BBU: Denise Lewis Down Under Tour

(Downunder Boxing vs Beever's Babes)

Denise has come out of retirement for a second time – her last comeback ended when she was brutally beaten up by Gena Lee Nolin, but she’s in Australia, where she won her Olympic gold medal, and she wants to fight Erika Heynatz for the BBU welterweight title. But first, she has to get past Michelle Bridges, and the tough Australian is more than ready for her.

Into the ring they come, Michelle first in a black bikini, then Denise in an orange bikini, and they look well matched, these two women, Denise at 40, and Michelle at 42.

Round 1

These two big girls start at a fierce rate, and they’re both landing some good punches – Denise has got her right hook working well, with Michelle countering, punching Denise with either hand as the round progresses. Denise isn’t defending well, but she attacks Michelle, and she starts to put her punches together by the middle of the round, popping Michelle’s head back with neat, straight jabbing, and the Australian backs off, her defence not looking too good as she flaps at Denise, who pushes her backwards, gets her stuck on the ropes as she looks like she’s tiring in the closing seconds, and Denise is giving Michelle a real whupping to her ribs at the bell, a bell which is greeted by cheers from the British sector of the audience.

Round 2

Michelle’s slowing the tempo right down, clinching and holding, turning the fight into a brawl and wrestling Denise around the ring. Denise is looking at the referee for support, but he’s letting Michelle get away with these tactics, and the Brit’s on the ropes as the round moves into the second half, getting some heavy punishment to her belly and flanks, but she turns Michelle nicely, and lands a good combination to her face, only to eat a lashing hook from the older girl, who returns Denise to the ropes, then cracks more punches into her body. The shots are ripping into Denise from short range, and she can’t get the room she needs to counter, Michelle’s brawling making her less effective in this round.

Round 3

Denise is trying not to get into a brawl this time, and she’s using her legspeed to keep Michelle at arm’s length, delivering some good, battering punches to the Australian’s face again, and Michelle’s backing away, like she did in the opening round. Denise is stinging Michelle with her left hand, and she’s beginning to hurt her with her right – so much so that Michelle’s not offering as much resistance as she was earlier, and her left cheek’s starting to bruise up as Denise hits her with two successive hooks, then a left to her body. Michelle’s going for the clinch again, but Denise isn’t getting in close, hits her again and again, and Michelle’s backed up in a corner, gloves upside her face, with Denise bouncing punches off her ribcage.

Round 4

After getting a bad reaction from her fans to her effort (or lack of it) in round 3, Michelle moves better at the start of round 4, and she’s sending some punches at Denise’s face – but back comes Denise! She’s hooking Michelle to the face, left, right, and right, another left, and Michelle looks in trouble – she misses Denise with an attempted left hook of her own, and she’s getting battered again, another left hook smacking into her jaw, another right joining it, and Michelle’s on her back, the referee counting. She’s getting up, on her haunches, but drops back to her butt, and lays back again as the count passes 10.

Result: Denise Lewis knocked Michelle Bridges out in round 4.

Denise looks happy, smiling, parading around the ring – but is she good enough to bother Erika Heynatz? She has one more warmup fight planned, then we’ll find out!
