Keri Russell addresses the media before the press conference

"Diamond Boxing Club remains committed to giving unsigned girls a chance to showcase their boxing skills in our ring. We're working on another full card of boxing featuring some of your favorite under-utilized girls. But, until then, we humbly present this DBC One Shot for your enjoyment."

Joanna Garcia confident at the podium. Her winless record doesn’t seem to be getting her down. "Nope. I haven't won a fight yet. But it’s not from lack of trying. I took Alison Mack the distance. I took Pink FOURTEEN rounds! It seemed like those performances would get people interested in my boxing skills. But my phone just never rang. I think girls are afraid to fight an inexperienced girl like me. There’s no upside for them if they beat me. That’s what they were supposed to do. But if I win, which I’ve shown that I have the tools to do, then that’s embarrassing for them. When Benny called and offered me this fight, I just grabbed my boxing bag and jumped on the plane. (chuckling) Yes, I had a bag of boxing gear packed in my closet. I’ve been wanting another fight for a long time!

Sophia Bush: I never had a problem getting fights. My career stalled out when I hit my head on the ceiling. I fought Rachel McAdams, Michelle Williams, Kate Beckinsale, Jenny McCarthy, Minka, Hayden… I had quite a rivalry with Hayden. See, GETTING the fights was never my problem. I just couldn’t seem to break through. Then, since boxing wasn’t working out, I tried some… “alternative” fighting styles. Yeah, boxing on the beach, but there’s a story about a boxcar I don’t want to get into right now. This time I’d like stick to boxing and start small, really take my time and learn the lessons a championship boxer needs to learn. Lesson one is going to be me knocking out Joanna Garcia in that ring on fight night!

Round 1: Joanna looking to stir up trouble out of the gate, stalking the disciplined footwork and consistent jab of Sophia. It’s floating and fluttering from Bush, but her jab isn’t enough to keep the redhead outside. Now it’s Garcia landing her combos, getting off in twos and threes. She’s not feeling much resistance from her girl, so Joanna looks to load up with the heavier stuff. WOW! It’s tasty hooks and tight body blows, all landing on Sophia. Bush’s legs are looking sturdy but she needs to discourage Joanna somehow. That jab is just not getting it done! Garcia gets on her bicycle to get away from the pain, and she runs until the bell. Ref gives her a stern look, remind her to get to punching. Sophia Bush knows she badly needs to regroup in her corner as she plops down on her stool.

Round 2: Full tactical reset in the Bush corner. Deep breaths from Sophia as she comes out for round two. She’s dancing, now landing her punches to keep Garcia off balance. Here’s the ring generalship that Sophia wanted to show. Bush looking comfortable now. Is this the same girl we saw in the first round? Garcia looking frustrated, swinging at air, and constantly poked and prodded by Bush’s gloves. Nothing heavy landing, but now it’s definitely Sophia’s ring. She can’t quite keep it going for the full round, as Joanna lands a few solid shots late. But it’s a very different fight now. And it’s Joanna Garcia’s corner that will be looking for answers.

Round 3: No tactical changes for Joanna. She believes in her skills and continues that aggressive prowl. Always coming forward to close down any space between the fighters. Sophia’s jab still her favorite punch. But now it’s Garcia, ducking under and DIGGING that hook to the body of Sophia Bush! She acts like it didn’t hurt her, but the look on her face says she felt that power! Garcia felt that little give in her tummy when that punch hit home. She knows the pressure is starting to pay off. Joanna ups her punch count, forcing Sophia to cover up and avoid the heaviest blows. Stalwart defence from Bush gives her a chance to counter, snapping Joanna’s head back with crisp punches, as she uses to opportunity to escape from danger.

Round 4: Garcia can’t hit what she can’t find. And it’s Bush doing a masterful job of controlling her opponent. She’s managing distance, dodging and blocking the big shots, and chipping away at the body and will of Joanna. But it only takes one punch to change a fight and it’s Joanna Garcia BURYING THAT BIG HOOK to the body! The wind GUSHES out of Sophia Bush as she covers up, feeling the effects of that huge shot! Bush looks like she’s stuck in slow motion and Joanna Garcia can finally step and slug. Sophia rides it out best she can, but you can see a hint of doubt in her eyes as she walks back to her corner. Joanna whispers as she walks by “Figured you out now, honey!”.

Round 5: Garcia brimming with confidence as she closes in, looking to pile on damage to the breathless beauty. She’s back to those combinations, getting off several hard punches before Sophia can get away. It’s Joanna, closing again, when SOPHIA PLANTS TWO THUNDERBOLTS on her face!! Garcia goes wobbly but shows that tight little guard as she staggers back into the ropes, bracing for the onslaught, and HERE COMES SOPHIA! It’s that thudding body work and those laser uppercuts up the middle! Garcia just sponging it up, trying to trade back but she’s clearly on the back foot here. There’s the bell and the ref has to dive in and pull Sophia Bush off!! She’s seething with bloodlust, finally getting off on her tormentor. Garcia sways unsteadily in the cords until her corner comes to collect her. A big job ahead for them during the break.

Round 6: Joanna getting massaged in her corner. They tell her she needs to reestablish control of this fight and she comes out looking to slug with steely-eyed resolve. Sophia resuming her dance around the ring, flicking out her jab. But Garcia COMES OVER THE TOP, landing a SLEDGEHAMMER TO THE CHIN!! And Sophia is on rubber legs as Joanna takes what she wants! She’s targeting the body, knowing that’s what slows down Sophia’s slick footwork. And it’s vicious work from Joanna, targeting whatever is open, lathering brutal shots to tummy and chin! Sophia is throwing looping haymakers, but getting beaten to every punch! And it’s Garcia with a left and right to the aching body of Sophia! She follows it with a crunching hook upstairs, unhinging Bush’s defense, leaving her open for a finishing blow! And it’s a spiteful right uppercut THAT LAYS OUT SOPHIA BUSH!! She’s sent crashing to floor, starched stiff with her gloves outstretched over her head! The ref could count to a million but he only needs to count to ten! AND IT’S OVER! What a finish! As Sophia Bush is knocked out cold by Joanna Garcia in a KO6!

After: Sophia’s corner rushes to her aid but she is still out cold on another planet. That uppercut really did a number on her! Her people tell her to stay down as they come to her aid. They shield her from seeing the spectacle of Joanna Garcia celebrating her victory.

Garcia is jumping on the turnbuckle flexing and preening for the adoring crowd. She goes to check on Sophia, but is shooed away as Bush is in no condition to receive well wishes.

Garcia offers praise in her post fight comments. “There’s no doubt about it, Sophia Bush can fight. She gave me some real trouble there. I just could not land on her. But when I finally found her, I knew she couldn't take my punch. And you’re gonna see that same story play out over and over when I’m in the ring. Run all you want girls, but I will find you and knock you out!!”

Sophia Bush finally coherent in her corner, dejected as she accepts an interview. “I had her figured out. I was owning the ring and landing the punches I wanted. And she caught me somehow. She just had the answer for me tonight.”
