"The New Year's Eve Body Paint Fight Night"

Before: “I’m a fighter who knows how to box.” Alana confident beforehand. “Emmanuelle couldn’t out-finesse me last month, and Adriana won’t be able to blow me out now,” she continues, referring to her squeaker of a decision against Lima’s stable-mate Emmanuelle Vaugier in November.

“Everyone who has tried to dance with me this year has regretted it,” Adriana is equally assured. “If she tries to stay on the outside, she is going to make the same discovery everyone else has.”

Alana raffled off the right to choose her paint scheme, with proceeds going to charity. The winner’s choice? The Scottish National Rugby Uniform. Alana’s quite fetching in a dark blue T-shirt and white knee-length shorts. Blue gloves, loose hair pulled back. Adriana opts to get in the spirit of things, wearing the Brazilian National Uniform. Yellow T-shirt with dark green sleeves and shoulder pads, a thin green strips running across her breasts, disappearing into the valley of her cleavage. Hair back in a ponytail, black gloves

R1: Alana probing, scouting out the Brazilian slugger. De la Garza circling, jabbing for points. Lima flat-footed, looking to land that whipsawing hook she does so well. Tactical opening, neither fighter hurt as the round draws to a close.

R2: Alana still content to circle and strafe, picking away for points. Adriana comfortable in the center, picking her moments to slug back in gun platform stance. Trade continues to bell, with de la Garza landing more, while Lima’s blows the more powerful.

R3: Now Adriana’s timing her, big spanking blows landing large. Alana’s sponging for the first time this fight, backing up, not answering back after the first minute. She manages to stay off the ropes, but is fully on the defensive as Lima cuts off the ring, crowding her way in to land ever harder blows.

R4: Alana still trying to renegotiate back on the outside, Adriana just not interested. Long minutes for de la Garza as the wheels come completely off. Lima drives her to ropes, lavishing punishment to Alana’s ribs after she forms earmuffs. De la Garza’s legs hold her up to the bell, but that’s the only bright spot.

R5: Alana sets herself, meets Adriana midring. Flatfooted, heavy handed trading the order of the day. Blue and gold torsos thoroughly worked over as fighters rotate in the center of the ring. Both heads snapped back as two-way attrition accumulates, neither fighter shy about clinching to get a few seconds respite. Hard round to score, yet another bout tied at the midway point.

Rd6: Alana commits to coming up the middle, meeting Adriana midring. Vicious exchanging of hooks to already seasoned torsos, sustained for the first minute. De la Garza puts together a combination to the solar plexus and chin AND LIMA TAKES A KNEE! Adriana takes her eight, walks into an onrushing Alana uppercut and gets BLOWN ONTO HER BACK! Lima beats the count again, blinking back tears. Ref obviously concerned but waves de la Garza back in. Not the same fight anymore, Adriana trying to cover up and ride out the round, Alana punching at will. Near the end, de la Garza finds the Brazilian’s solar plexus again, AND ADRIANA SINKS TO HER KNEES! Bell saves the sobbing Lima, who has to be helped to her stool. Dominant round for Alana, posting a 10-6 performance. Ref asks Lima if she wants to continue, but Adriana refuses the out.

R7&8: Adriana stubbornly keeps her feet, punching back when she can, but crippled to the body. Alana working her body over with vicious, stroking licks, snatching for Lima’s reserves. Adriana gloves up, head high, eyes dry, standing up to the shellack as she sponges the worst beating of her career.

R9: Adriana whipsaws a left hook to Alana’s head and DE LA GARZA‘S ROCKED! Lima does her best to followup, desperately headhunting as Alana backpedals furiously. De la Garza concedes the round, lets Adriana punch herself out, avoids contact to the bell rather than follow in Kelly Brook’s footsteps.

R10: Alana closes like a champ. Results a foregone conclusion, Adriana’s got nothing left. Pride the only thing keeping the Brazilian upright as de la Garza punishes her with hooks and crosses. Model stigma hammered out of Lima as she guts out the final round, holding herself up to the final bell. UD10 Alana de la Garza

After: Alana acknowledges Adriana’s toughness, raises her hand after the ref drops hers, bringing the crowd to their feet. She can afford to be magnanimous, we’ve never seen her so dominant against a slugger. Tale of two fights, tied at the halfway point, then Lima had the worst round of the year. Probably going to be overshadowed by the Bloodgood shutout, but De la Garza’s performance is just what the lightweight division needed, yet another prime contender.
