BEFORE:
NOVEMBER 10, 2011:
O'Dell: "Perry rocked on the ropes! Ellison a right to the side of the head, straight left hand...BIG RIGHT HOOK AND DOWN GOES PERRY!"
McCarthy: "She's not getting up from that one!"
O'Dell: "Count at seven. Eight. Nine. TEN! IT'S OVER! YOUR WINNER BY KO6, JENNIFER ELLISON!"
TODAY:
"I have no problems with Jen," says a smiling Katy. "She cleaned my clock last time, yeah. All credit to her. But it wasn't personal. And, this time, things will be different. And THAT won't be personal either."
"I like Katy," says Jen, smiling as well. "And I'm glad to know it's mutual. And I hope it stays that way after I do what I have to do tonight."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'California Gurls' and that can only mean that 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry, is on her way to ringside."
McCarthy: "Perry another girl with a lot of physical tools who might develop into something special if she had REAL trainers..."
Tess: "Unlike the two Hall Of Famers and the hundred-fight veteran she works with at Front Street..."
McCarthy: "Go ahead and defend Weirdo, Walmart! We all know you can be BOUGHT..."
Tess: "Says the woman who gets paid to STRIP..."
McCarthy: "When you're THIS hot, it would be a crime against humanity not to share it with the public!"
O'Dell: "Speaking of hot, Perry into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal that red number, which leaves SOMETHING to the imagination, if not much..."
Tess: "And has a lot of imaginations running wild, I'll bet..."
McCarthy: "I know THAT one! That's 'Don't Fear The Reaper' by Blue Oyster Cult!"
Tess: "For the fans at home, not surprised Mac knew that, since it's from HER day, the SEVENTIES!"
McCarthy: "I was FOUR when this came out!"
Tess: "Just a few years younger than my MOMMA..."
McCarthy: "Get READY, boys! SHUT IT, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "For those still conscious, Jennifer Ellison making her way down to this tune. Jennifer, of course, representing Beever's Babes. Ellison climbs into the ring, helped off with the robe to reveal a dark pink number that's doing something for some imaginations as well. Ladies about ready to go. Tess already on record as favoring Katy. What do you think, Mac?"
McCarthy: "I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but Ellison beat Perry once. She can do it again. And I think she will!"
O'Dell: "Let's find out. There's the bell and IT'S ON! Perry and Ellison trading big shots immediately...AND JEN RINGS KATY UP! ELLISON DRIVES PERRY BACK INTO THE ROPES AND GOES TO WORK..."
McCarthy: "Ridiculous! A strong, quick, athletic kid like Perry just running out to the center of the ring and brawling!"
O'Dell: "Ellison pounding away along the ropes. Katy covering up, doing just enough to keep the referee at bay. Jen is all in here trying to end this...AND PERRY LANDS A BIG RIGHT AND JENNIFER'S HURT!"
McCarthy: "What's going on out there? This fight doesn't belong in a ring it belongs..."
Tess: "In a BAR, Mac?"
McCarthy: "Shut it, Walmart!"
O'Dell: "Perry driving Ellison across the ring and now turning the tables on the opposite ropes! Kat whacking heavy leather into Jen's head and body, looking for the 'off' switch! Ellison covering up and hanging on. Referee looking closely...there's the bell! A wild first has the crowd on its feet and cheering as the ladies go back to their corners."
Tess: "I'm calling that one even..."
McCarthy: "Agreed. 10-10 after one."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Didn't look like we were going to make a second round, but here we are and the ladies are back to work. Perry showing a bit more movement now, using the left hand, hooking body with the right. Ellison responding, putting punches together herself. Good, back and forth stuff, Mac."
McCarthy: "A lot more disciplined this round. Both got a talking to in their corners, no doubt."
O'Dell: "Both girls remaining busy, but showing a lot more care and a lot less wildness. Ellison having success with her right hand, scoring points off the left jab. Katy even more effective, landing in combination, spending time both upstairs and down."
Tess: "Perry works body a lot more now than she did earlier in her career. I suspect that's the influence of one of her Hall of Fame trainers..."
McCarthy: "Does Campbell pay you off, TOO, Walmart?"
O'Dell: "Perry and Ellison looking for a payoff themselves. Both working hard right to the bell. Good round, but I think Katy got more done."
McCarthy: "Agreed."
Tess: "Which puts Perry up 20-19 through two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third round begins with Perry looking to work that left hand again. Ellison changing levels now, working out of a bit of a crouch, high guard, looking to crowd Perry, getting off to the body inside."
