TESS VALMORE
ROBB/ BILSON This was a very good fight while it lasted. The rounds were close and hard fought. The fight was even at the end of five. In the sixth, a Bilson right to the ribs was the beginning of the end for Robb. Doubled oveR, she was an easy target for Bilson, who landed a series of rights and lefts to the head that left Robb on the canvas being counted out.
RICKARDS/ COHAN Even though Cohan had had three fights, I really had never heard of these two fighters. Since we are not fans of the CW network, we picked the non-CW fighter. That happened to be the wrong choice. This was another hard fought close fight. Cohan took the first round, but after that is was all Rickards who took the second and third rounds. in the fourth Rickards ended the fight with a right to the cheek that left Cohan senseless on the ring floor
DOBREV/ PANETTIERE While this may have been a good fight, it wasn’t close. After Panettiere took the first round, Dobrev reeled off the the next four including a fifth round knockdown. Panettiere managed to deck Dobrev in the sixth but Dobrev came back to take the next three. Dobrev having a huge lead, Panettiere needed a knockout in the tenth to win. She didn’t get it. Dobrev by a decision. Dobrev’s five inch height helped
MADEKWE/ ACCOLA. You like a fight with knockdowns, this is your type fight. Lot’s of knockdowns in a rather one sided fight, Accola decked Madekwe in the first, third, fourth, fifth and ninth. Madekwe put Accola own in the second and sixth. Those were the only two rounds that Madekwe won. The ninth round knockdown by Accola left Madekwe out for the count
VANCAMP/ KELLY This was another fight in which the rounds were not close. VanCamp essentially scored shutouts in the first three rounds and the sixth. Kelly had shutouts in the seventh and ninth. VanCamp was ahead at the end of five and had the lead through eight. Kelly finished strongly but those shutouts and 10-8 rounds scored by VanCamp were the difference as VanCamp got the decision. There were no knockdowns in the fight
CUCUO/ SMULDERS It seems that in every card there is a upset. In this PPV, this was it and it was a huge upset. In my opinion, it is a contender for upset of the year, certainly in the lightweights. Cuoco came out in the first and simply punched Smulders all over the ring, but was unable to finish. Smulders some how recovered between rounds and did to Cuoco what Cuoco did to her in the first. She punched her all over the ring. It wasn’t one punch that ended the fight it was an accumulation of rights and lefts to the head that finally put Cuoco down for the count,
GLAU/ CASSIDY This was an unusual fight, the way that it worked out. Cassidy took four of the first five rounds. In fact at the end of ten rounds Cassidy had won six. She get’s the decision right? No she doesn’t, because of the four rounds that Glau won three were shutout and 10-8 rounds that included a knockdown in the final round, The resulting decision was a draw. The bout went into extra rounds with Glau winning the eleventh and twelfth rounds to get the decision
This was not one of my better days in predicting. In fact it was a terrible day. It was not unexpected. After seeing Lookout’s response to our predictions, I knew how this PPV was going to turn out since he already knew the results. |
