Before: Boxing insider can’t help but notice Alba’s choice of Britney nemesis Simpson. “it’s true Simpson’s size and strength have give Spears a lot of trouble in their meetings,” notes one anonymous nut well places source in the BSE camp, “Alba’s inviting comparison with this fight whether she admit sit or not.” Simpson as conventional as Alba is unorthodox--Dark Angel just as favored as Spears usually is in this match up--Simpson hoping to prove just as problematic. Black bandeau top, black hipster dance pants for Simpson--royal blue aerobics two piece to a high neck, Alba.

During R1: Alba using the entire ring, potshotting Simpson with swatting, rising strokes from either hand, jumping in and out from unpredictable angles at the blonde. Simpson with her hands rigid at her eyebrows--does a lot of preening and blocking but can’t pull the trigger on her nimble opponent. Shutout Alba.

R2,3: More Alba quicks--she’s faster of foot and hand, but she’s been well schooled--no standing in one place--she’s getting off first, moving her head side to side as she pulls in those swatting strokes from her hips--gloves spanking smartly off Simpson’s golden waist, full arms, top of her head, Blonde also getting things done in spots--occasionally hounding Alba to a quarter of the ring, keeping her jab between brunette breasts and lugging in a hard wide right to the shoulder or ribcage before Alba can spin out of Dodge. Brunette rounds both, but Simpson walking through the Alba punching, trying to get herself in range for a sustained bombardment.

R4: Jessica really digging at Simpson belly--brunette carrying her hands low and really ripping away at the trunk line with slashing mitts--blonde stopping her advance, stooping forward--Alba sells her on the walk away, then jumps in a sudden right hand on the ear that has Simpson steppin’ funky. Alba sniping and cuffing the rest of the way, content to dip in, get her touch, then get out, rather than risk trading by heaping on the for the stoppage, Result is Simpson getting chewed up, but able to get her legs and bearings back--Alba in control though 4 but not taking the chances necessary to get blonde Jessica out of there.

R5: Simpson takes her first round--showing solid fundamentals in outboxing the flashier brunette. Thumping jab between the breasts backs Alba up, disrupts her timing. Hard right hand misses as Alba’s head movement is too good, but Simpson’s heavy comeback hook is bashing hard against Alba’s right side. Brunette a little too leggy for judges liking this round--clearly running at points as blonde catches a second wind.

R6: Alba really embarrassing Simpson with hand speed this round. Dark Angel stepping to her right, keeping Simpson off with clever shoulder feints and fake lunges, THEN jumping in when Simpson thinks it’s safe. Midway through, Alba with rangy whippy left t the breadbasket, pivots around the hook to the left with a graceful glide step and beats Simpson to a gorgeous right hand on the mouth. Blonde’s feet square, badly balanced--surprise shot just enough to send her staggering backwards, finally raking a seat at the ropes. Simpson up and blushing--Alba grinning and taunting, Jessica A closes out the round with some nice Too Sharp Johnson side to side power punching--standing right in front of Simpson at the ropes, dipping right to snap to the left, dipping left to pull in the right--Simpson taking clean on the face as she can’t land the receipts.

R7,8: Competitive rounds to the extent that Simpson’s taking a good shot, managing to come forward, and landing when she throws--but she’s not throwing nearly enough to take these rounds, Alba consistently turning Jessica S’s left flank, circling away from he blonde’s big right hand and putting slinging power punches onto Simpson I clocking, loose limbed bursts.

R9: Simpson takes another stanza--she can get Alba off her game with that battering ram jab in the chest, score with right hands to the ribs and threaten with a compact hook uptop that Alba has to cover up against, Jessica A doing a nice job of keeping her back off the ropes, but once again crossing the line between boxing and running as Simpson looks the aggressor.

R10: Clean shutout Jessica Alba. Alba able to punch Simpson in the face with either hand before the blonde can even flinch--testament to brunette’s uncanny hands and Simpson’s stubborn chin. Round consists of Simpson brazenly walking in, getting cuffed 3 or 4 swatting, picturesque punches, then Alba calmly pivoting to her right, backing off, creating distance and letting the blonde come to her. At the bell, Alba gets in Simpson’s face, moving to prevent the blonde from passing and forcing eye contact. Comes back UD10 Jessica Alba.

After: Nice boxing win for Alba as she stings Simpson on occasion but basically fight smart, shows some respect fot the bigger girl’s heft by keeping in constant motion, potshot ting and getting out of there before two way trade can develop. Simpson glum and mopy in defeat--she’s always too hard on herself when beaten. Alba giddy with triumph--she’s maybe a little too considering the comp. When asked if she intended to slap Britney’s face with this fight, Alba replies, “Not at all. Britney spent a lot of time breaking down tape with me and helping me defeat Simpson’s style. Personally, I think Britney may have ruined Jessica--I’m sure that’s why I had a much easier time of it than Brit has had.”
