BBU Lightweight Title

Downunder Boxing's Miranda Kerr puts her BBU lightweight title on the line for the first time since winning it from Sayuki Matsumoto back in January and there's more to this fight given the fact former champion Rochelle Humes took a controversial victory over Rachael Finch at the Ashes where she was deemed to to land a deliberate headbutt to derail her opponent's mindset as well as physical shape. Kerr's entourage claims Humes was allowed to foul only to make sure she gets another shot at the title, in case of Finch's victory Humes was never getting this opportunity but since she's made it through against the ACB champion, she's willing to do anything against Miranda and perhaps another slugging affair is on the cards if Kerr isn't careful enough.

However the Australian super model looked very impressive in vicious stoppage of Lucy Pinder at the Ashes and strikes a formidable figure in the ring, still perhaps the most underrated of all the undefeated BBU fighters and in the shadow of one Erika Heynatz but the busy modelling schedule in the States as well as extended holiday breaks back home Down Under affect her appearances and only make tonight's clash a real treat for the fans who had to pay extra just to witness the allegedly highest paid girl on the BBU roster. Is Kerr worth all that money? There are very few who think otherwise!

Round 1:
The crowd still relishes the epic bout between Alaina Huffman and Malika Menard from few minutes ago but the title challenger makes sure the focus fully switches to her in the opening minute as she lashes out at the Aussie champ showing no respect to Kerr whatsoever. Couple of promising hooks test Miranda's ab muscles as she offers little back early and reverts into ducking Humes' spirited approach but then gets clipped on the jaw by a quick cross-hook and mounts a proper response, sends an overhand jab on the nose, misses the target but turns to the side and slips by Rochelle's counter, whacks another hook over the top and tags the temple, pummels between the arms in close range as she ups the tempo and gets the better of the ex-champion in a heated exchange, snaps Humes back couple of times and sends her reeling back to the ropes but refuses to go after her for remainder of the round and just smiles back, blows her a kiss even and signals she's just toying with her more than anything else. Very dangerous demeanour against someone like Rochelle who's used to intimidate her opponents herself but the singer keeps her calm and ignores the apparent mind games Miranda has in store for her.

Round 2:
There's no way Rochelle can wipe that superior looking smile from Miranda's face as she manages to close the Aussie down quickly but bounces off her forearms and must weave on her feet in avoidance as the super model flicks an immediate response over the top and grazes the temples before switching low and piercing the midriff from both flanks. Humes refuses to yield real estate though and sends uppercuts between the arms in close range, bounces off the rack briefly but gets spiked on the liver area as Miranda's precision enables her to stagger the singer in the middle of the ring and continue the barrage; Humes' midsection endures sharp leather and as Rochelle misses more hooks over the top with Miranda bending nicely in avoidance a cracking left hook nails the challenger on the nose to give the model the ultimate breakthrough. Humes stumbles back and covers up as she's unable to leap away to safety in time and soaks up more strikes over the top with Kerr pushing her towards the ropes but just failing to secure a more dominant position as Rochelle bounced off at the very last second and got clipped on the hairline before locking a clinch around the model's waist to see out the round.

Round 3:
Rochelle's determined to make some inroads but she can't get around the model's footwork and single strikes in mid-range, has to accept Kerr's tactics and fails to beat her for the overhand punch once Miranda decided to mount a charge, just off the temple and only grazing the breasts as Miranda harpoons her on the nose instead and bashes to the chin thereafter, snaps the singer's head back and keeps working around the high guard down the stretch; Rochelle's forced to dance on her toes again, gets spiked on repeated basis anyway as Kerr shows immaculate precision and speed, uses the slight reach advantage into her favor and hassles the challenger all over the ring with the crowd somewhat stunned but just enjoying the rare opportunity of seeing the super model in action. Miranda's smile remains in tact while Rochelle wipes the sweat off her forehead in the final seconds already, just can't handle the Aussie's tactics whatsoever and it still looks like Kerr is running on deep reserve and seemingly waits for the English girl's bubble to burst.

Round 4:
It's a different kind of performance from Kerr compared to her Ashes stoppage of Lucy Pinder but there's no doubt Humes is a superior rival to the buxom glamour model. However she hasn't really hurt Humes so far and falls into a spirited jabbing series from the singer who realizes she must take the momentum firmly into her gloves and does so well in the opening minute, whacks Miranda around the elbows and seeks midriff damage, has the Aussie blonde slipping in avoidance and for once losing her hitherto composed footwork; uppercut switch bounces off the rack as Miranda soaks up vicious leather and must cover up with Rochelle finally unloading some venom and just ripping between the arms. Crowd ups the cheers as Humes frantically seeks chest punishment and ducks under a wide overhand response, nails Kerr on the chin and leans on her even more, pierces the guard for good and tags the windpipe as she bounces off the jugs and slides above them; Miranda's forced to step back or clinch, choses the latter, sends low jabs around the elbows but Humes shows some core strenght and shrugs her off, swings one more time before the bell with a vicious hook but just can't land that punch; still removes the smile from the model's face as she won that slugging exchange and the champion knows it best.

