Before: Eva, Eva—why Nicole as your first defense? “Because the best beach women have a lot in common with girls who came up from daytime,” Longoria says with conviction. “Eggert as tuff a brawling flyweight as Mish Williams or Salma Hayek, but you NEVER see her in the rankings or reads about her in the magazines. And it’s the same thing in soaps. I know I’m the FCBA ‘world’ champ at 110, but I’ll tell you right now that I would NOT be the boss of daytime small women, and until champs in my position are willing to put it on the line against ALL comers, we aren’t worthy of the belts we wear!” Nicole nodding, applauding with the assembled media—she’s long been a vocal critic old the cloistered FCBA ranking system and publicity machine. “All I’ve ever wanted is a chance,” says Nicole, “and it’s taken an Eva Longoria to open the door. I could have busted Dani Fishel at 120—but while was feasting on soft touches, TE didn’t want me anywhere near their meal ticket. Carmen Electra took Tara Reoid rather than answer my phone calls. Claire Danes? Natalie Portman? Gimme a break: those girls know they can’t handle beach beef. I respect the hell out of Eva Longoria for taking this kind of risk and when I win, if she wants a rematch, she’s got it. Why? Because that’s what real fighters do.” Eva in tan western motif bikini, tan sheepskin boxing mittens, matching sheepskin UGG boxing boots—Nicole in green crochet bikini, tan sheepskin boxing boots and mittens.
During R1: Both girls aggressive in different ways. Eva trying to control midring, pumping her jab to Nicole’s eyebrows. Eggert bobbing, weaving, trying to collapse distance., fight off Longoria chest. Advantage sways back and forth—Longoria making Nikki pay the price to get close, but Eggert willing to pay it and reaping benefits when she foes so. Close round, but Eva finishes up on the ropes taking rude punches on her shoulders,. Arms, flanks-0-Nicole roughing the willowy champion up with high volume, high intensity work at the bell.
R2,3: Eggert could be winning these rounds., Eva glaring with concentration, pumping her jab, retreating in good order, walking Nicole into brisk rights and lefts to the head., Nic bobbing and weaving, jabs stubby to Eva’s chest, blonde willing to absorb punches in exchanges for Longoria’s backside in ropes, then fight changes. Eva covering up earmuff, gritting her teeth: Eggert belting away, bring her hands back quickly, bobbing and resetting her slugger’s balance, Mitts sounding out in dull throbs and whumps against Eva’s fat-free frame—same again when Longoria touches up Nicole’s brows or scrubs away up top.
R4,5: Eva really struggling to hold her ground—jabbing as Nicole comes in, then straining against blonde in beefy lock ups to deny Eggert any more forward progression. Longoria doing a nice job apparently impervious to Eva’s scrub-and-clang upstairs—champ starts to bump her shoulder to get room for snatching hooks beneath the elbows., Nice counterclockwise rotation Longoria, gently turning her foe while fighting her at closer range--Eva mixing in right uppercuts in the fifth seems to have stymied Nicole’s advantage at last.
R6: Grinding war of attrition not the way. Longoria’s handlers drew this thing up, but Eggert won’t allow pure stick and move. Eva improvising well--hooking the body, pivoting and sidestepping, counterpunching the busy, but all-too available blonde with left and right uppercuts on the chin. Nicole won’t be moved—she’s being rung up on the button, but keeps coming—she’s pounding Eva’s slender arms, torso in determined fashion. Late the round, girls trade hooks and Eva’s legs give a shimmy: she falls in to clinch, cheek wet against Nikki’s tanned shoulder, arms coiled around Nikki’s shiny ribs as blonde holds her hands out wide to side for ref’s break.
