BEFORE: Two nice girls, but one's gotta treat the other shabby. "Shay's an intimidating presence," a candid Piper P admits in prefight. "Not just how tall and strong she looks at the weight: it's how pretty she is, the way she commands a room...this girl has a lot going on. She's me right after Coyote Ugly, except for one thing: Shay Mitchell is soft (pause for crowd gasp). We've all seen it, and that's my edge. I hurt her, I'll finish: she hurts me, I'll tough it out and get back at her. That sucks for her, but she's got time on her side. She'll figure it out, just not against me."

Mitchell pursing her lips: she knows that 'soft' label won't go away until she chases it off. "Piper's a tuff nugget at bantam," Shay allows, "but I welcome the challenge. The way you shake a rep for being 'soft' is by beating down girls like Piper Perabo. Gonna be a hard dime, but I'm up for the hitting. Way I'm training, I don't see Piper going the distance against me. Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings, but she's old, every fighter's got a due-date, and she's way closer to hers than I am to mine!"

Piper in soft velvet tiger print bikini; blonde hair in messy tangly-curls; black gloves. Shay in bright royal blue bikini top; fun bottoms of stretchy terrycloth in horizontal bars of blue and grey; white gloves; long black hair in glossy, soft curls.

During R1: Shay being tall - pumping the left jab, leaving the hand outstretched to push on Piper's head or raised guard - lining blonde-girl up for right hands off the shoulder. Piper bobbing, dukes at cheeks, weaving her way in with hooks to Shay's head...blonde wants to get guard-on-guard with Shay, then trade clubbing, snatching licks off the bump-and-rub inside. Shay accepts Piper's terms, but getting the better of Perabo: Mitchell bumping guards; jerking tidy little left uppercuts; whacking Piper healthy, palm-up hooks in under elbows; waiting for Piper to punch, then catching her short right hands to head. Blonde belting away arms/body/head as well, but it's Mitchell landing the better leather.

R2: Shay jabbing early, but Piper finding it easy to weave the poke, get guard-and-guard, then work from there. Shay making no attempt to disengage and fight tall: she's happy to grind away, press her guard into Piper's and trade strapping licks body/head. Bruising tit-for-tat attrition, with both beauties looking for big-scores: Piper's out-punch is a looping overhand right, trying to catch Shay backing out. Mitchell doing a good job crowd forward, smothering that shot - meanwhile, her shoulder-shrugging little uppercuts are picking Piper up, getting in between blonde-mitts. Down the stretch, Shay hunkering down to absorb a shelling about her shoulders/head, then answering a short-jerk left uppercut to picks Piper up onto her toes. Blonde girl stunned - Shay feeds her an extra left uppercut, then tucks a brutal left hook to tummy - PUTTING PIPER DOWN! Perabo sobbing on knees-and-elbows, forehead on canvas...she's lucky the bell sounds, giving her a chance to rally off the deck.

R3: Piper shows her rugged side - shaking off Shay's power, getting right back to work. Double-P pumpin' the stubby jab at Shay's raised guard: blonde not scoring, but she's keeping Mitchell covered up/dictating terms. Perabo putting combinations together off the preparatory jab: tough right hand to Shay's tanned paunch; looping left hook to ear; chopping overhand right to scalp. Mitchell covered up tight, absorbs the best of it...she's not hurt, but Piper's activity keeping ingenue covered up and taking through 3.

R4: Shay covering up too much - she's showing a sturdy earmuff-front, but she's letting Piper get off strong! Blonde girl putting punches together: beating biceps whacking blasts; eating up the tummy hup-hup; clobbering wide wallops to either ear, punching Shay out of her stance. Minute mark, Shay tries to answer back, opening herself up to bashing facial connects...Piper bouncing Mitchell's head around, finally fetches brunette chin a belting hook and DOWN GOES SHAY! Mitchell blubbery, but rallying off the deck: she's a hurting little puncher for her 8. ON COMES PIPER! Minute and a half left...Piper wades on in, jams her head into Shay's earmuff guard and starts pouring on the work. Compact blonde shoulders rolling into hup-hup tummy combos; ripping, short-jerk right uppercuts brushing Shay back all spellbound and blinking; healthy, bashing strokes administered to biceps and lats, numbing Shay's upperbody. Bell: Piper seething, forcing hard eye contact; Shay in tears - too strong-bodied to quit, but she's a wreck on her stool as trainer goes to work on that pretty-little-psyche.

