Before: Hu dogged by Julie Brown, MTV, fans and pundits alike for her shabby treatment at the hands of the sexy VJ - comes back with a title defense against Electra designed to shut everybody up. "I admit I didn't see Brown coming," says a defensive Hu in pre-fight, "but I barely trained 2 weeks for that fight - no roadwork, and she fought the fight of her life - what are you going to do? She knows she's a ham and egger out to make a quick buck - end of story." Carmen looking to reclaim the title once thought to be hers by birthright in what is generally regarded as the highest calibre match that can be made at bantam - although both girls have the skills to make the fight boring if they chose. Hu in black aerobics two piece, slick ponytail, Carmen in purple high neck aerobics two piece, highlighted hair loose.

During R1: Hu catching Carmen flatfooted sends a message this round. Getting off rivet gun one-twos straight up the middle, Kelly goes left/right left/right, slides back while feeding Electra the jab off the hip, then back in with drilling one-twos as Carmen comes forward to gobble. Hu dancing away to open up the canvas, then setting up her line of retreat to complete these sequences time and again has Electra floundering badly by the final minute. Down the stretch, Hu with her left shoulder pointed at Carmen, turns into a slashing right hand counter on the eye that spanks back Electra's head with a flourish. Electra wobbly butt - standing pathetically midring with hands extended gets savaged to the ropes as Hu swarms - Vicious beat down at the bell as a stupified Carmen Electra stand with gloves at her lips - eyebrows arching high over closed eyes as she soaks up withering lefts and rights from an enraged champ. Carmen left humming at the bell as Hu stomps away with a brutal shutout.

R2: Kelly wants more. She slides in like she's going to shoulder up, then slides out and drills that catspaw right hand on the same busted up eye to put Electra wobbly butt seconds in. 2 minutes spent consolidating that punch as Hu steps in and out, leaning away behind that left shoulder with her chin tucked as Carmen swings blindly in response. Electra on the board late - scoring a flagrant low blow to halt Hu's attack - Kelly getting a break to huff and puff with one hand on the ropes, but it's Carmen who gets a chance to recover. Electra walking Hu down, bringing it to the body at the bell.

R3: Carmen slowly turns the tide - body shots accumulating on Hu, forcing her to open up her stance and trade a little more - crowd getting into it as two girls who know better stand and slug it up, each spanking each other satisfactorily to the face or jugs in heartless two way action. Electra winning the smash mouth sessions - Hu forced onto her heels - she moving backwards and grimacing at the bell as Electra starts to prowl.

R4: Kelly back to her sniper look, closed stance, trying to fit Carmen for right hands, but Electra's got her legs back and isn't cooperating. It's Carmen moving in and out now, drawing punches from Hu and countering with her own unorthodox bombs from wide angles. Midway through, Electra jumps up out of a deep crouch to drive in her trademark left uppercut to the belly - shouting in triumph as Hu is lifted to her toes and doubled over in pain. Carmen brawling to follow up isn't as effective as she could be - Hu showing good composure by slipping, retreating out of trouble and escaping the round hurt, but able to continue.

R5: Hammer and tongs round - again, classy girls choosing to stand and deliver as the crowd gets a rare glimpse at the oft criticized hearts of both women. Hu leading with right hands on the teeth as she rocks forward, rocking away with catspaw left hooks on the eye - Electra less predictable, winging the wild left uppercut, but then twisting in and down behind slashing overhand rights - plus she's going to the body more than Hu. Rotating midring - girls just take turns polishing one another up - crowd screaming at the bell as the girls are physically separated.

R6: Bashing slugfest all to Carmen's liking - Kelly winning in spots, but she's getting more and harder on average than she's used to and Electra's feeding off the damage. Carmen getting stronger as Hu starts to give ground - Kelly covering up to take more often, reaching around Carmen's back to clinch when she's had enough - Electra trying to shuck the arms and keep punching looks more aggressive by the end of the 6th.

R7: Kelly digging down and answering Electra's belligerence with new determination. Both girls looking busted up, lumpy around the eyes, defence getting a little ragged as both lower their fists for more leverage on haymaking swings. Hu getting it done with straighter punching, often sneaking in that right hand before Electra's punch can land - Carmen getting rung up and refusing to back off stays right in the killzone. Slugging continues after the bell - Hu bouncing her fists off Carmen's available face as the ref steps in.

R8: Electra upping Hu's ante - tackles Kelly into the ropes, squares away and goes to town - Hu covering up and hunching over to receive harsh treatment to her body and biceps. Shove and slug from Electra as she beats on Hu, steps with her as Kelly slides along the ropes with an open mouthed pout of hurt. Midway through, Electra working Hu over in a corner - Carmen straightens into her uppercut to the pit of Hu's stomach, holding the fist in as Kelly crumples - Carmen grinning and pouring it on as Hu falters. Swarming clubfist action as Electra beats the back and sides with swabbing wide strokes, coming off the body to tag the chin whenever Kelly stands straight up. Disasterous round leaves Kelly throbbing, cut in the mouth, and disoriented - when asked for the round - she says "6".

R9: Shutout Kelly Hu! Seesaw action continues as Hu goes back to a boxing look - closing her stance, showing Electra nothing but shoulder, lifting the jab off her hip, sliding back and making Carmen pay with licking right hands from the shoulder. Electra touched up around that left eye - she's looking used, listless as Hu picks at her like a crow playing with roadkill. At the bell, Hu stands, nodding insolently, staring at Electra's ear as the girl wanders away slightly dazed.

R10: Who wants it more? Fight up for grabs and both women come out banging, chasing one another across the ring with gambling 4 punch rips, each with plenty of life left in her legs, zip on her punches. Too close to call until the final minute - Electra sweeping herself off balance with a monster right hand - Hu able to lean away, pivot to her left and drill a right hand counter over Carmen's right shoulder to the jawline - ELECTRA'S HURT! Carmen with a dazed "OH NO!" look, staggers away as Hu greedily walks her down. Crowd screaming as Hu squares up icy-eyed, letting her hands go up and down on the ruined former champ. Electra propping her butt on the rope, gloves at her lips gets absolutely ragdolled - blistering double and triple left hooks on her jaw break down her defence, leaving her open for the shattering straight right hand on the face that snaps Carmen's head back with a dangerous lolling action. Bell sounds - Electra's face streaked like a butcher's floor - Hu's vicious punching has shown no mercy, but couldn't produce the stoppage. Decision comes back a narrow, but convincing UD10 for the winner and STILL champion Kelly Hu.

After: Much needed victory for Hu leaves Carmen dazed, out on her feet, and shows that Kelly can win a tough, close scrap - something not everyone was convinced of. Hu hurt plenty in this fight sucked it up and kept functioning - her conditioning did appear to be superior to that shown in the Brown fight. Electra turned back again - losing's getting to be a habit for the once self-proclaimed 'baddest woman in boxing'.
