Before: Tripplehorn coming off the big upset over Carrere - Tia just unable to get her face away from Jeanne's pounding, well timed jab. Marceau much more evasive than Carrere however, expected to give Jeanne angles - Tripplehorn's clever hands may not be enough to compensate for heavy feet. Jeanne in beige bra and panties, hair up - Sophie in black bikini, hair loose.

R1: As expected, Jeanne rifling out the left hand from a sound defensive posture - Sophie bending at the waist, dipping and slipping, looking for counter ops. Late in the round, Sophie stepping back as she sways her upper body side to side, drops the left foot back, pushes off suddenly and nails Jeanne a hard straight left on the teeth. Tripplehorn stunned, staggers back across the ring as Marceau struts forward, hands at her sides. Sophie sweeping the left off her hip clouts Jeanne across the mouth, dips low to the right, then sweeps back the other way, dragging the heavy right from her knees into Jeanne's breadbasket. Tripplehorn wide eyed, getting trounced, lucky to hear the bell as Marceau has her loose-limbed way with the challenger.

R2: Jeanne expressionless, seems fully recovered and goes back to work. Jab doesn't always connect, but it's making Marceau safety conscious - French girl making Jeanne miss, but not making her pay. Midway through the round, Tripplehorn plugging a hard straight right hand to the body, comes back with a fluid left hook on the chops to jerk Marceau to the side. Wake up call for Sophie a little too late as Jeanne earns the points.

R3: Pattern evolving - Sophie retreating with supple upperbody undulation, weaving back and forth, keeping her head low, but not getting off. Jeanne stepping forward, shooting out that bullet train left to keep Marceau wary and scoring the odd heavy straight right to the body. Round to Tripplehorn as the effective aggressor in a tough to score round.

R4: Sophie patting Jeanne's tummy with the backhand right jab, then circling away, trying to loosen up Tripplehorn's stance, but Jeanne won't bite. Midway through the round, double jab makes Marceau lean way to her left - Jeanne chops the short right hand into Sophie's ear and drops the French girl to all fours. Sophie up quick, but has to cover up as pelting jabs bash against her gloves and arms. Tripplehorn hammers out another round.

R5: All Jeanne T for most of the round as Marceau melts away, never getting caught flush, but just not busy enough offensively. Final minute, Sophie has Jeanne marching forward and catches her once again with the step back - lurch forward with the sneaky straight left hand and TRIPLHORNE IS HURT! Jeanne walking into the punch, feet step wrong and she covers up to take a licking in the dying seconds. Sophie putting whip armed punches together to the brunette's rib cage, steals a Tripplehorn round.

R6: Jeanne T finally looks a little shaken up - backing away for the first time in the match and setting up with her butt on the ropes. Sophie cupping her hands on Jeanne's elbows, holding, then swatting her punches in short licks from either side - girls standing more or less straight up - Marceau slapping her girl around. Final minute - Jeanne's plan becomes apparent as she times Sophie perfectly for a buttocks wobbling clipping left hook on the chin, catching Marceau mid punch and nearly putting her on deck. Sophie rubbery legged, clinches madly for the bell as Jeanne steals a round back.

R7,8: Jeanne stone faced, walking Sophie down, and firmly establishing that jab on Marceau's breasts and face. Sophie melting under the constant pressure - she's still making Jeanne miss, but Tripplehorn won't be discouraged, touching Sophie all around the ring. Seventh goes as a shutout as Sophie's offense disappears - she's on her heels, writhing away or clinching for breaks as Tripplehorn grinds away.

R9: Jeanne getting there with power now, jabbing Marceau into her defensive lean, then double pumping the hook to the waist to sap the life out of the French woman. Marceau rocked repeatedly from hard body shots in the first minute has no choice - rest of the round is slugging action as Marceau stands her ground and actually slashes her way to win several exchanges. Judges like Tripplehorn's heavy handed power early - she takes the round.

R10: Shutout Jeanne Tripplehorn. Marceau with her gloves at her face, giving Jeanne that lead shoulder and dipping under a lot of leather, but it's the same old story. Jeanne's preponderance of punching more than enough to take the round, and Marceau's not taking any risks to mix it up. Sophie finishes strong and on her feet, but Tripplehorn nods confidently at the bell. UD10 Jeanne Tripplehorn.

After: Jeanne remains stoic even with the announcement - just another day in the office. Perfunctory hug sends Sophie back to her corner with her dignity if not her title. Tripplehorn really impressing pundits with this effort, beating a completely different opponent than Tia with a patient, subtle style and a rivetting jab that might be the best in boxing. After a tough first half, Tripplehorn pounded out 5 straight rounds to thoroughly dominate the slick French cutey.
