Story based on a real-life tennis match in the final of the BNP Paribas Open held on 17th March 2013.

BEFORE: Many tennis experts claim Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki are the two supreme pin-up girls of WTA right now and who would want to bet against that? Sharapova's a worldwide brand itself even without the tennis tag while Wozniacki makes up for recent slump in form by hooking up with PGA's poster boy, Rory McIlroy. But here in Indian Wells it's all about Wozniacki alone again; she gets the chance of securing her biggest success for over a year even though the challenge that lies ahead is the toughest possible; Sharapova wants to reclaim her California home in the desert having been punched out by Victoria Azarenka last year. But with Azarenka watching this on ESPN and Serena Williams back in Florida, there's only Wozniacki standing in the way of destiny.

Round 1:
Wozniacki, ever the counterpuncher, storms out of her stool and offers something different for a change, pummels through the arms and bounces off the Russian's jugs but eats a quick hook on the counter as Sharapova targets her head and finds more success with a cross-hooking combo on the nose. Wozniacki drops her midsection attack, is forced to cover up but still throws leather from behind the guard but Maria opens up from both flanks and pours in between her arms, clips the chin and snaps the head back in a sudden rage of fury, Caro can't live with the onslaught and leaps back to the ropes with Maria right after her despite the medicore footwork usually shown in her fights. Wozniacki ducks and weaves on her feet, throws single hand response but Sharapova nails her on the chin again and lands an uppercut on the breasts, pins Caro on the ropes and makes her yelp in pain with a vicious jabbing combo on the navel to see out the round. Wozniacki not exactly thrilled with the opening exchange, ignores looking at her rival who calmly walks back to her stool as well.

Round 2:
Sharapova's calm departure after the opening round was obviously a false dawn as she rips into the Danish blonde straight off the bell and Caro can't break the distance, gets caught with another uppercut on the chin in mid-range, eats overhand hooks thereafter and Sharapova's power makes a mess of her defence; several jabs are slicing through the Dane's mitts and snap her head back as Caro tries to revert to some nifty footwork to avoid the barrage but she gets laced on the liver area with a seemingly wayward effort and Maria slams a left hook across her nose in a dangerous follow up. Wozniacki raises her gloves to protect the more increasingly targeted face but Sharapova switches low in response and peppers the ribcage, makes Caro wince in pain but still backs her against the ropes without any sympathy whatsoever. The bararge continues in the final minute, Wozniacki trapped butt-in-ropes, just soaking up the punishment and Sharapova looks as sharp as ever, pounds away at her hapless rival and concludes the round with another series of gutwrenchers that leave Caro gasping for air.

Round 3:
Wozniacki realizes she's not gonna hurt the Russian with any aggression of her own and tries to wear Sharapova down by circling and jumping around her. Few stray shots upset Maria though and she finds a burst of speed lacking in her stance just few months ago; she swings around the high guard and nails the Danish blonde on the temple, follows up with a crisp uppercut on the chin as Wozniacki couldn't move away from danger zone quickly enough... CARO DROPS ON HER KNEES!!! Huge uppercut just thumped her on the canvas and looked as powerful as Wozniacki's camp feared it would be before the fight. Wozniacki gets up at six, indicates that was nothing but she remains on the back foot with the Russian just slicing through her trademark defence, snapping the head back repeatedly and Caro's face develops a serious bruising quickly as she can't tame the ferocious onslaught at her expense. She skims off the arms in a weak and fruitless response, gets nailed on the temple instead and Sharapova catches her on the nose with a straight jab at the bell, sends Caro spinning to the ropes and looking totally outclassed today much to the crowd's delight. They want the Russian superstar to reclaim the Indian Wells turf and the painful reality just stacks up against Wozniacki's chances.

Round 4:
Maria on the move, left hook on the nose, right hand on the ribs... Wozniacki caught napping in the middle of the ring, no footwork to speak of anymore as Sharapova lays heavy leather against her ribcage, bends an aching Dane forward, uppercuts her chest and cross-hooks the nose as Wozniacki sags on her knees, fails to raise her arms in time and another uppercut nails her on the jaw! WOZNIACKI CRASHES HARD ON HER BACKSIDE just unable to live with her opponent's aggression. More trouble with beating the count now but the brave girl from Odense gets up at seven and nods back to the referee. Sharapova smells wounded prey, lashes out at her foe and Caro just covers up in wake of the relentless onslaught but gets pummelled back to the ropes anyway where Maria flicks a series of low jabs on the tummy, has Caro moaning even louder now but the high guard is slow to materialise again and a cross-hooking combo on the mouth shuts Wozniacki's eyes, left hook on the chin sends her crashing against the corner post and the arms go numb as Sharapova piledrives her chin in brutal fashion... right jab on the mouth follows, Wozniacki's knees give way... left hook on the nose does the job eventually AS THE REF JUMPS IN and embraces the battered Danish blonde who was about to slide down on the canvas not to rise again tonight... TKO R4 Maria Sharapova in epic ass-kicking fashion!

AFTER: "This is my home", Sharapova throws it down with authority, bashing the fellow pin-up girl senseless for almost four full rounds. Best showing from the Russin star in Indian Wells since 2006 where she demolished Elena Dementiva in three equally brutal rounds. In this kind of form Sharapova is capable of defeating anyone out there, including Azarenka and Williams, the long-time thorns in her side.

Almost a shame that Caro had to go through this, after a great decision win over Angelique Kerber the demons of Michelle Jenneke came back at her with twice as much venom. She is quickly revived on her stool and just applauds the winner's parade around the ring as the crowd chants Maria's name. Playing second fiddle is not in Caro's script against anyone but she had no answers to the Russian's ruthless execution today and she knows it. "I'll get her next time", she whispers to herself but that couldn't bother Sharapova less. The Siberian Siren is the media's favorite again and it's always a proper fit. Some girls are just made to be in the spotlight all the time...
