TESS VALMORE
MARKLE/ BELLISARIO This was a chance for the Pretty Little whatever to get their first fighter with a winning record. Bellisario was facing a fighter who hadn’t finished a fight, much less won one. It took Markle about two minutes to completely wreck Bellisario with a body attack. Bellisario was left on her knees hugging her midsection. Markle got her first win.
GLAU/ BENSON It’s hard to get a decision when you give up too many early rounds. That is exactly what happened to Benson. Glau managed to take five of the first six rounds. Benson needed to take all the rest of the rounds to get a draw, Benson made mistake in laughing at Glau after Benson had won round 7, Glau came back to win round eight. Now Benson needed a knockout. She piled the punishment on Glau in the last two rounds, but no KO. No win. Glau get the decision
DORMER/ VAUGIER This bout can be summed up in six words. “Dormer didn’t foul, Dormer didn’t win” Vaugier looked very good in this bout, winning seven of the ten rounds, although Dormer had the only two knockdowns, one in the fifth and the other in the tenth. Dormer came close to putting Vaugier away in the tenth, but Vaugier survived to the bell and got the decision
STEWART/ KENDRICK Another case of a fighter getting too far behind early, Stewart took five of the firs six rounds. Kendrick then started a comeback. She hurt Kristen in the seventh, floored her in the eighth and again in the tenth. Kendrick was handing Stewart a beating in the tenth, but then seemed to run out of gas enabling Stewart to finish the round as the aggressor. Stewart won seven rounds, but Kendrick’s two knockdowns made it close. Stewart got the decision
PERRY/ BROOK If you like a good old knockdown brawl, this was your kind of fight. Perry went down in the first and twice in the second. Kelly went down twice in the fourth. Perry was on the canvas again in the fifth. The rest of the rounds were basically mindless slugging with each being hurt. In the end, Kelly scored not only the most knockdowns, she took seven rounds and get the decision. You can make this bout a fight of the year candidate
BOWEN/ N. ANDERSON This was an unexpected bout. Archer’s excellent website lists four Anderson’s and Nicole is not one of them. I don’t know anything much about Anderson, but Bowen has been seen walking the streets of my hometown, Nashville. Anderson did better than I expected. Although being decked in the second, Anderson had a four to three round lead going into the eighth. In the eighth, Anderson ran into a Bowen hurricane. Bowen floored her and then poured on the punishment until Anderson was helpless and the fight was stopped.
HEMMENS/ TISDALE A good bout with close rounds, Neither fighter was able to win back to back rounds. There were no knockdowns and the fight was even through six. Hemmens made a big mistake at the end of the sixth when she belted Tisdale across the mouth after the bell. An enraged Tisdale came out for the seventh looking for blood and she got it. She punched Hemmens helpless and the fight was stopped
STONE/ SEYDOUX You might say that Stone had a bad night. She didn’t get knocked out or stopped, but she had a boxing lesson from Seydoux. Seydoux took eight of the ten rounds and scored the only knockdown, which came in the tenth. Seydoux by a very wide decision,
BLUNT/ M. KELLY After the first three tactical rounds, this fight really got going in the fourth. In the fourth, Kelly decked Blunt and had her nearly helpless at the end of the round. Blunt hurt Kelly in the fifth, and put her on the floor at the end of the sixth. Blunt won the seventh, and then put Kelly on the canvas twice in the eighth, In the tenth, Kelly came close to winning as she floored Blunt, and then was able to punch her at will. Blunt managed to remain upright and got the decision having more knockdown and winning seven rounds.
RIMES/ C. BENNET This was Bennet’s first bout after being promoted to fight status at Front Street. Bennet looked like a champ as she dominated the fight. She won all the rounds but two, and had the only knockdown before punching Rimes into oblivion in the tenth to get a KO win. A great start for Bennet. As for Rimes, she should hang the gloves up. She has little future in the FCBA
LIMA/ PALICKI When the Queen of the Ice Hotel goes against a multiple time FCBA champion, you can bet your first born child on the FCBA champion. This fight proved that rule. Not that it wasn’t a good fight, it was. A lot of punishment was dealt out. Although both were hurt, there were no knockdowns. Lima had the lead at the end of five. After splitting the first four rounds, Lima handed Palicki a shellacking in the fifth but punched herself out. Palicki, the, took the sixth and seventh. Lima had Palicki swooning in the eighth but didn’t finish. In the ninth, Palicki used a series of lefts to set up the rights and beat Lima into a drowsy mess and the fight was stopped. i am told it was Jenny Mac who suggested Palicki’s ninth round tactics of leading with the left
De La GARZA/ YUSTMAN This was one of Yustman’s best showings. De La Garza is a good fighter, but Yustman dominated the fight while it lasted, Outside of De La Garza hurting Odette in the third, Yustman won four of the four plus rounds the fight lasted. Now I have never been hit by Yustman’s right, but I have played tennis against her. It’s formable. In the fifth, she used that right to beat De La Garza helpless and referee stepped in to save De La Garza from further punishment
McADAMS/ OLSEN No much to say about this fight. Olsen was simply out of her class against McAdams. Rachel took the first four rounds. She started the fifth with a hook deep into Olsen’s sternum and ended the fight with a left hook to the liver as Olsen went down for the count. Not a good night for the Academy in the first half of this card. They are 0-3
REGAN/ COLE Regan came out firing taking the first round. Cole came back in the second to deck Regan with a right to the solar plexus. Cole took the third round and Regan won rounds four and five. In the sixth a jab set up a vicious right to Regan's stomach that had her badly hurt. After a few more punches to the body and head, Cole landed another big right to Regan's solar plexus and Regan went down for the count, Cole is getting attention now and may become more active than she has been. Question for Sim. Is Cole still officially a lightweight or has she moved to welter?
