BEFORE:
"This girl," says Carrie, with a shake of her head, "Talks like she's Hayden Panettiere but fights like a curtain-jerker. And I can't wait to get in the ring and slap some of the snark out of her mouth."
"Underwood's a sad story, really," says Kat, doing her best to keep a smile off her face. "Finally gets signed, then gets released before she even gets a fight. Sad. I really feel sorry for her. Especially because she's now desperate enough to take a fight against ME. I mean, how bad did it have to get for her to sign on that dotted line, knowing what I'm going to do to her? Oh, well. I'll take pity on her and make it quick. Maybe."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Good Girl' you hear behind us, and that can only mean the singer of that tune, Carrie Underwood, is on her way to the ring..."
McCarthy: "HERE'S a typical Dancing Hooker opponent. She's had two FCBA fights, lost both of them, and she had management for five months and got canned before she ever got a fight!"
Tess: "As I recall, it was a numbers game at Rampant and nothing against Carrie or her abilities..."
McCarthy: "Blah, blah, blah, Walmart..."
Cassie: "See, this is why she gets paid big bucks. For insightful commentary like that..."
McCarthy: "Shut. It. Scabbo!"
O'Dell(sighing): "Carrie into the ring, helped off with the robe to reveal a hunter green two piece that gets a nice reaction from the crowd, and that's 'Wanna Say' booming through the arena, and here comes the singer of THAT tune, the gorgeous 'Liberian Lynx', Kat Graham!"
McCarthy: "This side of Campbell and Scherzinger, this girl is the Dancing Hooker I like the LEAST. SO full of herself it's disgusting!"
Cassie: "Says 'The Playmate Of The Century'..."
McCarthy: "What's your point, Scabbo?"
Cassie: "Tess, I REALLY don't know how you do this every month..."
Tess: "I'm well paid."
O'Dell: "Me, too, thankfully. Graham into the ring, helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal a yellow bikini that has the crowd buzzing. Ladies just about ready to go, so let's get some picks. Tess on record as favoring Kat, what do you think, Mac?"
McCarthy: "As I said, Graham is full of herself. She's also the typical overrated Dancing Hooker. Despite Underwood's paper-thin resume, she CAN beat her, but Graham has to be the favorite."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
McCarthy: "Let me guess, you agree with TESS!"
Cassie: "Oddly enough, I DO!"
McCarthy: "What are the chances?"
O'Dell: "All of our ladies in agreement. Let's see if they're right. Underwood stalking Graham right off the bell. Kat wants to pop the jab, use that athleticism and quickness."
Tess: "People call Kat a flyweight version of Nicole Scherzinger, and you can see the similarity in the skill sets..."
O'Dell: "Kat stops and pops and quite a flurry as Carrie pounds back! Heavy leather being exchanged until Graham circles away!"
McCarthy: "As we've seen in the past, Underwood punches above her weight..."
Cassie: "A lot like Kendra Wilkinson..."
McCarthy: "Only CARRIE actually HAS talent for something other than sleeping with HEF..."
O'Dell: "ANOTHER spirited exchange as Graham stops to flurry and Carrie let's 'em fly! Both girls scoring well until Kat circles away again."
McCarthy: "Graham does NOT want to stand in there and trade with Underwood."
O'Dell: "And she seems to agree with you, Mac, as Kat's back on her horse, circling behind that left, popping the jab home, dropping the odd right. Constant motion. Making Carrie chase. Underwood game, trying to cut the ring, but Graham too quick, the feet too educated."
Cassie: "Holding the hands low, confident enough in the head and foot movement to do that."
O'Dell: "Carrie still trying to cut, but Kat having none of it to the bell. Close round, ladies."
McCarthy: "Graham won it late, when she started boxing and made Carrie chase."
Cassie: "Agreed."
Tess: "10-9, Kat, after one."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Back to work in the second, and Graham back on her bicycle. Wants to circle and snap that left jab, pivoting, ducking a counter, landing a right, circling back the other way. Underwood looking to close, trying to cut the ring, but Kat range-finding with that left, controlling Carrie with it..."
Cassie: "She's squaring Underwood up very well, slowing her down with the left. Carrie not able to close and go to work."
