The Main Event of the Echo Arena card features the welterweight title eliminator with current BBU champion Erika Heynatz watching the fight Down Under after knocking out Denise Lewis in her latest defence. The Liverpool crowd hope for a successful finish with Merseyside's own Alex Curran (Lioness Club) taking on a fellow blonde model Nicola McLean (PageThrees).

Alex Curran missed a chance of securing welter title back in October of 2011 already when she lost to then-champion Sabrina Washington and spend the following year chasing another shot. She lost to Jaye Jacobs at the start of the year which seemingly proved to be another setback but with McLean VERY keen to bust her up, there she is just one fight away from getting a second title bout of her career.

Meanwhile Nicola McLean's only defeat of her career - a one point duke to Tamsin Egerton back in August - meant she missed a chance of fighting Heynatz few months ago already and now wants to make up for that flaw. With Hayley McQueen making a strong foray into the welter division things have fallen the PageThrees' veteran way in just the right time cause some BBU pundits believe McQueen might be even better than McLean! However that's up for another day to be settled as the night belongs to Curran and McLean first. Both blondes visibly hate each other and shout abuse during the introductions with some early slaps being thrown already and the referee doesn't bother with the gloves touching cause it's not gonna happen no matter what. Let's get it on! Crowd chants "You'll Never Walk Alone" and Anfield Road's living legend Steven Gerrard - Alex's husband - is there in the VIP lounge to witness his wife dishing out some leather against the London-based opponent.

Round 1:
McLean has a reputation of being one of the biggest punchers in BBU, even bigger than Curran, and she looks to confirm those creditentials early by peppering Alex's guard but the Merseyside favorite stands firm, doesn't yield an inch and counters over the top as both girls really don't waste any time in the ring. Nicola dekes to the left, works the single hand around the head but can't break through her rival's defence and steps back as Alex keeps her focus and circles around her but the feeling out proccess continues with McLean lashing out a couple of jabs on the body and jumping away again. Alex moves onto the front foot, searches a clean strike herself but misses a hooking attempt and gets nailed under the elbow as Nicola puffs at her and shakes her head making the blonde hair fly around her face. Curran squares up to her, crashes off the gloves and seeks a clinch but gets laced on the ribcage and leaps back to see out the clock.

Round 2:
Second attempt of "You'll Never Walk Alone" goes around the Echo Arena and the crowd roars upon Curran's charge who beats her rival for pace and smacks a couple of juicy hooks on the cheeks forcing McLean to cover up briefly. Alex follows up, slams a series on the ribs but an overhand counter nails her on the mouth and Nicola refuses to yield, throws a chaotic combo on the head herself, skims off the gloves but gets one in on the temple and halts the local model's attacks as both girls step back to catch some break. Nicola keeps the single hand working, forces Alex to deke around it and seek low efforts but the buxom glamour model shows exceptional agility and makes Curran cut through the air which might have resulted in some laughter from the crowd but not at this venue. Curran sends a series to the ribs in the final minute as Nicola dropped her fancy footwork and got caught out but another overhand cracks Alex's guard and snaps her head back. First signs of anger appear on the Merseyside girl's face but she tries to pummel through the arms anyway late in the going, cracks one hook on Nicola's jugs but bell brings her charge to a close as the crowd demands more chest maulling: "Wreck her tits! Wreck her tits!"

Round 3:
Nicola's oversized cleavage is an obvious target for any girl fighting her but the record indicates otherwise with just a single loss on McLean's resume and Alex struggles to damage the biggest pride of the London-based blonde as she crashes off the gloves and eats another hook on the counter which forces her to step away. Nicola jumps after her straight away and that seemingly catches the Liverpool girl off guard as another flying hook spikes her on the nose before she can raise her arms up but McLean rains punches anyway and pushes the stunned foe to the ropes where she whacks more leather on the ribs and that silences the crowd a bit with Stevie G. up on his feet in the VIP lounge. Heavy shots from the London blonde, she shrugs off Alex's clinching efforts, whips a piercing uppercut between the arms and connects with the chin. Right hand follow-up on the temple and Curran sways on her feet, finally manages to clinch in the dying seconds but Nicola punches the air in delight after the bell as she knows that round was hers much to the crowd's dismay.

