TESS VALMORE
BORTH/ CARLSON The opening bout of this card didn’t last long. Borth managed to take the first round, but halfway through the second Carlson hurt her with a short hook to the chin and then spent the rest of the round handing Borth a beating. Borth didn’t recover between rounds and was unable to present any kind of defense. Carlson simply punched Borth into oblivion, Borth finally going down for the count
HEMMENS/ SCERBO Everyone knows that Cassie is my BFF, so therefore I thoroughly enjoyed this bout. The bout was not exactly full of suspense. Scerbo was in control from the opening bell flooring Hemmens twice in the second. Cassie kept the pressure on Hemmens until the fifth when a flurry of punches ending in a short right uppercut sent Hemmens down for the count. Scerbo KO5
MILANO/ FISHEL This bout certainly didn’t lack for action. It was slugging from the very beginning, but a little sloppy in the first as Milano pulled Fishel’s hair and Fishel pounded Milano’s thighs. The advantage shifted towards Fishel late in the third round. In the fourth, a more disciplined Fishel, after landing a couple chin checkers went for Milano’s rack, leaving her sagging in the ropes, helpless. The referee stepped in and stopped the fight.
ROBERTSON/ BILSON. Maybe I missed something. This bout was unexpected, at least by me. The first half of the fight was competitive with Robertson actually holding a slight lead on the cards at the end of five. Too bad for her the fight didn’t stop there. The remaining five rounds all belonged to Bilson, who seemed to carry Robertson in order to give her a beating rather than end it. Robertson said in pre-fight she couldn’t afford to lose this bout. She is right. She lost her first fight to Lucy Hale which was a sign she had little future in the FCBA. Now she lost to Bilson who had lost five of her last six.
PERABO/ MITCHELL You don’t have to have “A class” fighters to put on a great fight. This is a case in point. A good bout all the way. Perabo went down in the second. Mitchell hit the canvas in the fourth. The rounds were hotly contested with Perabo have a 5-3 round lead at the end of eight. Mitchell, then took the last two rounds to end the regulation time in a draw and go into extra rounds. Mitchell took the eleventh. She only needed to take the next round. She didn’t. Perabo took the next two rounds to get the decision
TONKIN/ DURANCE Tonkin had a fine record going into this fight. Durance was coming back into competition after a rather inactive two years. Despite Tonkin’s success, I didn’t give her much chance since Durance is a top five fighter. Tonkin surprised me by going the distance. it was a good fight with Tonkin taking the second and a 10-8 round in the fifth. Tonkin would take the seventh, but those were the only rounds she would win. It was a fine spectator fight with Durance walking away with a wide decision
KAJLICH/ REGAN It seems that in every PPV there is a big upset. In this PPV, this was it. Regan, known at one of the two dominating welters, was facing a fighter who was in her second fight, having lost her first fight by a TKO. Kajlich surprised the crowd by decking Regan in the first. Regan came back to take the second. At the beginning of the third Kajlich landed a couple rights to the side of Regan’s head that had her stumbling around the ring. Bianca started working on Regan's body, finally shifting to her chin. Regan was helpless and the referee justifiably stopped the bout. Kajlich is unmanaged. Will she stay unmanaged?
SEYFRIED/ KENDRICK Another very entertaining fight. This was Kendrick’s debut in the FCBA. She didn’t win, but she did reasonably well. The two swapped winning rounds through six although Amanda had the lead via a third round knockdown. Seyfried took the seventh and eighth, Kendrick the ninth. Amanda salted the fight away by taking the tenth and getting the decision
McADAMS/ DeCESARE What a fight. DeCesare floored McAdams in the first. McAdams put DeCesare on the canvas in the second. After DeCesare took the third and McAdams, the fourth, Carmella again floored Rachel in the fifth. In the sixth a right to the chin decked McAdams. a fierce body attack put Rachel on the canvas again and finally a couple big right hands put McAdams down for the third time, this time for the full count.
