FOXFIRE UNITED VS FRONT STREET JAPAN
Sarah Carter is known as the “Ice Queen” to her fans in the FCBA and she is her usual frosty self here in Japan. Haruna Yabuki moves to be the fan favaorite by declaring: “Sarah Carter may be a champion back where she comes from, but here in Japan she’ll be fighting ME--that will be a whole different experience for her.” Pressure on Sarah mounting as the Foxfire forces fall behind in the course of the evening, then claw back, but still need a win from the Canadian blonde champion to get a tie with the Japanese home team. Sarah in a sky blue bikini and royal blue gloves looks grim as she enters the ring. Haruna in a white bikini and gloves has a cool and determined look on her face. Fans on the edge of the seats as the bell ring, sensing this could be a very good fight between two well-matched opponents
Rd 1: Opening round sees the two fighters stalking each other around the ring, each looking for the right moment and strike. Suddenly, Haruna launches an attack and catches the blonde by surprise. Just as she did with British fighter Michelle Keegan, Haruna gives Sarah a heavy and sustained beating to the body. Sarah unable to counter and has to double up to protect her body, but this allows Haruna to land a mighty left hook to the jaw. SARAH CARTER CRASHES TO HER BACK! It’s a spectacular knockdown, though Sarah quickly sits up looking more embarrassed then hurt. The Foxfire girl beats the count, but as the fight resumes, Haruna goes right back to punishing Sarah to the body. Sarah grits her teeth and rides it out to the bell. That a look of relief on the FCBA champion’s face as the round ends? Haruna Yabuki wins the round easily.
Rd. 2: Haruna comes out like a dervish and gives Sarah’s body a tough examination, but this time Sarah’s not cooperating. Blonde digs in and refuses to be driven to the ropes and shows her leg speed to begin dancing around and bopping Haruna, who looks shocked and stunned at the unexpected resistance. Sarah’s accurate punching allows her pile up the points even though she’s not really hurting Haruna. Sarah Carter takes the round and evens things up.
Rd. 3: Sarah now building on her comeback, she finds her range early and becomes a very evasive target for Haruna after every attack. Sarah’s technique is jab, land, then skip back and draw Haruna forward, then bouncing more punches off her face. Haruna’s cheeks reddening and she’s eating a lot of Canadian leather every flurry. Haruna keeps lunging, trying to counter to Sarah’s body, but the Japanese fighter is unable to get her punches through and gets caught two, three times for every blow she actually lands. Sarah wins the round.
Rd. 4: Sarah showing really good stuff in this round, she’s giving Haruna a lesson, making her look like a rookie and tops it all off with a good right hook on the jaw. Haruna knocked back on her heels, is forced to go face-in-gloves to protect herself. Sarah happy to take the opportunity for some bodywork on the FSJ girl. Haruna finally starts holding and clinching where she can, but mostly she’s being worked around the ring as Sarah adds another round to her total.
Rd. 5: Sarah comes out smiling with confidence and heads right for Haruna as soon as the bell rings. Sarah jabbing and moving, switching to the body nicely, then seeming to feel she has Haruna properly weakened, starts trading with her midring--but this time it is Sarah Carter who is taught a lesson! Haruna loves this kind of trading and she seizes the chance with three savage blows to the blonde’s body that hit with sweaty SPLATTS! Sarah then takes a right off to the face that sends the blonde stumbling backwards. Haruna in hot pursuit rips into Sarah’s body and then puts a right hand into the Canadian’s solar plexus. SARAH DROPS TO HER KNEES! Sarah gasping for breath even after she staggers to feet and tries to hang on to Haruna as the fight resumes. Haruna clips in some good, solid head shots that splits Sarah’s lips bloody and has her wobbling at the bell. Haruna Yabuki wins the round and announces she’s back in this fight!
Rd. 6: Good punches from both fighters early, with Haruna backing Sarah up again and staggering her with a left hand to the cheek and right to the mouth, Haruna looks determined to knock out the FCBA champion, but Sarah shows why she is a champion by digging deep and counter punching hard. Haruna forced back and then hurt to the face by Carter’s accurate, hard-driven jabbing. Haruna backs off for a bit, but manages to get Sarah trapped in her own corner and trades ferocious hooks with the blonde. Sarah roughed up again, though she keeps on her feet. Haruna takes the round.
Rd. 7: Sarah shows her good conditioning by being able to pick up the pace at this point in the fight. Haruna visibly wilting as her face gets whipped with a series of Carter jabs. Sarah sees the Japanese girl fading and swiftly redoubles her effort. Sarah able to stalk Haruna to the ropes and get her backed against the strands. Sarah coolly measures her girl and wasting no effort, proceeds to throw only punches that are going to land and score points. Rounds ends with Haruna looking shabby as Sarah is able to hit her at will. Sarah takes a round.
Rd. 8: Haruna shows her own toughness by shaking off the beating she took in R7 and hitting Sarah hard to the body with her left hook as R8 opens. However the Foxfire blonde stands her ground and returns fire with accurate punching that take their toll of the FSJ girl. A cut now opens over Haruna’s left eyebrow and Sarah focuses on that as she keeps Haruna busy against the ropes. Haruna finally forced to half turn her head and body to shield her swollen and bleeding eye, but this makes it hard for her to punch back. Sarah becomes economical again with her work, but uses a swift combination to stun Haruna near the end of the round. Sarah adds another stanza to her card.
Rd. 9: Both girls looking tired in this round, but Sarah’s got the more experience, and she uses it as she lands some crisp punches to both sides of Haruna’s face. Blood now flowing freely from the cut over the left eye, and for the first time tonight, Haruna’s looking vulnerable. Sarah controlling the Japanese fighter nicely and the punishment mounts. HARUNA IS DOWN! Dazed look on Haruna face, as though she didn’t know what she should do next, but she picks herself up in time to beat the count and defends herself as best she can once the battle resumes. Sarah landing more measured punches to the bell to win the round.
Rd 10: Haruna hasn’t got anything left at this point, and she quickly starts taking more and more leather from Sarah. The Foxfire fighter is landing to both head and body now. Sarah looks tired and her punches are now lacking her earlier precision . Sarah playing in safe now, going through the motions, not risking swapping punches with Haruna lest a slip in a lucky one, but not trying to land any telling punches herself. An understandably quiet round ends with the two fighters leaning against one another for a long moment then turning away.
Decision takes a will and it produces a mixed reaction of cheers and booing from the crowd: Sarah Carter awarded the decision over Haruna Yabuki, but it’s a 2-1 split decision from the judges.
After: “I’ll take it,” an exhausted Sarah Carter tells the press in the post-fight, “Haruna gave me one helluva of fight, but I EARNED this win. Frankly, I think it should have been unanimous in me favor, but that’s judges for you. I am feeling very satisfied that I got my team a tie. It’s not as a great as a win, but at least we kept those FSJ girls from saying they beat us.”
Haruna Yabuki tells the press: “I was not surprised by the result, though I was disappointed I left this fight slip away. I had her down earlier and I should have been able to finish her then. You don’t get many chances to knockout a fighter as good as Sarah Carter, I regret I let this one get by me. I am proud of what I and my teammates accomplished tonight. We took on a very successful team and we fought them to a 3-3 stand-off. It was a great night for Front Street Japan and I am so glad I was a part of it. It will stand as a Japanese Celebrity Boxing Legend for years to come!” |
