Retro Bout 1965

Before: On-set bout between Weld and Margret occurred during filming of The Cincinnati Kid" - Weld finally giving in to the redhead's endless taunts and challenges. In 1965, Margaret was at the pinnacle of her career, and opponents were in short supply. Her constant needling and berating of Weld leading up to this bout is the stuff of Hollywood legend, and a particularly ugly period for Margret who was not known as a bully in celeb fighting circles. Fought in the wooden arena set used for the c— fighting scene - Margret in green lace push up bra and black panties - Weld in light blue see through baby doll teddy, light blue bra and panties.

R1: Margret came out with an impish grin, but it wouldn't last long as Weld unleashed several weeks of built up frustration in an exciting first heat that had cast and crew cheering from the stands. Weld tore into her tormentress with both hands, chugging away with rising lefts and rights to Margaret's breasts, backing the redhead up and forcing to clinch. Weld would often shove her way clear of these grapples, walk her girl down, and continue to pump lefts and rights with her arms, backing Margret all around the ring. Annie took a merciless beating to her tummy and breasts as Tuesday pushed and punched her all around the ring, taking the first round with feeling - glares all around as the girls retreated to their corners.

R2: Anne may have been surprised by Weld's ferocity in the first, but she made no such mistake in the second. Weld's uppercutting lefts and rights took Margret's usual bobbing head movement away, but the blonde was there to be countered, and Anne timed her to perfection. Fading back, then leaning in behind the hook, Margret took Tuesday apart punch by punch, and by the middle minute had the blonde staggering sideways as the blows crashed clean against her jaw. Weld's legs trembled in the final minute as Ann went to the blonde's body, grunting with the effort of digging her fists into Tuesday's tummy and ribs, and the round ended with a helpless Tuesday Weld propped up against the wooden sides of the c— fighting arena, just covering up, muffling her screams as Ann's fists hammered her sides. Margret with a flounce of those hips and a toss of that red mane left her opponent writhing against the wall -Weld was shattered and teary eyed during the break.

R3: Classic Annie M as she never took her glittering eyes off her prey during the break, and bolted across the small expanse at the bell to lay into the hapless blonde. Weld was undone, no longer wanting any part of Margret, and she howled in pain as Ann tore at her midsection, often lifting a leg to protect herself as she staggered along the wall. Ann got her hips in behind every blow, palming up on Tuesday's biceps after slugging to prevent the clinch, then getting back to work as the blonde wilted. With Tuesday bent over, arms at her stomach - Margret worked patiently, hands loose and low, just smacking in behind Tuesday's elbows, or scraping against the top of the blonde's head with short uppercuts as the girls stood shoulder to shoulder. It happened of a sudden: Margret dug a right into Tuesday's side, nudged her cheek against the top of Weld's head then DUG the left hook in beneath Tuesday's protective arm to drop the blonde sobbing to her knees. Ann Margret refused to back away, taunting Weld to rise while the blonde sat on her haunches, arms across her stomach, bawling and refusing to go on. KO3 Ann Margret.

After: It was an inexplicably savage episode in Ann Margret's career, and one for which biographers as well as the lady herself have offered no satisfactory explanation. Why Ann Margret would bully Tuesday into taking this fight, then pummel her to her knees, and then refuse to accept the victory until physically removed from the ring remains a mystery. Some women just bring out the worst in others, and of course, there's always method acting to blame.