DUNST/ PORTMAN To my way of thinking, this bout ended in a minor upset. Dunst got off to a great start taking the first three rounds and flooring Portman in the second, Portman came back to take the next three rounds and make the fight close. Round seven was a crowd pleaser. Dunst put Portman on the canvas twice and then Portman decked Dunst. Portman took rounds eight and nine. Dunst prevailed in the final round. The decision went to Dunst based on her three knockdowns to Portman's one
WATSON/ BILSON The bout didn’t start off well for Bilson as she kissed the canvas in the first. While Bilson came back to take the second, she was losing the fight at the end of six. In the seventh, Bilson started going to work on Watson’s body. In the eighth, after two minutes of jabbing and hooking chest and chin, Bilson went back to the body with buggywhip lashed to the body. Watson couldn’t take the abuse and went down for the count
DURANCE/ BIEL There is no more unpredictable and streaky fighter like Jessica Biel. Jessica came out in the first boxing while throwing some power punches. She took the second and was well on her way to taking the third, when Durance put her down with a right hook. Biel returned the favor by flooring Durance in the fourth. The fight was basically even at the end of six. In the seventh a Durance left to the jaw ended the fight with Biel face down on the canvas. Durance serves notice, she is back and a force to be reckoned with. Her stock should climb in the rankings while Biel goes in the opposite direction
FREEMAN/ THERON For months I have been saying that Charlize should use those “best legs in Hollywood”. She always wants to slug with the naturally bigger welters. Knowing that I predicted she wouldn’t last six against Freeman. It looked like I was going to be right as the first four rounds were terrible for the “goddess” Freeman beat her like a drum. Theron barely managed to stay on her feet in the third round. She want down at the end of the fourth, but Freeman couldn’t close it out. In the fifth, somehow Charlize managed to come out and lure Freeman into palm up hook to the chin and the fight suddenly turned around. Freeman would go down in the fifth. After that, Freeman would win only one more round as Theron danced around jabbing. At the end of ten the fight was declared a draw. In overtime, Charlize had little trouble taking two straight rounds to get the decision. We got a glimpse of the Theron of old
JOHANSSON/ DUSHKU I think this fight ended in an minor upset. We were surprised the way Johansson took the first three rounds. In the fourth Dushku dropped Scarlett with a right to the stomach. We thought this was it. Dushku will close it out. Well she tried but went down from a crashing left to the face. Dushku got to her feet and made a fight of it until another hard left to the face dropped Dushku for the count. I must say it seems the Mr Hawkeye knew what he was doing when he dropped the Hall Of Famer from the Consortium
PANETTIERE/ LIU Despite their denials Foxfire was piling on Liu who is 44 and hadn’t been active, She lost a fight in the last PPV and hadn’t won a fight in four years, so Foxfire decides to give their top flyweight a chance to beat a Hall Of Fame fighter who dominated the flyweights in the early days of the FCBA. Well it just didn’t work out the way Foxfire intended. Hayden floored Liu in the first and took the second round. Liu came back to take the third. It was in the fourth round that disaster struck the Foxfire flyweight. Liu was famous for her off the floor uppercuts. The first a right uppercut that had Panettiere staggering and a left uppercut that closed out the show. Liu took Panettiere on a walk of shame. Some crowd didn’t like it but Panettiere and Foxfire deserved it for going for a supposed easy win. Hey, Smackie, this has to be the cover of the next Boxing World Magazine.
SHAHI/ SCERBO What can I say. Everyone knows Scerbo is my BFF. I really wanted her to win the championship, but it was not to be. Cassie came out slugging in the first round and hurt the champ and dominated the round. In the second a counterpunching Shahi took over and started laying to Scerbo with a body attack that put the challenger down. Scerbo got up, but Shahi continued on the body attack and had Scerbo laying in the ropes. Shahi then unleashed a vicious rack attack that had Scerbo helpless and the fight was stopped. Shahi can now be considered a dominating flyweight. She has had three successful defenses, which is a long time in flyweight terms. Not only has she won three straight defenses, she was the all with KOs by the second round. As for my BFF, she will be back. You can’t keep her down
UPTON/ RIGHETTI If Upton would have won this fight, it would have been upset of the year in the welters. Of course, she didn’t win. She is a one trick pony going against the one of the complete welters if not the only complete welter. Upton did take the first three rounds as Righetti took the time off. By the beginning of the fourth Righetti had enough. She took the fourth, floored Upton in the fifth and punched her helpless in the sixth and the fight was stopped. The weak welter division remains a Righetti play pen. |
