It's another England vs Australia clash in the Wembley Arena as raven-haired actress Kym Marsh (Kear's Kats) is looking to build upon her brutal punchout of Liz McClarnon in the recent Triple Crown event and promises to do likewise with fellow TV star Natalie Bassingthwaighte (Downunder Boxing). The Aussie blonde has lost her last two bouts against Melanie Brown and Denise van Outen but claims she'll handle Marsh without much trouble this time around.
Both women are very confident before their fight and Kym's recent victory is obviously scorned by the Aussie camp who believe McClarnon was just a jobber asking to get her face bashed in. "I could have battered Liz myself", NatBass is happy to explain Denise van Outen during her pre-fight interview, "but I've decided that hammering Kym Marsh into a bloody pulp would be even better." BBU's leading reporter van Outen has other ideas and can't ignore the fact she knocked Natalie out back in June as two blondes are involved in a heated conversation with the mic turned off, but they are separated when Kym Marsh is introduced into the ring. She notices the two blondes in the opposite corner and offers them a sarcastic smile. 'Don't take any advice from that old hack, van Outen! It won't help you anyway and I must just finish you off, NatBass sooner than I send Liz McClarnon into her jobber place."
After a brief delay with Denise van Outen trying to get a word with Marsh before being ignored, both NatBass and Kym come forward and touch with their breasts looking deep in the eye of each other. They're both 5'4", so there's nothing to chose between them and Natalie just managed to force Kym to blink first. However the raven-haired actress clearly wins the cleavage contest. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Natalie Bassingthwaighte wearing a navy blue bikini top, white panties and golden gloves. Kym Marsh wearing a black bikini with red stripes and red gloves.
Round 1: These two women seemingly hate each other and waste little time in throwing heavy leather straight from the bell. So much for the potential careful approach here as Kym smacks a right hook on the cheek and eats a similar one in response before more chaotic shots follow but there's no breakthrough with neither woman able to find the precision and after taking more blows to the body, they finally step away from each other and begin to circle around. NatBass shows more variety in mid-range, slips underneath a wayward hook from Marsh and spikes her on the ribs, follows up with a quick jab on the jugs and misses a hook to the head, allowing the raven-haired actress to clinch her. Kym whips some shots to the kidneys but Natalie whacks her on the back of the head and the ref is called into action with Marsh throwing the blonde a proper death stare. More jabs to the midsection from NatBass follows and she pushes her foe on the back foot as Kym's punches to the head are missing the target and the Coronation Street girl finally seeks respite along the ropes with the Aussie actress winning the first mini-battle on the night.
Round 2: Both women square off again in the middle of the ring and Kym just can't find her range, misses couple of hooks and allows Bassingthwaighte to bounce off her breasts, followed by a quick uppercut to the chin and that rocks Marsh back as the blonde pours in with more body shots. Breast-maulling at it's best and NatBass has already given Kym more damage than Liz McClarnon did back at Ascot! Kym jumps to the ropes, covers up but gets laced with a huge shot on the liver as Natalie just bashes her along the corner post! Footwork was never one of Marsh's strong suits and she's suffering under a heavy barrage with Bassingthwaighte going around her elbows and further bruising the ribcage. Angry shouts from Kear's Kats' head coach Gail Kim but Downunder's corner is equally animted with Nikki Visser supervising Natalie's performance. Marsh has no answer to Bassingthwaighte's sudden rage and remains pinned on the back foot for remainder of the round, but withstands the midsection pummelling, escaping any damage to the face as NatBass didn't really target that area in this round.
Round 3: Bassingthwaighte visibly boosted by her performance so far; jumps after the raven-haired opponent and slips through with more body shots but Kym stands tall and fires a straight jab on the left eye, snapping the blonde's head back. NatBass leans on her though and seeks more damage to the ribs, yet is forced back for good when another jabbing combo cuts through her mitts and lands on the left eye again. Kym works the single hand in response, leaps after the blonde and nails her over the top for the fourth time in quick succession and that results in a small bruise appearing under the Bassingthwaighte's eye already. The Aussie actress proved to be quite hittable in her previous BBU fights but she ignores the small wound under her eye as she whips hooks from both sides and catches Marsh on the cheek soon afterwards and that relieves Kym from making further inroads as NatBass reverts to the ribcage pounding, finds more success around the elbows, tries to bounce off the rack with repeated uppercuts but Marsh protects herself better this time and forces the clinch to run the clock down. Bassingthwaighte throws more shots to the ribcage but skims off the forearms and just pushes her opponent to the ropes where the bell eventually separates them.
Round 4: NatBass swings but misses a quick left hook and Kym whacks her on the chest in response, follows up by a quick jab on the eye and has the blonde rocking from side to side in the middle of the ring! It's the English girl's turn to target the midsection now as she cleans out Bassingthwaighte's ribcage before cutting through her mitts again and landing a sharp uppercut on the jaw! Natalie's head springs backwards and Kym nails her with another right hook on the eye and that opens the cut even further as the Aussie caves face-in-gloves. More ribcage pouding from Marsh sends her to the ropes though and the raven-haired vixen whips a series to the guts, has no trouble with dismantling the blonde's cumbersome defence and that makes Bassingthwaighte moan in pain as Kym whips another right over the top! Blood starts to sprinkle from the wound under the eye but that only fuels Marsh's anger and she intends to make further damage; she drops the low jabbing and pays the price as NatBass clinches her and settle for a shoving duell along the ropes. Ref drags the English girl back and allows Bassingthwaighte to escape from a tough spot and now it's Marsh looking annoyed as the Aussie blonde circles back to center of the ring. Both women catch some respite and refuse to engage in another trade-off but NatBass is wiping the blood off her face and that eye injury doesn't look all that promising with six scheduled rounds still remaining.