O'Dell: "Graham a solid flurry and Carrie fires right back! Underwood swinging for the fences in these exchanges, and Kat quickly bounces away, not going to get involved in too much hot tossing."
McCarthy: "Like I said, she doesn't want to trade with Carrie."
O'Dell: "And she's using her feet and that left hand to avoid doing it. Kat popping the left hand into Underwood's face, bouncing on her toes, circling. Carrie able to bang back only in spots, but she's coming out of her SHOES when she does it, landing heavy shot. Kat keeping those exchanges short, using those dancer's legs to excellent effect. There's the bell ending the second, and no doubt it's for Kat."
Cassie: "Clearly Graham's round."
Tess: "20-18 Kat after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third round begins and Underwood in hot pursuit of Kat Graham. Kat retreating now, no longer circling. Giving ground as Carrie moves forward banging heavy shot home. Graham showing a little movement, but not much, backing to the ropes, bringing up the guard and letting Underwood bang away..."
McCarthy: "This is either very smart or very stupid and I don't know which."
Tess: "You want to elaborate for the fans, Mac?"
McCarthy: "The kid was doing perfectly well moving and boxing this girl, so why change tactics? Why make yourself available to a hard hitter who's clearly thinking knockout? Stupid. Unless it isn't."
O'Dell: "Kat in the pocket, guard up high, letting Carrie bang away, snapping back the odd jab. Now she slips away to her right, circles, gives ground to an advancing Carrie. Again, Kat retreating to the ropes, hands high again and Carrie goes right back to work, banging away with both hands."
Tess: "Unless it isn't becauuuuuuse..."
McCarthy: "Do I have to spell EVERYTHING out for you, Walmart? The only good reason for Kat to be laying in the pocket is to get Carrie to spend a lot of energy trying to get her out of there. If that's what's she's thinking, then maybe it's smart."
O'Dell: "Graham slipping away again, making Carrie chase, then giving ground as Underwood cuts off the ring and backs her into the ropes. Carrie swinging from her heels, hammering away at Graham's guard, looking for something big, but not ignoring the well-toned body of her rival. Final seconds tick away to end the third, and Carrie Underwood has her first round of the evening."
McCarthy: "Most dominant round for either fighter so far. Carrie banged that one out, in control from bell to bell."
Tess: "29-28 Graham through three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Round four underway, and Carrie again making with the pressure on Kat. Graham back to circling now, forcing Underwood to chase and try to cut off the ring. Kat range-finding with that left jab...and LANDS A BIG RIGHT HOOK! Carrie stopped cold, wobbled...BLISTERING OVERHAND RIGHT AND DOWN SHE GOES! Carrie collapsing on her right side and ragdolling to her back. Graham puts her right glove to her mouth and blows on it before being chased to a neutral corner by the referee."
McCarthy: "If I were refereeing, I'd send her to the corner with a kick right square in..."
O'Dell: "Referee's count at four, five, six, seven, Carrie unmoving, nine TEN! It's over! And your winner by KO4 is 'The Liberian Lynx', Kat Graham!"
Tess: "Let's check replay on the knockout. Graham sets this up with a good left and watch the right hand. She's got the glove almost at hip level and it uncoils like a snake, BAM, right on the button. Underwood freezes and somehow stays up, so here comes a left jab and BANG, the overhand right that ends Carrie's night."
McCarthy: "Graham kid showed a lot of professionalism in that third. She let her girl spend reserves, had her just a little tired, just enough to slow her reactions a bit, and that was enough. Very savvy stuff from Graham."
O'Dell: "Remember that whole controversy about who the top flyweight at Front Street was? I think we've got another one."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I've got our winner, Kat Graham, and, Kat, were you surprised how aggressively Carrie came after you?"
Kat: "No, I mean, she HAD to, didn't she? Try boxing with ME, and she's going to eat a 10-0 shutout and come out of it looking like Bilson before she puts on make up. I knew she'd come out swinging, and I knew JUST how to handle that."
Tess: "We just watched you and Kristen win impressively back to back. Are you ready for the 'who's the top fly at Front Street' debate to begin?"
Kat(smiling): "Begin? It's already over! It's ME. I'm the next big thing at flyweight, and not JUST at Front Street!" |
