jabs crash off the guard and Cilmi fires another left hook on the face, works down low, pinning the Spaniard firmly to the ropes and tries more shots to the head but Rubio manages to avoid them and clinch moments later. Ref tries to separate the girls, but Pilar leans on her rival and despite Cilmi punching her in the ribs, she manages to hang on until the bell albeit in very sour shape.
Round 5: Rubio is even slower off her stool than she was previously and Cilmi squares up to her moments after the bell. She ducks underneath a very weak hook and bangs one herself, catching the older woman in the ribs. Pilar moans and is rocked to the side as Gabriella snaps her head with couple of more hooks. Pilar is hurt!!! Climi opens up from both wings, catches the hapless Spaniard with more vicious blows to the head and Pilar leans forward, comes nowhere near the desired clinch and eats a big left hand on the mouth instead... DOWN GOES RUBIO FLAT ON HER BACK... Gabriella looks unstoppable tonight and Pilar seemingly knows it. She shakes her head and raises herself on the right elbow but eyes are staring at the canvas and the proud Spaniard ignores Gina Wild's frantic screams from the Lioness corner. Rubio is counted out few seconds later and it looked like she didn't even try to beat the count this time. The younger girl just overwhelmed her in all areas. KO R5 Gabriella Cilmi!!!
Post-fight: Pilar gets up just as the ref counts to ten and storms out of the ring, shoving coach Wild in the proccess. She got schooled very badly tonight and everyone inside the KO Club saw it happened. There was little point in her wanting to continue; she just accepted the inevitable. Still, a very poor showing from Pilar on her employer's anniversary. Her future within the stable remains very bleak for the time being.
Meanwhile it's all smiles for Gabriella Cilmi who secured her maiden BBU victory and shares her opinion with Kate Garraway ringside: "Of course it feels great to win a fight in BBU! I lost against Imogen Thomas and couldn't get a fight for a while after that until you guys came with the offer. Personally I'd wish to face Keisha Buchanan, but not because she's a jobber (loud whistles in the crowd), only because I want to start some singer rivalry. There's too many soap opera divas wandering about for no reason! Singers are so much better! I think I can finally chose some match-ups on my own and show everyone that the sweet girl image I got stuck with is completely wrong. I can punch and destroy my opponents too! Hopefully Keisha gets her personal feud with Emma Rigby out of the way so we can meet soon. If she loses to Rigby? Well, that wouldn't surprise me, but I still want to beat her up myself!"
Final result: Gabriella Cilmi def. Pilar Rubio KO5. |