McCarthy: "Interesting strategy by Jennifer. Katy's got the edge in reach and she was getting comfortable at middle distances last round, so Ellison wants to work in tight. Clearly she has people who KNOW something in her corner, unlike Perry..."
O'Dell: "Katy going body even more now in close quarters. Ellison banging back downstairs. Lots of leather smacking flesh, Mac!"
McCarthy: "Both of these girls can hit, and if they both commit to the body like they're doing now, you're going to see more than a little attrition."
O'Dell: "And both ladies seem determined to wear the other down as they hook body in tight right up to the bell."
McCarthy: "Fairly close round, but I think Jen got the better of it."
Tess: "And she's evened the fight at 29 after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Into the fourth now and Ellison out of that quarter crouch working in close. The two girls slugging in a phone booth now, tangled up, clinching and shoving."
McCarthy: "I used to love rounds like this. Just get inside and brawl and wrestle around with a girl. Really impose my will on her physically..."
O'Dell: "And Katy now backs Jennifer up with a pair of solid hooks. Katy getting the left hand going, working the right off it again. Ellison being forced to back and cover."
McCarthy: "People forget how big a light Katy is. She's 5'8" and walks around at 130 or a little above. She's a full light and can be very physical, and that's what she's doing right now. Forcing Jennifer back to middle range, and that favors Perry."
O'Dell: "Ellison stubborn and tough, making Katy fight hard for every inch of canvas, but Perry's slowly taking it, thumping away to the body with big hooks and STICKING that left jab to the head. Ellison firing back in spots, but Katy's in control to the bell."
Tess: "And she's back in the lead, 39-38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth round of what's been a good one is underway and Perry with a solid combination! And Jennifer answers right back with one of her own!"
McCarthy: "The crowd is loving it, Jenny! These two really going at it again like in the first round!"
O'Dell: "Ellison refusing to be suppressed by Katy's heavy fire! The blonde giving as good as she's getting here. Putting everything into some heavy leather of her own! Perry SLAMMING a right to the body off a hook to the head! Neither woman taking a step back or slowing down!"
McCarthy: "In fact, they're turning the heat up even more. Both looking to impose will, Jenny, but neither one of them will punk!"
O'Dell: "Crowd on their feet again as the round winds down. Ellison sends sweat flying with a right hand and Perry finally backs her up a step with a solid one-two at the bell!"
McCarthy: "Eyes locked! Neither girl going back to her corner! Referee in between them to send them on their respective ways. I LOVE it! No back down in either of them!"
Tess: "Perry's round close, Mac?"
McCarthy: "That's the way I scored it."
Tess: "Which puts Katy up 49-47."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Into the sixth now and Perry right back at Ellison! Jennifer banging back but Perry forcing her to back up and cover up now! Heavy leather from the brunette has Jennifer in a slow retreat!"
McCarthy: "Remember what I said about how big Katy is. She could fight welter if she wanted to. She's got size on Ellison, and she's using it pretty well right now!"
O'Dell: "Jennifer trying to rally, but Katy having none of it, going body then working her way upstairs, breaking through Jennifer's defenses, forcing her to give ground. Ellison trying to circle and stay off the ropes, but Perry using those quick feet to cut her off and corner her..."
McCarthy: "Ellison tying up, wants out of there, but Perry punching free and putting more leather into Ellison's body."
O'Dell: "Jennifer trying to punch her way out, but Katy not backing up. Ellison covering up now! Trying to counter a bit, but mostly just absorbing. They're right above us and you can hear the thump of Perry's gloves landing in Jennifer's ribs. And there's the bell ending round six, and a sweeter sound Ms. Ellison may never have heard!"
Tess: "Best round of the fight for Katy, who's now up 59-56."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Seventh begins with another scintillating exchange! Both ladies landing crisp stuff! Perry thumping the body again. Ellison concentrating upstairs, back in that quarter crouch, hands up high, working inside Katy's left and hooking away when she's in position."
McCarthy: "That high guard picking off some of the stuff Perry's throwing upstairs and the crouch giving her less to hit downstairs."
O'Dell: "Perry still finding the mark, but the blonde more than holding her own in close, using nifty little hooks to the ribs and the side of the head. Getting into a rhythm."
McCarthy: "Perry needs to move her feet more and get some distance. Katy's scoring, but this is the fight Jen wants. Perry's letting Ellison dictate terms."
O'Dell: "And that's what Jen's doing right now. Angling, slipping punches, picking off others. And getting some good work done to the bell."
Tess: "Not a runaway in any sense, but Jen got the better of that one."
McCarthy: "And it was an important round. She's narrowed it to 68-66 with three to go."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Back to action in round eight, and Ellison out of that quarter crouch looking to close with Katy. Perry using the left jab upstairs and the right hook to the body. Jen slipping in close to get back to snapping those hooks."