Round 5: Coach Gail Kim indicates there's a chance for Kym to really pulp the blonde up but the English girl doesn't need any advice as she goes for the eye wound straight off the bell and forces Bassingthwaighte to weave around on her feet. She tries to respond with more shots to the midsection but seems overprotective up high, drops her left arm too much and Marsh whacks her with a huge hook on the chin instead, showing she's still capable of noticing other flaws in her rival's stance. NatBass' knees buckle a bit and she leans forward, tries to find a clinch, but Marsh slips under her elbows, nails her on the ribs and bounces off the rack herself, another left over the top sends the blonde's head rocking back and forth and a right hook lands straight on the eye as Bassingthwaighte loses her plot alltogether and stumbles on the ropes. Marsh misses the follow up though, allows the Aussie girl to finally clinch her and they trade some jabs to the stomach but tangle up too much and require the ref to separate them. Bassingthwaighte with a big hook from behind the guard, beats the raven-haired woman for pace and nails her on the mouth as Kym leans on her, skims off the forearms with low efforts though and enables the blonde to land couple more jabs on the mouth which force her back and allow Bassingthwaighte to step away from danger.
Round 6: Marsh looks annoyed over the end of the previous round and hassles her rival with more menacing hooks to the head but NatBass counters and squares up to the English rival, whacks her on the tummy and bounces off the jugs again before getting nailed with a right hook on the wounded eye. Something's not right with the blonde's tactics as she gets laced repeatedly on her weak spot but still comes back for more, refusing to stay in mid-distance. She uppercuts between Kym's gloves though and snaps her head back but Marsh holds her ground and sends a series to the ribcage and they just trade vicious leather literally hoping to tear one another apart. Head snapping combo from Bassingthwaighte finally gives her edge but she fails to trap her rival on the ropes and Marsh single strikes to the face in response. She circles back but keeps the Aussie honest and Natalie slips under her elbows with a quick jab gut is slow to raise her guard before another right hook roughs up her eye. More blood comes from the wound and there's a lump growing bigger on top of that with Kym working the single hand and the blood flow finally upsets the blonde who drops her arms and retreats into safety. Slow circles from Marsh follow, the raven-haired actress well aware of the injury problem for her rival, leaves her worried and frantically worked on during the interval.
Round 7: Downunder Boxing corner has real trouble with the lump under Natalie's eye but there's no way back from here and attacks seems to be the only answer as Bassingthwaighte leaps out after her rival and whacks her on the chest but gets caught with a big right over the top in response as Marsh wobbles but still fired a lethal punch. NATBASS ON HER KNEES!!! How quick was that? One punch knockdown from Kym who stares at the stunned blonde with visible disdain but it's far from over yet as the proud Aussie gets up at six, but oh my, that lump is close to reaching a tennis ball size now and one must wonder how much does Bassingthwaighte actually see now? Kym's on the charge after the command as she works the single hand on the eye and Natalie just turns to the other side, but gets whacked between the arms anyway and is pushed back on the ropes. She tries to tame the onslaught but skims off the flesh and fails to land a noteworthy punch anymore as Marsh is plain mad out here and sends a flurry of shots to the ribcage, sinks the blonde foe on her knees and uppercuts on the chin to really wilt her down. NatBass just covers up but Kym takes full advanatge of her position now as she unloads heavy leather, literally hoping to shatter Bassingthwaighte's gloves and she breaks through a couple of times and lands more shots on the jaw which leave the blonde moaning in pain and swaying on her legs at the bell. Is there any comeback possible for the proud Aussie now?
Round 8: Bassingthwaighte shakes her head and indicates she can't see much through that lump but refuses to quit only to find out that was probably the sensible option as Kym spikes through her mitts seconds into the eight and whacks her on the liver in a fine combo execution. Natalie yelps in pain and bends to the side and looks in all kinds of bother now as Marsh walks her to the ropes with a flurry of jabs over the top and keeps her pinned there with more jabs on the ribcage. NatBass just covers up and hopes that Kym wears herself out but there's no chance for that to happen and she just bashes the stranded blonde on the ropes, breaks through her mitts as well, uppercuts her jaw and when Bassingthwaighte's arms drop to the side, she whacks her on the wounded eye and just tears the lump apart as the blonde's face officially becomes a mess... REF HAS SEEN ENOUGH... He charges in and embraces the roughed up Aussie girl as Kym heads back to coach Gail Kim to celebrate her second consecutive victory... TKO R8 Kym Marsh!!!
Post-fight: Both women seemed very equally matched and the fight was decided when Kym Marsh managed to inflict a wound on her opponent and just methodically worked it over to the point Natalie Bassingthwaighte just couldn't take it anymore and ended up with her face bashed into a bloody mess. On the other hand the Aussie blonde landed some impressive shots to Kym's chest and could have really hurt the raven-haired actress with this kind of tactics but when Marsh cut her up, she somewhat wilted under the circumstances and lost her agressive approach.
Bassingthwaighte still doesn't look all that confident when getting roughed up and as a result suffered her third straight BBU defeat with couple of others against European opposition under AWUBA rules to go along with that. She participated in the 2011 edition of 'The Ashes' where she lost to Alesha Dixon, but in wake of her current form I don't think Elle MacPherson and Nikki Visser will nominate her to take part in that event next year unless there's a dramatic change of performance in the upcoming months.
Final result: Kym Marsh def. Natalie Bassingthwaighte TKO8.
