Before: Bloodgood brushing off talk about her loss to Rihanna last year. “I’ve been around the block. I lost, it happened. I HOPE she’s thinking about it. There’s nothing easier to handle then somebody who thinks they’re going to roll right over you. ‘Cause when that doesn’t work, they never have a back-up plan!”

Rihanna dismissive: “She’s soft. They thought they had a champ, and she couldn’t handle the pressure. When I beat her again, she’ll have no choice but to admit it. You heard it here folks, this is Moon Bloodgood’s last fight!”

Rihanna recreating her reptile costume from the “Where Have You Been?” video. “Scales” covering her breasts & hips, with a scaled ridge coming over her back. Moon may have won costume of the evening honors, though. White gloves, blond hair cut short. The Bird of Prey motif she went with results in an iridescent black feather pattern covering her chest and the front of her hips. Her hair is gathered up in a crown braid, to give a free view to the highlight of the outfit. The black wings start at each shoulder blade, curving gently inward across the dorsal plane, meet and cross at her buttocks, then finally terminate into points midway down her thighs. Her black gloves have talons stenciled on them The overall effect is a showstoppingly impressive visual that completely steals the show from Rihanna.

R1: Flatfooted beauties come together midring. Heavy-handed trade goes Moon’s way, Rihanna backpedaling, takes a Bloodgood right cross, AND SLIPS ONTO HER BACKSIDE! Ri up quickly, but Moon bullrushes out of the neutral corner, forcing action to the ropes. Rihanna sponging, bobbing and weaving in the pocket, trying to clinch her way off the strands, but getting rejected. In the final seconds, a Bloodgood hook connects cleanly, AND RIHANNA TOPPLES FORWARD! Bell sounds before the ref can complete the count, but Ri’s corner is frantically trying to put their fighter together as Bloodgood makes a statement in the opening round.

R2&3: Rihanna once again tries to trade with Moon, gets thoroughly manhandled for two solid rounds. Bloodgood just old-school big girl, pinning Ri against the ropes, pounding away all heavy-handed to the body, smothering receipts, shoving off attempts to clinch. Rihanna showing signs of sturdyness as she keeps her feet through all this, but that’s the only bright spot as she’s on the fuzzy end of a three round shutout.

R4: RIHANNA COMES ROARING OUT OF THE CORNER! Ri has had enough, vicious headhunting driving Bloodgood back. Moon slipping and bobbing, sidestepping to stay off the ropes, answering back in spots but Rihanna calling the tune for the first time this fight as the veteran absorbs a terrific pounding. AND RIHANNA IS DOWN! Final half of final minute sees Bloodgood sneak a hesitation hook through Ri’s guard to send her sprawling. Rihanna pounds the mat in tear-stained frustration as Moon steals the round and steals it 10-8 to boot.

R5: Patient, methodical slugging Moon has Rihanna back on the ropes. Ri not used to being manhandled like this, not answering back. Bell-to-bell, Bloodgood on Rihanna as the veteran dominates the first half.

R6: Rihanna coming out strong, not looking to turn this thing around with pne punch anymore. Hard-hearted slugging moving Moon back, making her take punishment. Two good, solid minutes are just what the doctor ordered. AND RI’S ROCKED! Bloodgood snakes in an uppercut from her knees that sends Rihanna reeling. Heavy-handed slugging drives Rihanna back across the ring to end the round on the ropes again, as Moon steals a second Rihanna round.

R7&8: Rihanna’s broken, only offering token resistance, doing more pushing then punching as she’s inexorably bullied to the ropes. Once there, it’s only a question of how much longer those curvy legs of Ri can hold her up. She never goes down during these long minutes, but whether that’s a good thing for her is debatable at best.

R9: Rihanna finally able to start hitting back. Both women planting and pitching, rotating mid-ring as heavy handed blows fly both ways. Rihanna gambling, not trying to match Bloodgood’s volume, knowing the only chance she has left to pull this out is with a knockout. Moon playing it canny, content to trade from a position of strength instead of looking for openings that may leave herself vulnerable. Volume gives Bloodgood the round, and suddenly everybody is avoiding the word “shutout,” trying not to jinx things.

R10: Moon bouncing like a sorority girl on foxy boxing night, eager for the bell. Rihanna forts up in her corner, looking to ride out the round. Moon feints with the jab on approach, gets Ri’s guard out of position for an uppercut THAT SENDS RIHANNA SPRAWLING TO HER KNEES! Rihanna distraught, broken-hearted, but game enough to rise...she takes the beating of her young life tonight as Moon pounds away to glory. Final bell the sweetest sound both women have ever heard. MOON BLOODGOOD THE WINNER BY DECISION VIA 10 ROUNDS TO 0 SHUTOUT. Potential beating of the year candidate as Moon shovels 100 points of hurt onto Ri.

After: Bloodgood turned back from the welter title a couple years ago, now putting together convincing back to back wins, suddenly back in the thick of the division standings. Not shy about it either. “You see that Milena? You can’t hide forever!”
No eyes on Rihanna which may be just as well, she‘s utterly distraught, this may be her last fight at welter. Had some opportunities in the middle phase of this fight, but Moon could always break her momentum.
