BEFORE:
"You know," says Kelly with a shake of the head, "I'm getting tired of hearing about Torv. I mean, it's all people want to talk about. 'Sixteen rounds with "The Aussie Enforcer"...the highlight of your career...' It's no HIGHLIGHT. It's a LOSS. That's all it is. Just a loss. And I'm sick of hearing about it. So, tonight it's time to make a REAL highlight. Then they can ask me about the time I KNOCKED OUT 'The Aussie Enforcer'."
"This was always going to happen," says a stone-faced Anna. "Too much was left unfinished the first time. And that's MY fault. But, that's ok. This time, I'll get all the storylines wrapped up."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Motivation' you hear, and here comes the singer of that little ditty, the lovely Kelly Rowland!"
Cassie: "Rowland showing no emotion on the way down. Not looking at the crowd. Staring at the ring. Looking pretty focused..."
McCarthy: "She'll need to be."
O'Dell: "Rowland, of course, representing Beever's Babes. She's into the ring and helped off with the robe by her stable's corner people to reveal a purple number that has the crowd buzzing in appreciation..."
McCarthy: "And we all know THAT song! That's 'The Power and the Passion' by Midnight Oil, and here comes the Aussie Enforcer, Anna Torv!"
Tess: "Is that the first time Mac's ever introduced a fighter, Jenny?"
O'Dell: "I do believe it IS..."
McCarthy: "That's because there are so few people on this show WORTH introducing, but Torv is one of them. Anna and Sobieski are the only REAL fighters Weirdo HAS. Why he collected the rest of these Dancing Hookers, I have no idea, though the trash ratio of the place DID drop when he traded Scherzinger..."
O'Dell: "Torv into the ring. Helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal the black number she prefers, and we're about ready. Time for some picks. Tess on record as favoring Anna. Mac?"
McCarthy: "This Rowland kid is underrated. She gets enough work, she'll be a contender at light. But, the pick is Torv."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess..."
McCarthy: "UN..."
O'Dell: "And there's the bell for the first...Rowland immediately very aggressive, but Anna right to work with that left hand. Torv likes to use that heavy jab to establish control at range, and that's exactly what she's doing now..."
McCarthy: "Smart play. If this is a boxing match, Anna's going to win. If it gets wilder, like last time, then anything can happen, because, like I said, Rowland can fight. She just needs work."
O'Dell: "And Kelly IS working right now, and working hard, but she's not able to get very much done. Being preempted by that left hand. Anna controlling the fight with it. Finding the range repeatedly. Banging it home. Dropping in occasional right hands. Kelly landing some, too, but one punch at a time..."
Cassie: "This is what makes a lot of people so high on Torv. She has power and she can take a punch, sure, but she's a very slick boxer as well. Uses that Front Street jab as well as any fighter in the stable."
O'Dell: "Rowland grimly determined, continuing to try to get off, but Torv a little too slick, a little too effective. Working that left hand to perfection, not allowing Kelly to put punches together. Final seconds tick away and there's the bell. No doubt about the first."
Tess: "10-9 Anna after one."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second round begins the way the first ended, with Anna working the left hand at range. Kelly now going to a high guard and trying to work her way in closer, wants to engage inside that left hand..."
McCarthy: "Smart move by the Rowland kid. Trying to close on Anna like this is dangerous, but, if you stay outside, all you're going to do is get picked apart."
O'Dell: "Rowland managing to close and bring battle now, and it's excellent two-way stuff as the two lights go toe-to-toe and begin to slug it out..."
Tess: "Much bettet terms for Kelly, as Mac said..."
O'Dell: "And Rowland taking full advantage. Torv scoring as well during this leather tossing part of our program, but Rowland having the better of it in there, slowly taking control, getting more and more offense home and forcing Torv to the defensive as time runs out and the bell sounds ending the second. Kelly's tied it up, ladies."
Cassie: "19-19. Nothing in it. And no surprised to anyone who saw the first fight."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third round underway and we're right back toe to toe, trading bombs...AND DOWN GOES TORV! ROWLAND A RIGHT HAND SENDS ANNA TO HER KNEES!"
McCarthy: "Just like the first fight! Anybody's fight when they're mixing it up like this!"
O'Dell: "Referee's count to three. Four. Five. Anna to her feet at six. Takes the mandatory and Kelly now looking for the off switch! Rowland going all in, backing Torv up, cleaning her up...AND DROPPING HER WITH ANOTHER RIGHT CROSS!"
Cassie: "Rowland came in here with a plan to get a knockout, and she's executing it pretty well..."
O'Dell: "Anna again on her knees as the count reaches three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. And Torv back to her feet. Referee giving the mandatory again. Going to let this one continue, but not for long if Kelly has anything to say about it! Rowland all over Torv, backs her to the ropes...AND DROPS HER WITH A RIGHT HOOK!"
Tess: "Wow...the last one went 16, this might not go three."