Round 5:
Both women bump into each other now that Miranda has dropped the toying tactics and seeks redemption for that previous round, Rochelle's happy to accept the slugfest, confident in the big punch she's put so many rivals away with before but she gets tagged on the mouth first as Kerr finds that precision again and the posibility of setting up the scene with the opening blow; quick follow up bounces off the singer's nose and cracks her high guard but she responds over the top, incredible flexibility for someone of Miranda's height let it slip by her and the counter's on again from the side, bashing hooks against the singer's temples and slamming her on the nose on the minute mark again! Rochelle trembles and must cover up as she gets outworked in close range for a change, fights back from behind the guard but Kerr increases the ammount of leather, peppers the mitts apart in productive fashion and tags the nose few times more, makes Humes' arms drop a bit and bounces off the top of her head in addition, switches low after another quick move to the side, avoids a jabbing combo on the body and spikes Rochelle on the liver to stagger her in the middle of the ring again but the clock expires moments later to prevent a looming assault and Humes spits out her mouthpiece in frustration as Miranda's seemingly back on track much quicker than intended.

Round 6:
Miranda leaps into a forward charge, nearly catches Rochelle by surprise but as the singer manages to cover up in time, she gets harpooned around the elbows and the model's pace and agility prove suprior anyway, heavy slaps cause a nice and telling sound with Humes yelping in discomfort but just unable to land that famous big punch of hers; Kerr cuts her off with the longer reach, peppers the ribcage through the minute mark and switches into a rack assault thereafter as Humes gets thrown on the back foot and just grazes the forearms in subdued response. She's rocking and weaving by the final minute, avoids siginificant facial damage for a change but Kerr shows more impressive skills, whacks the midriff pillar to post and signs off the round with a quick uppercut between the arms; Rochelle's reduced into a training dummy for the best part, totally exposed in mid-distance and losing confidence as well as energy supply, dropped her arms in submissive fashion before the bell and got her head snapped back which brought the smile to the model's face again.

Round 7:
Charlie Webster begins to wonder how Rochelle would have competed against Rachael Finch without that clash of heads that cut the Aussie up as Miranda keeps punishing the Saturdays singer from the opening bell for another time, slips by a tired looking hooking approach and whacks her straight between the arms instead, rocks Humes' breasts and whips a right hook on the temple which results in a painful shriek from Rochelle's mouth; head-snapping combo follows as Miranda seeks destruction, cross-hooks the ailing guard aside and has a field day against the challenger's face, tags the nose and mouth in quick succession, bounces off the brow ridge as Humes wobbles forward but can't cover up properly nor clinch the rampant champion, left hook on the eye, right hook on the mouth again leaves Rochelle with a fat lip and wobbling on her feet, another left hook on the temple sends her onto the ropes, bouncing straight into the path of a left hook on the eye... HUMES IS DOWN moments later, the relentless barrage finally breaking her resilience and it's a bad knockdown as the singer only climbs to her feet at seven and battles misty eyes with Kerr just staring at her with that superior smile... Rochelle is given another go here but remains trapped on the ropes as Miranda pierces her guts and makes her moan even louder, no punch is wasted in the overwhelming destruction of the singer's willpower; Kerr just wrenches her to the turnbuckle in the dying seconds of the round and is on the verge of retaining the title as Humes hugs her aching stomach and walks slowly to her corner looking utterly demolished mentally as well as physically.

Round 8:
Rochelle gets up for the eight round but Miranda's after the wounded prey in no time, fakes another midriff assault and makes the slow moving singer drop her arms in protection, switches high immediately and lands couple of hooks on the chin to sag the English vixen on her knees for good; more leather bounces off Humes' temples and she shrieks in pain one more time as Kerr just whacks her without any resistance whatsoever and ref finally shows mercy, hauls the model off her battered opponent and that was just at the last second with Rochelle tumbling to her backside seconds later unable to live with the ruthless pounding she's been fed with tonight. As she leans her head against the canvas and bellows out into a sobbing mess, Miranda raises her glove in the air and the crowd begins to applaud her larger-than-life destruction of one of the most fearsome punchers in the country... TKO8 and STILL the lightweight champion... Miranda Kerr!!!

AFTER: Charlie Webster's quick to confirm that Miranda Kerr IS worth all that money she's been paid by BritBoxing Unlimited. "That was truly impressive from the reigning champion. And she looked like she didn't really care in the opening three rounds, openly mocking Rochelle's otherwise jaw-dropping record. There was a blip in the fourth when Rochelle had the upperhand but her title quest folded quicker than Gordon Brown's tenure at Downing Street thereafter. It's almost a shame we don't get to see Miranda more often in BBU but the word is, and I must say, even my colleagues from Green & Gold are very reluctant to admit that, she demands more money for even entering the ring than all other champions combined. At the end of the day though, we should be happy she hasn't been picked up by the FCBA in all those years and we get to enjoy one of the best super models there ever was right here in UK. And I know she'd held her own against the best US-based models like Marisa Miller, Joanna Krupa or Candice Swanepoel. If there's any marketing God out there, we should lure some of them to Europe next year to experience another crossover showpiece the BBU so richly deserves!"

Final result: Miranda Kerr def. Rochelle Humes TKO8.
