BEFORE: Can Meester really be ready for the upper-echelons at bantam? "That's the question, isn't it?" Rachel says in prefight. "We've all seen this girl progress as a fighter, but I don't think anyone really knows her quality yet. She's on a hot streak, THAT we know, but hot streaks end, and girls go back to baseline eventually, and I just don't know if Leighton's really on the same level as me or some of the other top girls. I do think there's a certain amount of illusion here, but I can't afford to discount her entirely. I'll fight Leighton the way I'd go after Dushku or whoever, and we'll see how she deals with it."

Meester champing at the bit: a Rachel McAdams fight unimaginable not so long ago for Leighton...she's really riding a meteor these days. "The only people who wonder if I'm on Rachel's level is Rachel, Foxfire, and Rachel's fans. EVERYBODY ELSE knows I'm the total package: Minka's will; Elisa's hitting power; Leighton's CPU! Once I cut this girl down, it's going to be a whole new era at bantam, and don't forget, I can still make flyweight when I need to...I could conceivably dominate all of boxing from 120 on down!"

Brisk, biting back and forth - girls occasionally pinging jabs while stepping around to regroup, but for the most part, they're stepping in/tidying up - each girl crouching/bobbing in compact, elbows-in configuration. Leighton hopping away with a confident, business-like smile...pretty confident she's nipped Rache for points in a hotly contested first.

R2: Rache giving Leigh a little of what Meester gave Cuthbert...McAdams roaming to her right, touching the jab to get Leighton into defensive earmuff; RIPPING hooks loud to waistline in under Leighton's protective elbow; BOUNCING right hands off waist; scraping right uppercuts off Leighton's guard as she's stooping forward all grimacing and rocked. Meester turning, turning, unable to answer back...Rachel thick and methodical, planting weight on the front (left) leg; popping hips-right to sink in vicious, thudding hooks...then tidying up while stepping counterclockwise, keeping Meester bunched up.

R3: Same again - Rache content to punish the waistline midring - stepping clockwise to turn her girl - keeping Leighton covered up with pesky jabs or scraping right uppercuts off the guard. Meester gritting teeth behind her mitts, trudging bravely forward, but visibly cramping up sinks hooks in under right elbow. Occasionally, Rachel mixes things up by flashing a little left uppercut to guard, then digging in left uppercut BEHIND right elbow, hoping for liver. Good bell to bell drubbing handed out, Rachel to Leighton...McAdams thick and methodical about her ingenue's torso through 3.

R4: Oh that sneaky Leighton! She shows distressed face, shying away like she doesn't want any more Rachel...McAdams wades on in Big-Girl - walks into a sudden palm-down straight right sloped down into breadbasket! RACHEL'S HURT! Stabbing punch has redhead baby-steppin'/covering up earmuff...Leighton's turn to dish the punishment. Meester roaming to her right with hands loosely grouped at chest...she'll step in on front (left) leg; RIP that thick, short left hook in behind right elbow; punch a short right down across Rachel's raised guard; hook the belly; reef a wide sidearm right chop in above left hip, then stoop to get left shoulder under Rachel's guard, bumping into her to turn her clockwise. Masterful stuff - Leighton punishes her redhead, beating Rmac thick amidships, bumping and bossing her around like a little champ through 4.

R5: Rachel roaming out with the same look and tempo - selling "methodical body snatching" with her aspect...stiff one-two up top takes Leighton by surprise, buckling her knees as Rachel scores flush to face. Leighton sputtering, feet unsteady, hands pawing out front: sweeping wide right slams to a halt on jaw, sending Meester sputtering out of orbit - reeling to her right! Meester trying to form up on apron: Rachel walking her down...stiff-punching ratatat series of straight lefts and rights shreds Meester's facial guard, punching her head back/draping her in swoon along ropes. Rachel jabbing face while shifting position to an angle off Leighton's right hip: chopping sidearm right takes Leighton thick to paunch as Rachel crowds in close inside Meester's right shoulder. Brunette groaning, stacked up straight when she wants to double over: Rachel pushes off; hooks the ribcage while shifting to her right; drops a tasty right hand across Leighton's chin from close range and MEESTER GOES DOWN! Leighton belted out on her feet, toppling face-first into canvas with hands trapped beneath her...she's all KO'd deadweight as Rachel struts away the KO5 victrix.

AFter: McAdams getting a hearty hug from Sarah Carter...Carter a principal architect of the Meester-busting fight plan Foxfire eventually signed off on. "Sarah has a lot of experience against Leighton, so I leaned on her quite a bit for this fight," McAdams graciously acknowledges in postfight. "You know...I felt her to the body - she can hit a bit, but she's not devastating. I can see how she hurt Elisha, but me? I just don't think Leighton had the firepower to go right at me like that. Honestly, I thought she'd try to box more, but I think she's been switching girls off lately, and she's developed a taste for it...you can get drunk on KO power when you start dropping people, but you have to keep it in perspective. The fight I'd love to see? Leighton and Summer Glau. That seems like a fight between two over-achievers who might bring out the best in one another. Going to the next level with someone like me? Probably not a good idea for Meester just yet!"