Round 4:
Curran charges out of her corner and whacks McLean on the body early, but can't reach for the chest and struggles to avoid those counter shots as Nicola lands another overhand on the eye and sends a follow up on the stomach. She outworks Alex in close range and peppers her ribs with ferocious intensity, one has to wonder if she's simply stronger of the two with Curran back on defence, covering up but eating leather around the elbows. She finally cracks an overhand left herself and nails Nicola on the cheek but an uppercut follows from the PageThrees blonde and that slices Alex on the jaw again and rocks her briefly. Left hand on the eye and Alex sags back, escapes to the ropes and McLean turns on the vulture mode, slowly walks Curran down and teases her by dropping the arms and shaking her torso. Alex refuses to step in and can't beat the fellow blonde for pace, crashes off the gloves and has to duck under a flying hook before finally clinching McLean in the final seconds and ref has to separate both girls at the bell with Nicola looking much happier of the two.

Round 5:
Alex still hasn't really threatened her rival so far but goes for another attack, skips under a counter hook for the first time and slices a combo on the tummy, whacks an uppercut on the jugs and rocks Nicola's chest with a fine follow-up which gets the crowd roaring again. Nicola just doesn't step back though, but she can't stretch her elbows for once and gets nailed with an overhand hook on the chin before a follow-up from the right cleans out her temple. Nicola's hair flies around but that's because of her foe's efforts now and Alex seeks the breakthrough, leans on the buxom rival, sends more shots on the midsection and finally Nicola has to step back but gets tagged by another quick hook on the cheeks which cuts her up and causes a small bleeding. Stevie G. noticed that one and gets on his feet again applauding his wife whereas Nicola wipes off the blood and seemingly can't believe that Alex really cut her up! She launches a quick attack herself but the rush of blood to the head relieves her of the common sense and she throws a jabbing series on the guard and gets countered on the fly... left hand from Curran on the eye, right on the temple and Nicola rocks to the side, stumbles in wake of another charge from her foe and eats a series on the jugs... falls back on the ropes and soaks up chest punishment as Curran finds her range, rocks the breasts again and signs off the round with a quick hook on the cheek that opens Nicola's eyes for good and the PageThrees' corner is busy with patching up that wound during the interval as the crowd roars in delight.

Round 6:
It was a big round for Alex last time around but she needs to build on her presence. She jumps straight off the bell and jabs to the body however Nicola looks unmoved after some work done on her cheek wound. She answers the call and both girls get involved in a vicious leather trading, a lethal tactics for any welter bout. Alex snaps Nicola's head back with a fine hook, eats a left hand on the counter though which slams her on the eye. She wobbles forward just as Nicola wobbles backwards herself and both women wrap each others' arms around with Alex driving forward and pushing the London blonde to the ropes. They finally come to rest on the ropes and collide with each others rack but Curran sends more low jabs on the tummy and looks her rival deep in the eye as Nicola's right hand gets trapped with Curran shoving her to the corner post. More nasty tactics from the local girl who just leans on her rival and presses her back against the post but the ref doesn't do anything here and more low jabs from the right catch Nicola on the ribs which makes her moan in pain but she just can't escape from the dangerous position. Angry screams from the PageThrees' corner... ignored... Curran nearly headbutts McLean on the nose and seems to enjoy trapping her along the post.. is this WWE here or BBU? Crowd doesn't mind though as well as the man in charge and Nicola just has to wait for the bell while Alex slams more shots on her ribcage and there's a severe swelling on the London blonde's ribs as she walks back to her stool. She's absolutely furious by Alex's behaviour in this round but also clearly hurting as well..

