Before: Oldest rivalry in boxing with technically more proficient, more athletic, more experienced Romijn having been routinely thumped by the heavy handed but crude Carey--rare 3 straight drubbings had at one time chased Rebecca into early retirement. “It’s always bothered me,” a pensive Romijn admits in preflight, “that whole stigma of being handled like that by Mariah…it’s tough. It’s time to stand up to her though. I feel I’m the best welterweight in the game and there’s no way Mariah is in my class. Until I shut her up, people are always going to doubt my quality.” Carey having a grand old time getting reacquainted with the FCBA. Strong performance in defeat to Tyra Banks, Mariah’s ready to get happy on Becky’s questionable chin. “It’s going to be another HUGE knock out victory for me,” beams Mariah. “I can’t wait to lay Rebecca down and out…AGAIN!” Romijn in black push up, black velvet boy cut trunks--Mariah in pink and blue streaked bikini, hair up.

During R1: Becky laying down the law with legs, stick in a rangy first. Romijn very intense, exhaling “HA! HA!” as she pops the jab, quickly shuffling to her left as Carey turns. Mariah dukes at chest height, trying to walk Becky down, but she’s not getting off--just getting her face spanked, trying to bat at Becky’s jab with little success. Shutout Becky,

R2: Mariah a little more constructive, stepping-to and sweeping right hands to Mariah’s ribs or belly, shifting her hips to haul the hook across up top. Becky wary--gobbling up great chunks of clock and canvas with long strides--she doesn’t want to get into lengthy exchanges with Mariah. Romijn content to score with the jab, keeping it on Carey, steering her midring.

R3: Anxious moments Romijn as Carey spins her along the ropes, Mariah slugging with wide, carefree gusto--clanging away to the flanks and waist, bending side to side to haul in walloping stroke. Romijn leaning back into the ropes, turning her shoulders side to side--she’s getting clobbered, but routinely lunging at Mariah to cuddle her close for breaks. Bell to bell Carey, but blonde doing a nice job minimizing the damage--Romijn holding shamelessly rather than slug her way off the strands.

R4: Becky on her toes, pop-pop-popping that jab--Carey turning, facing into poke, blinking stupid as her head gets smacked back and BECKY LANDS THE CROSS! Gobsmacking clout swivels Casey’s head and unhinges her knees--Mariah wobbling, arms outstretched, sniveling as she gropes for Becky’s hips to clinch. Blonde won’t have it--she lopes away to the right, backhanding her jab onto Mariah’s eye and jaw, drawing warnings--Carey turning like Kong atop the Empire State Building, swatting at biplanes. Rebecca chipping away, safety first--she had Mariah hurt, but lets her off the hook to pocket the points rather than take a risk to get Carey out of there.

R5: Becky okaying it cagey00really sticking Carey, busting her up the jab, circling and choosing sports to come in. Romijn banking body shots--long right hands slanted down to belly, licking hooks in the flank whenever Mariah covers up and tilts forward. Beck collecting firm connects, but always stepping to the side--Carey landing the off wife shot in the shoulder or ribcage, but unable to get into a slugging rhythm. All Romijn through 5--Carey a distant second on the cards.

R6: Drawn round as Mariah presses and gets a body on Romijn--Becky quickly negating the beefy songbird with ropey clinches. Beck getting the jab on Carey at will--Mariah lumping up around the eyes, bleeding from the nose, but she shows some good aggression in steadfastly bringing the fight to Becky.

R7: Becky smart--she’s established range, now she’s touching Carey to the body at every opportunity, steadily wicking away the power. Becky able to lance long right straight down into firm Carey breadbasket, licking Carey hooks along the right flank, Mariah doesn’t like it: mouth open, face constipated--she struggles forward flat footed, pawing to find Rebecca, but Romijn staying well away when she’s not getting off.

R8: Hard fought two way--Becky standing flat footed more often, willing to trade with a shopworn Carey at this point, Mariah eating flush right hands, hooks off her face, taking that slanting right to the midsection and sullenly accepting Romijn’s hooks in her ribs. Carey in range often enough to lather shellack on Becky--robust lefts and rights, elbows in, good leverage with the body behind the stroke--but Becky’s done a fine job of taking a little something out if Mariah through 8. At the bell, Becky’s stoked, shouting out “YES!” and pumping her fist en route to her corner--Carey drooping, discouraged, really taking a beating tonight.

R9: Becky makes Carey look foolish in the first minute, wheeling to the left as Mariah lunges in a telegraphed right, bouncing off adjacent ropes in the corner to step around a charging Carey. Flustered, Mariah stop punching after a minute of wild misses--Becky takes over. Romijn working behind her jab, gets Carey gorging from poke, then slides a right to the body, swipes a hook across an open mouth, eases to the side, Becky potshot ting, working the head, the body and squashing some jug this round with thudding right hands that have Mariah groaning, Late the round: Carey toppling backward from jabs, turning her face to her right while extending her hands--Becky roars in over the top with a CRASHING right hand and DOWN GOES CAREY! Mariah dropped in heap near her corner--gritty effort for her to beat the count and finish up the round all wobbly butt and tingly.

R10: Becky spends two minutes embarrassing a thoroughly beat-down Mariah--crisp jabs punching back Carey’s laughably exposed face, jabs between the jugs, jabs to the body. One-twos Ka-ching off Mariah’s chin, swiveling her head, leaving her staring. Body shots lick home--Becky really roping ‘em in with murderous lanky limited hooks or shivering spearing rights--Carey badly hobbled but refusing to go down. Final minute, Becky backs off and laughs, taunting poor broke-down Mariah as singer achily gives chase. Becky sidestepping, ushering Carey past with a helpful hand in the back, dancing around Mariah--it’s pure, unabashed gloating to the bell, Romijn thrusting her hands high and bellowing in anticipation of the dukes--Carey puffy, somber doesn’t want to watch. Comes back UD10 wide--Rebecca Romijn.

After: Romijn crying joyous tears of relief in the post fight throng--she took Mariah Carey bapart tonight by showstopping margin of 8-1-1 in rounds. “It’s the beating I’ve waited three years to give Mariah Carey,” Becky weeps in post fight. “She had nothing--I worked the first half of the fight just breaking her down with the jab, being her boss, discouraging herm then I went to her body to take away her power. My legs KILLED her tonight0she couldn’t get off hardly at all the way I was getting in and out. Carey can’t handle lateral movement and I’ve probably got the best legs in boxing--it was a TOTAL mismatch!”
