Brief rundown of best bits from 2012 season. This is my totally personal and VERY biased list (Winners of each bout listed first). Yes, some names repeat themselves and it's not a coincidence! For neutral reasons I've excluded all the fights involving LCA's roster.
FIGHT OF THE YEAR: Vaneesa Hudgens vs Michelle Williams V (2nd November 2012). The fifth but possibly not last battle of this fiercly contested duel. Michelle loses her top and has to blame wardrobe malfunction to explain this loss but Nessa is totally in her head now.
Natalie Portman vs Ashley Tisdale II (2nd November 2012). Tisdale ends Pax Portmanica in shocking fashion in March but suffers a brutal reality check when the veteran comes back six months later and stamps her authority over one of the most eager of youngsters. Portman spanks away the wolves and prevents following Williams' path vs Hudgens.
Adrianne Palicki vs Missy Peregrym (10th June 2012) My favorite P4P contender grinds out a famous win over the strongest lightweight outright. Palicki's prospects looked great until Rachel Nichols spiked her in the liver and retained the title. But nobody can survive a proper liver attack, even the best of P4P contenders. Nonetherless Palicki vs Peregrym in light is what Regan vs Righetti is in welter. The perfect match-up at the top of the pile. Throw in Decker and Biel and we've got the real Clash of the Titans. Will that ever happen with these four at the same time in the same place?
KNOCKOUT OF THE YEAR: Mary Elizabeth Winstead vs Yvonne Strahovski V (5th May 2012) Brunette claims blonde's scalp as Mary wins four out of five against a hatred rival with a flush hook that sends Strahovski to the floor.
Jessica Biel vs Missy Peregrym (23rd July 2012) The strongest lightweight per se gets knocked out after Biel sends in a flurry of punches and leaves Missy dazed and counting sheep. If there is anyone capable of challenging Righetti for P4P honors it's Biel even solely based on this one fight.
BEATDOWN OF THE YEAR: Maria Menounos vs Laura Vandervoort (5th May 2012) Vandervoort's future in lightweight looked safe by all accounts until Maria Menounos came from nowhere and beat the living daylights out of her to force her down to bantam in one of the most shocking turn of events in 2012. Since then Laura hasn't lost a single fight in bantam but a brief return to light saw her lose again, against Holly Valance. Menounos has written her name in the FCBA record books, very rarely a single fight leads to such dramatic changes.
Jennifer Lawrence vs Mary Elizabeth Winstead (24th March 2012) Four rounds of proud blonde beating the crap out of an equally proud brunette is probably Tess Valmore's midnight summer dream. The only reason why this isn't ranked as the top beatdown of the year is the fact Winstead didn't last as long as Vandervoort.
Minka Kelly vs Jennifer Love Hewitt (5th May 2012) Hewiit lost a best of seven to Cuthbert but it was the beatdown suffered at the hands of Minka Kelly that really shocked me with Jennifer's jugs taking some of the most vicious punishment ever seen. Hewitt's upset win over Campbell for the bantam crown was only a false down afterwards, Minka claimed more than just the pride stakes with her tremendous punchout of Hewitt.
UPSET OF THE YEAR: Paula Patton vs Amanda Righetti I (24th March 2012) A late blooming newcomer knocks out a P4P most serious contender to turn a milion of heads and then some. What else is there to say? Patton might not win a match in FCBA again and and has since then lost a rematch with Righetti but that one result will be as good as Buster Douglas' upset over Iron Mike.
Ashley Tisdale vs Natalie Portman I (24th March 2012) Pax Portmanica has just overcome the more intimidating rivals in Scerbo, Danes and Panattiere when a cannon fodder was thrown onto the tracks and derailed the Portman train. In less then two rounds! Since then Portman has avenged that loss but all a little too late to keep the Pax in tact. A great chance for the longest reign in modern FCBA history goes begging thanks to one Ashley Tisdale.
Joanne Kelly vs Daniela Ruah (25th January 2012) Destined to be one of the stars of the future both in light and welter suffers a shocking stoppage on late-blooming Joanne Kelly's debut. Remains Ruah's only loss in the past fifteen months.
DISAPPOINTEMENT OF THE YEAR: Jennifer Lawrence touted as the next bext thing after Charlize Theron. Let's make no mistake here. I'm a big fan of Theron, I can see why Ginny wants to find a proper replacement for the Goddess but I just can't fill in with Lawrence thus far. I've got a more suitable pick and wish for her to surpass Lawrence in the future and maybe achieve at least half of what Theron did. I've mentioned the name before. She's married to a tennis player. No prize for figuring it out, folks. And good luck for Lawrence anyway, she's a good prospect but just not as good as some think she is. Unless she repeats that destruction of Winstead time and time again to prove me wrong! |