R7: Nikki gobbling, but coming on—Eva scowling as she lands the right cross, the right uppercut, the left hook on Nicole’s chin—sheepskin gloves landing with muffled thump. Sending tremors up slender Latina limbs. Nicole being outworked, lumping up, but trudging through it: she’s willing to rat 3 Longoria blows to land something hard herself. Longoria’s chin holding up well when tested, but she’s being buffeted off balance, jerked around: Nikki’s mitts are heftier. Longoria’s body also holding up, but Nicole doing damage to the ribs and sternum when she can crowd in at the ropes, arch her back and get up underneath., Eva hates clinching—hates it—but corner drumming it into her almost every break to hold Nicole on the ropes and let the ref reset things midring. After seven Eva mouthbreathing on her stool, wincing from rib-ache: Nicole’s left eye closing shut, face tender and puffy.
R8: Eva steps in her jab hard., leaning with it, then hooking off it, Nicole’s chest with a shoulder to deny blonde canvas, Bumping, pushing off—Eva gets the right hand on Nikki’s cheek, clips in an extra left hook as Eggert’s no longer seeing the punches. Nicole mule-stubborn, now eating half a dozen shots to her one., but determined to crowd and bang—Eva smart to keep stepping right, moving into Eggert’s blind spot. Longoria ups the tempo, lathering now, punishing Eggert, turning her and walking her into non-stop abuse—champ finally getting this impetuous beach upstart under control with class and fury. Good, good body shots—hooks snaked in across the waist—seem to discourage Nicole, hunching her up and visibly slowing her for the first time tonight.
R9: Eva jabs, hooks off the jab, steps right and gets free, clean right hands: Nicole’s starting to hurt. Eggert coming forward purposefully at times, blundering at others—limitations are being exposed by champ’s crafty, heartless, constant punching. Eva sleek and shiny with sweat, eyes glittering as she refuses to spare the lash, sensing break down in strong blonde legs, sturdy blonde body. Longoria lands the chopping right any time she throws it now—Eggert taking it on the chin, knees bending as she soaks, then staggers in, Eva stepping back in good order and SCRUBBING her mitts back and forth across oncoming Eggert jugs—Nikki making moist little gruntings of protest as she stumbles forward, now just trying to wrap up wide. Eva won’t have it, twisting to the side, shoving Nicole away and ripping her right hands upside the head—Eggert driven in stupor to ropes, covering up in astonishment as hushed Latina fists thump away to bell., Longoria snarling, animalistic as ref pushes her off: colour is high, eyes flashing as poor Nicole simpers to her seat.
R10: Eva Longoria comes out to finish this thing: groggy, willful Nicole stands her ground to deny the champion satisfaction. Nikki pushing tired punches off her heels not effective—sheepskin gloves skidding off Eva’s brow and shoulders as Latina leans forward and rips with unforgiving leverage. The ride of a champion: Eva knows she’s got this thing wrapped up, knows Nicole’s got nothing left., smart play is top take the duke and walk away, but Longoria CRAVING the KO, pours it on in sheets. Breathtaking stuff—Eva’s svelte, whippet frame taut, tummy-muscles shredding into view as she twists into slicing blows, sheepskin mitts bashing and buffeting off skull, shoulders, chin, then slashing to ribs, tummy and jug whenever Eggert falters forward. No part of Nicole left unconquered –Eva torqueing away from the hips, shifting weight foot to foot as gradually, Nicole Eggert crumples in stages, battered and heartbroken, to her knees. Head bowed, ends of sweat-tangled hair mopping dirty canvas, tummy shuddering in and out—poor Nicole can’t rise from the four point stance. KO10 in spectacular fashion, Eva Longoria.
After: Standing ovation for crowd pleasing Latina—knowledgeable fans in attendance know she didn’t have to risk herself like that: Eva basks in the recognition of her effort, grinning and waving. And what a warrior little Nicole is—CONGRATULATING the champion in the aftermath in a dazzling display of sportswomanship. “I totally respect Eva coming after me the way she did,” a lumped up Nikki E says on camera—Longoria just to her left. “A lot of fighters would have run the clock, some fighters would have eased up out of misplaced concern, but I wanted Eva’s best game and she respected me enough to give it to me. What can I say? This woman used up every last drop of me tonight. Spots 2 to 9 in the flyweight rankings are bogus, but the champ’s for real. Eva Longoria’s the best fighter I’ve ever been with—period.”