R5: Piper stubby-jabbing out of her bobbing approach...she works Shay to ropes, lays siege as Mitchell digs in on apron. Girls bumping guard, trading snatching hot-shots back and forth: each wants the other's tummy via chopping hooks; each using tuff body shots to set up something quick and hard to head. Bruising toe-to-toe attrition - both girls throwing hard, but Piper in top position at ropes...she's bumping Shay, jostling her, getting off in combination while Shay's fetching Perabo one healthy lick at a time. Bell: Piper makes a point of putting hands on Shay and pushing off...Mitchell complains to ref who seemingly could care less.

R6: Piper driving on Shay's front: this time brunette stands her ground, blocking shots in earmuff, then firing back thick and strapping. Perabo initiating the exchanges midring but paying an ever-higher price...Shay's left uppercut finding Piper's chin with consistency, and blonde girl noticeably cringing when Mitchell cuts that left hook across tummy. Shay really shellacking Piper toe to toe...Perabo's firm body, brawny little shoulders seem somehow reduced/softened up by the meaty assault.

R7: Piper showing her fitness - bobbing and weaving behind that stubby-jab - poking and bumping Shay to ropes. Sets up grim guard-and-guard snatch-and-bump...Mitchell inexplicably going defensive, allowing Piper to work. Blonde girl going through her progressions - bumping her guard into Shay's; punishing the waistline/tummy via snatching whacks; jerking nasty little right uppercuts in tight; hooking in behind Shay's right elbow off the left (lead) plant-leg; shifting to right leg to clout left hooks upside the head. Mitchell just lolling on ropes, sponging it all up...she takes it well, curvy legs holding her up, but she gets a heartfelt lecture in her corner during the break.

R8: Shay shows signs of adjustment early - jabbing Piper at range, lining her up for slinging right hands, but blonde girl's rapid bob-and-weave soon returns her to the driver's seat. After first-minute negotiations, girls fight on Piper's terms in that guard-on-guard, bump-and-swat configuration. Mitchell showing the heart to fight this way, but getting outworked, and more importantly, giving Piper the range she needs to be at her best.

R9: Shay shows her muscular strength - fighting inside with Piper, then easing her outside with the pushing left hand; feeding her the heavy right cross, then establishing the jab. Perabo forced to weave back into position again and again, but she's taking punishment coming and going as Shay shows ability to tighten up stroke at close-quarters, or get her back into rangy bombs outside.

R10: More of the same from Shay - she gives up inside position to work guard on guard, but she's pushing Piper out, hitting her hard, making her constantly weave her way back inside. Sweating, thirsty work from both girls...just the constant whack-and-bat of thick body shots; the odd clean head shot inside picking one or the other up; the brawny bumping and resetting as girls fight for position. Shay bangs out close points, forcing Piper into a draw.

Girls meet at center ring, agreeing to terms without a lot of rancor: both want to see who's better.

R11: Shay working the formula: accept Piper inside and trade short-shrugging power-chop with her, then push her outside, jab her, feed her long right hands, and move a little to the side. Perabo looking punished, slowing down...inside she's trading tit for tat, but outside it's all Shay...Mitchell resetting the distance all the time really making things tough for durable blonde-girl.

R12: Piper finally breaks Shay's rhythm - jabbing taller girl to ropes, setting up on her chest and brawling with her. Mitchell distressed - often cupping her hands at Piper's ears, trying to control Perabo's head...meanwhile blonde-girl working that body hup-hup-hup; trying for the head; reaching in to wrestle apart Shay's guard, tire her limbs, frustrate her spirit as girls fight tummy to tummy, bell to bell.

R13: Same again - Piper bullying Shay to ropes, wrestling with her, beating her down...Perabo just bashing away at Pretty Little Puncher meat - making a constant nuisance of herself. Shay getting hit HARD body and head, but legs holding her up...Mitchell visibly discourage over latter half however, no longer able to punch-with, just trying to hold Piper for breaks. Perabo sustains pace, pushing, bodying, punching, smothering Shay at ropes for the round, and the fight UD13.

After: Shay fighting back tears when Piper's hand is raised...heartbreaking stuff for the Prettiest Little Puncher to come up juuuust short in another overtime thriller. Piper all marked up and exhausted - she has a hug and wise words for Shay at midring, then it's off to greet the cameras. "You know, she gave me a bruising, hard-hitting fight," Piper admits. "The kid doesn't know her own strength...if she knew how hurt I was at times, she would've really poured-on...but that'll come in time. Tonight I got what I needed in terms of situations - lots of fighting off her chest, lots of fighting at the ropes...she let minutes go by fighting my fight and I knew I was wearing her down. Got the duke guys and that's huge, because if you can't beat the best young fighters, it's basically over. I'm still getting it done, and that means I'm still in the hunt!"