McCarthy: "Got to like the way Ellison is pressuring here. Not hurried, just working for points, looking for a big one, but not forcing it..."
O'Dell: "KATY WITH A RIGHT UPPERCUT AND ELLISON IS ROCKED! Katy right between the gloves and Jen's knees did a shimmy! Perry getting to work now banging home that straight left, backing Ellison up. Jen now leaning forward and clinching, tying Perry up..."
McCarthy: "Good strategy. Legs aren't there. She doesn't want to go back to the ropes."
O'Dell: "Katy trying to shove and punch free. Able to land one here and there, but Jen intent on tying up and running clock."
McCarthy: "Nothing pretty about what Ellison's doing, but this isn't about style points. It's about getting to :00 while you're still on your feet."
O'Dell: "That's what Jen's about and that's what she's done. There's the bell and the round was all Katy, but the blonde lives to fight another round."
Tess: "But her margin for error is nil at this point. 78-75 with two to go. She'll need something big."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "Six minutes left in what's been an action-packed bout, and Ellison undeterred by Katy's big punch last round is right back to that crouch and working inside Katy's reach. Perry going body again in tight..."
McCarthy: "One thing for Jen, she's got a heck of a body to be able to take the pounding she's gotten downstairs and keep coming."
O'Dell: "And coming she is. A good left-right from Jen, a short left from Katy...RIGHT HOOK, ELLISON WOBBLES PERRY!"
McCarthy: "That's the one she was looking for!"
O'Dell: "Jen quickly letting the hands go! Katy covering up, now taking a page out of Ellison's book and clinching. Jen wrestling free and banging a short left home before being tied up again."
McCarthy: "Again, nothing pretty, but all you want to do is run clock."
O'Dell: "And Jen knows the clock is ticking. She's wrestling and shoving, throwing whenever she can get a hand free. Katy wrapping her head, pulling it down, smacking short rights into Jen's body with her free hand as Jen shoves her off, lands a left before Katy ties up again and there's the bell."
McCarthy: "A smart play from Perry. One of the things you learn as you gain experience is how to survive a round when you get in trouble. Katy hasn't always shown she knows how to do that, but she showed it then.
Tess: "Jen gets the round to tighten things up a bit. 87-85 with two to go."
ROUND TEN:
O'Dell: "Tenth and final, barring overtime, of course, is underway, and Jennifer Ellison looking to follow up on her big ninth round back to pressuring Perry. Katy giving some ground here...AND FLOORS ELLISON WITH A RIGHT HOOK ON THE WAY IN!"
McCarthy: "Don't bother counting! Caught her right on the cheek!"
O'Delll: "Perry to a neutral corner. Referee's count to four. Five. Six. Seven...Ellison to her feet!"
McCarthy: "Wow. Kid's got more guts than enough. Didn't think she'd get up from that..."
O'Dell: "Referee gives her the mandatory and he's going to let it continue. And here comes Katy! Perry letting a blizzard of leather go! Driving Ellison back to the ropes and getting to work on that body!"
Tess: "Is this a good strategy, Mac? Katy's got this fight won. Why not run clock?"
McCarthy: "Because when you've got a girl in trouble, you FINISH her!"
O'Dell: "And that's what Katy's all about, banging hard shots off Jennifer's high guard, buffeting her head side to side, then going downstairs to hammer the body and bring the guard down. Perry administering a savage beatdown along the ropes."
McCarthy: "This must be the guy I had against Campbell! Reacts on a stoppage like Tim Conway's Old Man did on 'The Carol Burnette Show'..."
O'Dell: "Referee is looking closely as Jen covers up, but Ellison doing just enough with a few counters. Katy a BIG LEFT-RIGHT AND ANOTHER RIGHT THAT SENDS ELLISON REELING...AND THERE'S THE BELL!"
McCarthy: "Oh, FOR..."
O'Dell: "They ARE going to hug it out, Mac, and after that one, I don't blame them! A crowd-pleasing, action-packed fight, and there's no doubt about the decision, especially after that 10-8 final round. The winner by UD10, 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I've got our winner, Katy Perry, and Katy a big win for you..."
Katy: "Yeah, it was. I'll be the first to admit I was terrible against Kurylenko. And, the last time I had a fight like that, it sent me into a spiral. I was determined not to let that happen this time. I needed to get right back on track, so getting the win tonight was very important."
Tess(smiling): "Mac thinks you can fight welter. What do you think about that?"
Katy(smiling): "I fight where my management tells me. But, I think Jenny's right."
