TKO7—Madsen quits on stool

Cougar/Ingenue skirmishing continued as the born-again Madsen took on the often overlooked, but promising Moore in a battle of tall, full-bodied gun platforms. In methodically paced, punishing stop-and-go action, the long beauties touched each other hard jabs, fell into brawny clinches and sought to slop right hands to opposing chins. It was beefy, thoughtful, stalking action as both vixens enjoyed the upperhand at times though 6 seesaw heats, but the seventh, Mandy Moore would separate herself decisively from her classy blonde foe.

Four knockdowns. That’s what Mandy was able to achieve from four right hands distributed more or less evenly throughout the 3 minutes of the seventh round. Madsen grew more shopworn and shabby after each setback, grimly fighting her way up off the canvas and swaying back into action against increasing odds; Mandy Moore simply stepped on the gas and drove victory home. Guided by a long, strong left hand—either jabbing pre-emptively, or sweeping to gather Virginia in—More was able to channel her opponent into the fight winning haymakers, absolutely devastating the well-travelled blonde with accuracy and heft. During the break, a bleak and shellshocked Madsen signaled her submission to the ref, discretion proving the better part of valour as four trips to the canvas convinced the old pro that victory now lay beyond her grasp.

For Moore, an exciting return to form. She didn’t dominate the early going—indeed, the cards revealed only a slender one point lead for Mandy going to the seventh—but in the heavy set-piece exchanges, she had incrementally broken her foe down to the point where Madsen could no longer stand against Moore’s heaviest blows. Mandy’s right hand may be the equivalent of a Laura Prepon’s: combined with a successful cinema career, strong publicity, and a better tool box of ring skills perhaps Moore’s star is finally on the rise after a long, frustrating apprenticeship.