RIGHETTI/ PALICKI. Lightweight Palicki stepping up to fight the dominating welter. She made a fairly good showing. Adrianne got off to a great start, hurting Righetti in the first and flooring her in the second. Amanda finally got going in the fourth and dominated the next five rounds to take a big lead. The ninth was quite a round with Adrianne hurting Amanda early and then Righetti hurting Adrianne late and having her ready to go as the round ended. Palicki didn’t recover between rounds and Righetti was the aggressor in the tenth. Righetti got the decision. We note that Righetti's management apparently referred to us in dismissing criticism of Righetti's record being partly to do with fighting in a weak division. The fact that the division is improving does not mean that the division is strong. I maintain that Righetti in Queen of the Hil in the weakest division is the FCBA
VANDERVOORT/ LIVELY Vandervoort, after having her drive towards a bantam title fight stopped in her last outing, stepped up to lightweight to take on Lively. It was a mistake. Laura took two of the first three rounds, but in the fourth Lively put her on the canvas. After that, Vandervoort would take only one more round and Lively punched her way to a wide decision. This was a bad result for Vandervoort, not that she lost, but by the margin that she lost. For Lively, it appears her career maybe on the upswing under the management on the Consortium
BROOK/ THERON Brook was quoted on Charlize’s birthday saying that no 38 year old woman in the world could beat her. She may want to reconsider. In my predictions, I said if Charlize would use her legs and jab she would win. That’s exactly what she did. She moved and jabbed her way through the fight. It’s not that she didn’t get hurt, but she was never in big trouble. Brook made a big mistake by giving Theron a elbow to the bra at the end of the fifth. Theron came out in the sixth and simply took Brook apart ending her misery with a short left hook. The was an encouraging performance from the GFIH
KRUEK/ KUNIS This was a must fight for Kunis, who after losing four of her last five was sitting at the end of the Consortium bench, wondering how long she would have a job at the cracker producer’s empire. This was Kreuk’s first fight of the year after a successful 2012. For Kreuk, 2013 no longer looks promising. Kunis looks like she is returning to form, taking the first three highly contested rounds. Kruek worked on Kunis’ body to take the fourth. Kruek came out for the fifth punching Mila back into a corner. Then Kunis took over, punching Kruek back across the ring and flooring her with a body attack. Kruek made it to her feet only to suffer another vicious body attack that left her uncompetitive and the fight was stopped.
LAWRENCE/ BIEL This highly anticipated fight ended in what could be called a very mild upset. The whole fight boiled down to the third round. Early in that round Lawrence dropped Biel. Biel then came back to put Lawrence on the canvas. Lawrence bounced back with a relentless body attack to send Biel back down. The result of the round was Biel’s legs were shot and she was badly hurt to the body. Lawrence, then simply worked on Biel’s body, In the eighth, Biel could no longer prevent Lawrence from simply doing what she wanted and Biel finally went down and out. A huge win for Lawrence that will shake up the lightweight rankings.
SHAHI/ MILLER The flyweight title is slippery. Not often does a champion last more than one fight. Make Shahi an exception. Not only did she take on a first class opponent , she simply demolished her in about two minutes. Miller never had a chance as Shahi hurt her with a left hook one minute in. Shahi then bombarded Miller with a series of rights and lefts to the head until Miller went down and was counted out.
MUNN/ HOLT Holt entered this fight on an eight fight win streak. The odds of winning nine straight in the FCBA are extremely long although it has been done before. The odds simply made me predict she would lose. Munn not only wanted to be the one who ended the streak, she wanted to retain her title. She accomplished both and she did it convincingly. Holt barely managed to finish the first round after being floored. After Holt made a surprising comeback in the second, Munn again floored Holt in the third and had her hurting at the end of the round. In the fourth, a right hand had Holt hanging in the ropes, Munn went on a back lashing attack that had Holt helpless and the fight was stopped
MENOUNOS/ PEREGRYM This bout was not on the original masterlist, but was added after i had done the predictions. Menounos had been the subject of severe criticism due to her failure to defend the title in over four months. Some, including Tractorpull, wanted her stripped of her title if she didn’t defend. Well she defended her title, but got stripped of it anyway. Peregrym simple destroyed Menounos. She decked her twice in the first round and continued to soften up Menounos body in the second. Missy ended the fight in the third with left hook to the stomach and right to the chin. Menounos was an ex-champion. Missy takes her second unified lightweight title to add to her two unified bantam titles. Rarely does a fighter move up in weight so successfully |