O'Dell: "Kelly to a neutral corner. Torv in a sitting position along the ropes. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Anna to her feet again! Referee giving her the mandatory. Looking very closely, but going to let this one go. And Rowland doesn't need an invitation. She's right back to work, laying into Anna along the ropes. Torv covering up, trying to run clock, and there's not much left to run. Final second tick away and there's the bell. Torv survives, but a HUGE round for Kelly Rowland!"
McCarthy: "10-6. Just about ends the fight scorewise unless Torv has a huge one of her own. She's looking at needing a stoppage now."
Tess: "39-35 through three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth round begins with Kelly Rowland looking to finish. She's right back to work with big bombs that force Anna into retreat..."
McCarthy: "Torv doesn't have the legs back and Kelly knows it. She's ranging in, looking for something big."
O'Dell: "Rowland loading up on everything, landing heavy shot with both hands. Torv almost completely defensive, giving ground as Kelly lays down a field of fire...AND DROPS HER TO HER KNEES WITH ANOTHER RIGHT HAND!"
Tess: "You said Rowland could be a contender with consistent work, Mac..."
McCarthy: "And she's proving me right by wiping out a top ten lightweight..."
O'Dell: "Count to three. Four. Five. Six. Torv to her feet at seven. Another mandatory. And the referee again going to let it continue. Rowland LAUNCHING herself at Anna, going all in again for the finisher. Torv gives ground to the ropes and begins firing back! And we're trading leather again! Anna backs up Kelly! Gets off the ropes, and its vicious toe-to-toe stuff!"
McCarthy: "This is what I love about Torv. She's not going to let Rowland romp on her. She's right back at Kelly! Gritty and tough stuff!"
O'Dell: "And it's back and forth leather trading right to the final bell! And a stare exchanged before the fighters go back to their corners."
Cassie: "Nice comeback for Anna, but another big round for Rowland that's all but decided this thing short of a stoppage. 39-33. You aren't likely to make up that kind of stagger in six rounds."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Back to action in the fifth and Anna back to that left hand. Kelly looking to close and Torv nails her with a right...and another! Backs Rowland up and goes to work at distance with both hands..."
McCarthy: "Rowland's gotten Anna's attention in a big way. Anna's not an emotional fighter. She doesn't say much. Doesn't show much. That's why she gets overlooked. But that's a TICKED OFF Anna Torv in there right now and she's taking it to Kelly Rowland."
O'Dell: "That she IS. Anna firing salvo after salvo of heavy shot, backing Rowland up...AND ROCKING HER WITH A RIGHT HAND! Kelly stumbling back to the ropes and Anna letting the hands go..."
Cassie: "It's FUN when these two fight! I've got to convince Uncle Wiz to set this up again..."
O'Dell: "Rowland buzzed, trapped against the ropes. Torv handing out a PASTING. Anna all OVER Rowland in a 180 degree turn from last round! Torv banging home that heavy left again and again. Landing good right hands in follow up. Kelly wobbly, hanging on in a high guard. Ref looking in there..."
McCarthy: "He's not going to allow much more of this..."
O'Dell: "Torv hammering away with both hands down the stretch. Kelly almost completely defensive along the ropes. Referee looking very closely as the clock winds down...and there's the bell! Rowland survives the fifth like Torv did the third..."
Cassie: "And stays on her feet, doesn't allow Anna to take a chunk out of that lead. 48-43. Still a huge edge for Kelly."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Back to work in the sixth and Torv again with that big straight left hand, popping it home, backing Rowland up with a right. Kelly trying to close, but getting nailed with the right hand when she does so. Anna's ranging in with everything, and Rowland suddenly looking completely helpless..."
McCarthy: "This is what Anna Torv can do to you. She's such a good boxer, she can just grab control of the fight, take you out of what you want to do. And she's got enough power to give you a beating while she does it."
O'Dell: "And that's exactly what she's doing to Kelly now. Thumping Rowland, landing clean shots with both hands...AND SHE STAGGERS HER AGAIN! RIGHT HAND FROM TORV AND ROWLAND WOBBLED!"
Cassie: "Kelly's in deep trouble! Stumbled backward when that landed! Barely kept her feet!"
O'Dell: "And Torv backs her into the ropes and goes to work again. Anna bombing away with both hands, snapping back Rowland's head, hooking body now to bring down Kelly's gloves. Rowland again almost all defense. Referee again giving it a close look. Not sure what's holding Rowland up..."
McCarthy: "Me, either, because about four fifths of this division would be laying in a heap right now!"
O'Dell: "But Kelly grimly hanging on, trying to tie up and run clock. And it's the clock that's her friend, as the final seconds tick off and Rowland survives again! Two straight shutout rounds for Anna, but..."
Tess: "But, it's still 57-53 Rowland with four to go. Anna's gaining, but not quickly enough."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "The seventh begins with MORE good stuff from Anna Torv! Big flurry and she landed two hard shots in there! Kelly backed up again..."
McCarthy: "Torv dominating this girl right now, setting her up with that left and banging home hard, accurate right hands."
