Minka Kelly versus Summer Glau
BEFORE: Minka Kelly comes in a lot of questions after her recent loss to Leighton Meester, but is eager to dismiss those with a big win tonight over Summer Glau. Minka established her fight credentials as “clutch” with her win over Meester previously, but people are now wondering whether her mental toughness has been diminished in the wake of that stunning KO. Minka rolls her eyes at such claims, stating emphatically“Leighton. Was. A. Fluke. That's all. Summer is going to learn that tonight. I am the alpha bantamweight at Lookout! and Sum is going to learn why!” Summer has had a rough 2012 herself, but hopes to be rounding back into shape after a win over Liz Olsen and hopes to gain some momentum heading into the following year. On the podium, Summer Glau with a smile, apparently nonplussed by such claims, “Minka thinks she's an elite bantamweight. Too bad I'm an elite bantam, so Minka is going to find out what happens when you run into one of those. I'm not scared of Minka, I'm not backing down and we'll see how much of a fluke her loss to Leighton was, won't we?” The two of them exchanging cool glares at this verbal throwdown.
Summer wearing a baby blue bikini with matching gloves – hair in a ponytail; Minka has her hair in a ponytail as well, clad in a white bikini with golden trim, matching gloves.
R1: Minka coming forward in her stance, eager to establish her control behind her jab, maneuvering with a right-left combination aiming for Summer's head and torso. Minka unable to connect consistently as Summer slides and dances away, moving backwards away from Kelly's aggressive attacks. Minka glaring as Summer lopes around the ring – hopping away from the pressure coming from Minka's constant jabs and hooks. Summer continually making Kelly follow as Glau appears content to let Minka clean up on points, but in the final minute, Summer comes forward, whipping her gloves forward, limber as she swings her gloves up from her hips, connecting with double hooks that slam into Kelly's torso. Finishing off the round with a clipping right uppercut that has Kelly staggering around at the bell. Summer avoids most of the round, then steals it late with an impressive display to leave Minka wondering just what the hell just happened.
R2: Minka emerges from her corner, shaking her head after that last round, eager to shake off that stolen round and get back to what works for her. Again, early on, it appears to work, as Minka sends out her right glove into Sum's gut repeatedly, trying to wear her down and then snapping out her left towards Glau's face. But, Sum is not going to stand still for such treatment and manuevers in circles, showing off limber, sending out her gloves to lash against Kelly's ribs and torso. Summer pouncing forward all bendy, keeping Minka confused by odd angles of attack, smacking in she sends her gloves whipping into Minka's body. Minka trying to fight back, gloves smacking out towards Summer, but Summer's nimble agility allows her to avoid the worst of it as Summer continues to stroke her shots across Kelly's body, just lashing away. Minka is hugging her body at the bell, eyes filled with confusion, blinking with hurt.
R3: Minka appears a little spooked by the lithe agility of Summer Glau and it shows, with Minka coming forward to send out some jabs to Glau's face or hooks to torso, but it's Summer coming forward this time. Summer using those buggywhip right hands, limber strokes that slam into Minka's torso again, seemingly knocking the wind out of her a bit. Minka forced to cover up a bit, then coming forward, eyes flashing, in hot pursuit of Summer but Glau making her work for every step she takes, gloves driving into her tummy and ribs. Minka still shooting out that jab, seeking to find Summer's head, but Glau continues to lope away, scrubbing away at Minka's torso and forces Minka to lunge forward in attack When Minka does though, it's a hard right cross to cheek from Summer that sends Minka spilling forward to the canvas. A lot like her previous match, her aggression has cost her as she lays facedown in the canvas, head spinning and unable to rise. Minka comes close to getting, but it's no go. Summer knocks out Minka as the ref holds up one of those lanky, punishing arms to award her the win via KO3!
AFTER: It will not be a Happy New Year for Minka Kelly as the last several months have been an absolute disaster, going from the brink of the bantamweight title to several crushing losses to put her alpha aspirations in total disarray. To cement this fact, you have Elisha Cuthbert waving from the sidelines, clearly happy with the outcome as she takes pictures with her cell phone and then appears to be tweeting Minka's tears to her Twitter followers, just all smiles. Not too far away, Minka can see Leighton Meester, just smirking, putting her stablemate in absolute disarray as she brings up her hands to form a little “heart” sign and then pulls them apart, indicating “heart-broken.” and laughs. There's no doubt Minka is as she struggles to rise to go after Leighton or Lishy, whichever one she can get her hands on, but Minka is held back by ring officials who insist on checking her out. Elisha takes a few more pictures before heading out and Leighton just disappears into the crowd, Minka almost able to hear her laughter. Summer just watches it with a smile, bobbing on her feet, almost chirping, “Told you I'd win! If Minka wants to try to insist MY win is a fluke, good luck. She is going to need it with all the girls coming after her now that I've busted her up. Now, however, I'm getting back into the shape that won me the bantamweight championship and I want it back. To the rest of the bantam division, I'm coming for you!” - and holds up her fists, grinning as she put on a great display tonight and knows it! Minka left in tears as Summer leaves the ring with a victory. |