Round 7:
More chants from the crowd before the seventh and Nicola looks uneasy on her feet with Alex finally being able to match her and even beat for pace as she springs after the PageThrees model and lands an overhand hook on the mouth, follows up with more jabs on the hurting ribcage and that forces Nicola to yelp in pain. Alex notices her chances, works around the midsection and McLean has to force a clinch. Now it's time for some blatant tactics from the London girl but referee is quick to jump between the girls and shoves Nicola away. Another chance for Curran, she squares up to her rival in the middle of the ring, McLean refuses to step back and throws a right hand on the eye, eats a left on the nose and both girls yelp in pain now... More leather-trading ensues as Nicola works the overhand jabs on the head and whacks her rival on the cheeks, Curran responds with ribcage pounding but gets rocked with a left hook on the mouth and steps back catching some respite. Nicola circles around her but is happy to run down the clock too. It's getting physical now in the ring with both fighters looking to save some energy for a late push and the round concludes in a rare low-key fashion. The crowd is all behind Curran and Stevie G. looks confident of his wife's success. But it will be a gruesome grindfest in the last three rounds according to most of the experts. Still anyone's for the taking...

Round 8:
Both girls careful and laid back at the start but the crowd urges Alex to step in more aggressively and she responds... quick leap towards McLean and she slams a couple of hooks on the tummy, leans forward... Nicola counters in trademark fashion... right hand money shot on the chin!!! Loud scream from the Merseyside blonde and she wobbles heavily on her feet as McLean lands the follow-up on the nose and has the fellow blonde clinching at her straight away... uppercut in between and Curran's head snaps back in close range and all of the sudden it's Nicola laying heavy leather on her foe's face... another uppercut on the jaw and Alex screams out in pain again which catches the audience's attention... She's visibly stunned but Nicola throws and lands another hook on the temple... CURRAN GOES DOWN... CURRAN GOES DOWN ON HER KNEES and Stevie G. wraps his arms around the head in the VIP lounge!!! Alex bends down against the canvas and starts to blubber but the count is slow... suspiciously slow and somehow the Merseyside blonde geats up at eight but she battles the tears and points at her jaw. Ref is confused... but not Nicola who jumps in and whacks the stranded rival on the jaw.. Poor Alex never saw that coming.... left arm was low and right pointing at the chin.. Doesn't matter... CURRAN DOWN AGAIN.... DOWN AGAIN... and the Liverpool crowd truly goes silent inside the Echo Arena because their girl crashes on the side... and can't hold back the tears anymore... She rolls onto her back and covers her chin with both gloves... There's clearly something wrong as Nicola struts back to her corner... Ref starts the count.. he has to... last glimmer of hope for the Merseyside faithful but there's no miracle. Alex doesn't even make the effort of getting up and is in clear distress as the painful reality kicks in... KO R8 Nicola McLean!!!

Post-fight:
Audience doesn't even bother with pouring dirt on the winner as the main concern is with the fallen Aintree model. Stevie G. leaps between the ropes and kneels down at his wife and the medics rush in too... Not even the official verdict is announced and Nicola just shrugs her shoulders and leaves the ring before getting stopped by Denise van Outen: "What happened out there, Nicola?", "Didn't you hear THAT crack? I just BROKE her jaw and feel WONDERFUL about it! Tell that Heynatz girl to book Heathrow tickets cause I'm ready for her! What a night!"

No, neither Denise van Outen nor the crowd heard that crack Nicola was talking about but the grim reality really kicks in post-fight as Alex is left sitting on the canvas and crying her eyes out on Steven Gerrard's shoulder. Medics confirm the gruesome truth, a fractured jaw ends Curran's title quest and puts her out of action for the upcoming few weeks. Devastating night for the Echo Arena crowd, first a Manchester girl trounced her opponent in brutal fashion but that was nothing compared to Nicola McLean breaking Alex Curran's jaw!

Terrible event for the Lioness Club too. All three members of the stable lost in comprehensive fashion including big guns Kurkova and Curran. Add the beatdown Sophie Howard suffered at the hands of Hayley McQueen and one gets the whole picture. Apart from the four winners and their camps there's literally nobody inside the arena happy with how the bouts unfolded despite four truly great knockouts which would highlight any BBU card. Merseyside will weep long into the night after this one...