O'Dell: "Rowland opening up, firing back, but quickly Anna suppresses her with heavy fire, makes her cover up, forces her backward. The Aussie absolutely locked in and absolutely hammering Kelly Rowland. Anna advancing slowly, taking canvas inch by inch. Kelly giving ground, covering up, firing back in spots only to be suppressed again..."
Cassie: "Rowland trying to get off here, wants to break this up but can't seem to do it."
O'Dell: "She can not. Anna just too busy, too accurate, landing with both hands, keeping Kelly going backward, forcing her to cover up again and again. Torv's fists like guided missiles, hitting the target again and again. Rowland won't go quietly, but she's going. Backed against the ropes, getting touched up. There's the bell. And Torv has dominated three in a row."
Tess: "But she's still been unable to put up a crooked number. 66-63 with three to go. Rowland still in command on the cards."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Eighth round begins with Rowland going right after Anna! Torv meets the charge with a barrage of leather and here we go! Toe to toe banging like we saw earlier in the fight..."
McCarthy: "Normally with a nice lead, you wouldn't want to do this, but I think this is a good idea for Rowland. She needs to do something to break up Torv's momentum..."
O'Dell: "And she's taking some punishment doing it, but Kelly giving as good as she gets, going body some for the first time in the fight. Torv backs her up with a right but Kelly flurries back! Lots of leather flying during spirited exchanges..."
Cassie: "Dangerous for both girls in there, Jenny, but both of them need this round for different reasons! Kelly has to slow Anna down and Torv needs the points desperately..."
O'Dell: "And both looking like they need it, working hard, hot-tossing back and forth. Each responding to whatever the other throws at her. Final seconds ticking down and they're still working hard, still trading right to the bell. And it's Rowland by a whisker, I think..."
McCarthy: "That's how I saw it. Judges may not have..."
Tess: "If they did, it's 76-72, and short of something huge, Rowland has salted this thing away."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "We're into the ninth now and Rowland NAILED with a left-right! Torv backs her up and goes to work again with that jab. GOOD RIGHT from Torv and that sent Kelly back another step. Rowland covering up as Anna dials back in after the competitive eighth..."
McCarthy: "Rowland maybe a bit buzzed after that right hand. Anna strafing her right now, back to what she was doing in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, showing that ring generalship, controlling Rowland, keeping her defensive..."
O'Dell: "And laying a beating on her while she's doing it. Anna landing that hard left again and again. Working everything off that jab. Using it to set up hard right hands. Landing good, clean stuff with both hands..."
Cassie: "Rowland again trying to rally but can't get anything done. Everything getting suppressed with heavy fire..."
O'Dell: "And the shelling just increasing in intensity as we head down the stretch. Rowland against the ropes. Torv teeing off on her. Kelly covering up, WOBBLED with a right hand! Anna piling on now, looking for the finisher. Rowland trying to fire back, referee looking in as Torv NAILS Kelly with a right hand. Rowland wobbled again but stays on her feet. Torv another nice flurry, but there's the bell!"
McCarthy: "Kelly's taking a pasting. But this girl isn't going to punk. I like this kid. A lot."
Tess: "Anna wins the round, but it's 85-82. She's controlled the fight since the fourth round, but Kelly's early lead is holding up."
ROUND TEN:
O'Dell: "Tenth begins with a spirited exchange and we're toe to toe again! Anna working forward, wants to trade and Kelly's more than willing and HERE WE GO! Bombs exploding all over the ring as two hard-hitting lights go to town!"
McCarthy: "Rowland doesn't have to do this! She's got the fight on the cards. She doesn't need to mix up, but she's doing it. She's not going to sit on this lead. She's not going out having taken a beating for the last half of the fight..."
O'Dell: "Risky strategy, but I understand it. Anna's taking full advantage, loading up as they go back and forth, flurrying, landing good, sharp punches...good right from Torv there sent sweat FLYING. Rowland answers with a left hook..."
Cassie: "This has been a great fight. If this stands up, there HAS to be a rubber match at some point..."
O'Dell: "Torv continuing to fire away. Rowland banging right back. Leather flying in both directions. Plenty of power shots landing. Both women still have a lot in the tank as we enter the final seconds of the fight. Torv a big right hook! Kelly lands a left right. Anna a good right hand...and another! Rowland takes a step backward and eats a left hand...but there's the bell! It's over! And there's a hug even MAC can't be upset about. A rivalry has been born. And one based on mutual respect!"
Tess: "I gave the last one to Anna, but it's academic. She dominated the last 60 percent of the fight, but Kelly's early work is going to be the difference..."
O'Dell: "Decision being announced and it's 94-92 in favor of your winner, Kelly Rowland!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore..."
Tess: "I have our winner, Kelly Rowland, and what a fight and what a big win for you, Kelly..."
Kelly(smiling): "Couldn't get her out of there. I promised a knock out and I hit her with everything I had, but she kept getting up. Then she hit me with everything SHE had, but I wasn't giving in. I wasn't quitting. I knew if I was standing at the end, the fight was mine. And I'm still standing."
Tess: "What about a rubber match?"
Kelly(smiling): "Got no problem with it. There's still stuff between us that needs resolved."
