And cue ‘Statto’ Georgie Thompson for the potted histories:

Charlotte has lost her Welsh bantamweight title, and will be keen to show the fans that she still has what it takes. She’s still only 26, but Liverpool’s redhaired Nicola has recently beaten Lisa Maffia, and will be looking to build on that success.

Nicola’s in the ring first, in a red one piece outfit, and here’s Charlotte – bright blue bikini for her. Both girls look keen to fight, and this fight might explode!

Well done Georgie – keep your opinions to yourself, though, huh?

Round 1

No holds barred here! These two are just trying to knock each other’s head off at the moment but one of them’s got to give – and it’s Nicola! Charlotte’s swinging in some big shots to the Liverpool girl’s face, and she’s moved her back wards with that – Church got home with two big lefts, then slotted home the right , and Roberts tottered a bit! Charlotte’s after her, but Nic’s got a good technique, and she’s showing it now – those are good jabs from Roberts, and that’s neat little hook she got in with then – right on Char’s mouth. She’ll feel that later when that bottom lip fattens up, but for now she’s defending as Nicola hits her face.

Round 2

It’s all Nicola at the moment! She’s finding Charlotte with every punch she throws, and the Welsh girl needs to fight back – she missed with a poorly timed punch then, and Nic raps her, the punches landing in quick succession, and Church is on her knees! That lip’s bleeding now, and she wipes her mouth with her white glove to check it, and is on her feet at 7, scowling at Nicola! Nic doesn’t seem to care though, and with an out of control Church flailing wildly, she picks her off with ease and gives her a lesson in control – Charlotte’s corner is furious with her!

Round 3

Charlotte’s still coming forward – and that punch landed! She rocked Nicola with a spanking right hook and again! Nicola’s rocked backwards from those punches, and takes another! This is Charlotte at her best, really laying into the redhead, but Nic’s not giving in to her, and she stands her ground, landing some good, accurate punches to Char’s face. The girls both stand off, but only briefly, and Roberts gives Church another lashing to the face, great right hand sending her back. But Church seeks Roberts out to the ribcage again there, and that’s a fine shot into her tummy, really got home with that, and a little gasp from Nic tells her it hurt – good finish to the round from Church!

Round 4

It looks to me like that punch late in the third has taken the spring out of Nicola – Charlotte’s got her troubled now, and she fires into her body again – that hurt her! Now she moves the attack, and she caught Roberts with that hook – Roberts is looking at her corner, but Gail Kim’s telling her to face up, but Church bangs her again hard, and Nic back tracks to the ropes, and she’s really looking upset – good right hook from Church, and Nicola sits down! Charlotte’s ready for her when she gets to her feet at 8, and she got her again there – really hit Roberts hard with her left hand, and that’s damaged her cheek a little – there’s the bell, and Nicola’s not moving well.

Round 5

Charlotte’s got Nicola in trouble here, and she’s at her to the body again, giving her a lot of shots especially with her left hand. But Nic’s fighting back now, and her more correct punching is paying dividends, pumping Char’s head back with her jabbing, and she landed well to the body there with her right – took the wind out of Church with that! Good swinging hook from Charlotte though, right on that bruised up cheek, and Nic’s covering up as Char gets in close – good punch back from Roberts though, and that’s sent Charlotte backwards again. Another hard shot from Nicola, and again! Church is hurt now, and she’s trying to hold and clinch – that’s the bell!

Round 6

Charlotte’s a bit subdued now, and I think she’s feeling those solid jabs. She’s getting a few more now, as Nicola finds her face again with three good ones. Church hangs on, and she’s stopping Roberts from hitting her by leaning into her, the ref having to pull her away there. Now Nicola changes tack, and she’s moving and jabbing, and Church is taking a lot of punishment again, trying to swing those looping hooks, but getting picked off, looking a novice I’d say, and she can’t get close enough to clinch – boy does her face look sore! Really grazed and roughed around both eyes, and she’s not gonna be a pretty sight come the morning!

Round 7

Nicola’s still delivering from range, still cracking that jab home on Charlotte’s face, and still too quick in defence for the Welsh girl to hit her with anything much. Charlotte’s still trying to land, but she’s getting beaten to the punch so easily, and she’s beginning to wilt, I’d say – two heavy punches from Roberts there, and she’s cut Church now to go with all her other wounds. There’s a trickle of blood from Char’s left cheek, and she’s got a problem protecting that, because Nic’s finding it with every jab she throws, and Church is looking really dazed now as she staggers back to her corner.

Round 8

Once again all I can see is Nicola battering Charlotte and Charlotte’s leaking blood from that cut cheek, and from her lips, getting tagged again, and she can’t take too much more. Church, you gotta defend, honey! Now Nic’s giving her a few blows around the ribs, and the girl’s hardly moving – right hook from Nicola, and Charlotte’s gone down. Church is rolling over, and she forces herself back up, but she isn’t looking great – count got to 8, and here they go again! And Charlotte’s shaky now, trust me! Nicola’s unloading, and she just hurt Charlotte again with a solid, straight left to the mouth, then swiped a hook across her boobs, but again Church makes it to the bell.

Round 9

Now Nicola’s trying to finish this job off, and she’s slamming punches into Charlotte’s face again, and she’s got her all tied up on the ropes. She nailed her again with the left, straight onto that cut cheek, and there’s the right again as well – aww, poor Church can’t take much more, surely? But back she comes! Wow! Charlotte’s laying into Nicola’s body, and the redhead’s hurting again now – unbelievable courage from Church! She’s responded so well to the beating she was taking, and now she’s got Roberts backed into a corner, and that’s great work – but Nic has turned her, put Charlotte on the ropes, and – ouch – hurts her with another left hook! There’s the bell, and both girls have given everything, I reckon!

Round 10

Nicola’s staying away from Charlotte early, and I don’t blame her – she’s won this fight unless Churchy knocks her out – and she’s capable of that! Char’s going for it, too! She’s ignoring Nic’s jabs, and steaming in, banging the redhead in the body, still she gets hit in the face, but she doesn’t care, and she’s wearing Roberts down, she’s hurting her, and she’s making her bend over doubling her up almost – wow! What an uppercut from Church – and she’s split Roberts’ nose open – split it across the bridge, and she’s trying to knock Nicola out now! Nicola’s stumbling, taking a battering, and her knees are barely holding her up. Nic’s clinching and hanging onto Char, who beats her hard to the body to try to prise her off, but she won’t now, because that’s the end of the fight!

What a fight!

The result is that Nicola Roberts has beaten Charlotte Church on points, but that statistic will never tell the story as to how both girls could have won at almost any stage!
