Before: Paramount title up for grabs - controversial bout features 2 girls with question marks. Packard no stranger to title contention, having been a fixture in the division for many years, but pundits had all but written the classy blonde off as a potential titlist. Cruz with blazing talent, but many feel she hasn't paid her dues - beatings from some sturdy veterans have exposed the stunning brunette as a slugger who needs to fine tune her game. "It stinks," grumbles malcontent Salma Hayek, "Anyone can see Penelope is being fed a used blonde by the studios - I could batter them both on the same night!" Penelope in red push up and panties, Kelly in black string bikini.

During R1-2: Penelope takes the first, Kelly the second in crisp, classy boxing from outside. Cruz with her fists up near her cheeks, backs of her hands facing Kelly - it's a defensively responsible stance to begin the bout. Packard with her palms out, hands high, flicking multiple jab sequences to the face and belly as she circles. Cruz cutting off the ring, Packard sliding away, dragging her lead foot ala Ricardo Lopez, always in position to punch - not a lot of contact as the girls fight safety first, using plenty of ring.

R3: Kelly shooting hard straight right hands down and into the pit of Penelope's stomach, has the brunette grunting - midway through, Packard slips a Cruz right cross, pumps a shovelling right hand to the stomach, then straightens up sharp to catch Cruz' chin with the biting left hook - PENELOPES GOES DOWN! Brunette proving chinny again as the light hitting Packard scores paydirt. Busy Kelly pounds straight lead rights to the body to get Penelope ropeside, then rakes rangy left hooks to the body and head, bending and swaying at the waist to make Cruz miss with flailing counters. Shutout Kelly Packard.

R4: Spaniard sucks it up, comes out gambling with uninhibited swinging from the hips. Packard slipping the punches, but getting nailed by elbows and a bony shoulder butt in the teeth, gives ground stubbornly as she tries to maintain her form. Through the middle minute - it's a standoff - Penelope swinging for the fences, Kelly dipping, sliding, getting a hand in behind Cruz' right elbow to sidestep her midring, but unable to score herself. Down the stretch, Packard dipping side to side, starts to brush up Cruz' ribs with sticking lefts and rights at the bell. Round scored a draw - Penelope dives in with a late right hand to turn Kelly's head, earn boos.

R5: Cruz settles down, and it's a mistake - Packard takes control with her slick boxing skills, outjabbing Penelope, punching her hard to the body, stepping away with calling card hooks to the Spaniard's bulging bra. Penelope missing over the top with her slinging right cross - Packard always answering back with the whippy left hook to the ribs, doubled up hook on the teeth. Kelly brazen late, pushing Penelope to the ropes, getting her head on Cruz's chest and pumping away with galloping lefts and rights to the belly at the bell. Round to Packard - Cruz grimacing, tearing into her trainers during the break.

R6: Wild Penelope Cruz explodes off her stool this round. Packard rolling with punches, bending side to side and trying to turn her foe, but Penelope's whirlwind of fists, elbows and shoulders just overwhelming. Kelly unable to attack, tries to clinch up high - Cruz shoves the blonde's arms up, then stuffs crude right hands to the belly until the ref issues the break - a breathless Kelly Packard hanging off the brunette's neck. Penelope stalking Packard around the ring, winging insane overhand rights that routinely miss, but the looping return left hands are clapping loud against Packard's head. Cruz the aggressor throughout - Packard just clinching and running this round.

R7: Lanky limbed girls trade toe to toe, flat footed for the first time in the bout, each ringing the other up satisfactorily with curling punches, gangly delivery at close range. Both love to double up on the hook to the body, lashing the punch in with gusto, then covering up to take her medicine. In the end, Cruz' hard right cross threatens to hurt Packard - Kelly puts on a bewildering display of torso movement, bobbing effortlessy in and out, up and down to run the clock. Scored a draw, but Cruz bellowing at the bell comes away pumped at Packard's perceived reluctance.

R8: Penelope continues to apply pressure with her legs, constantly taking the fight to Kelly. Packard licks the hook to the body, Penelope rockets over the top with the counter right hand and PACKARD IS HURT! Kelly in trouble, bobs and bends as she stumbles back into the ropes - Cruz leaping forward with outrageous swings, dark hair tossing madly as she flails away. Kelly freezes, stooped over as Cruz pumps a series of lanky lefts and rights into the belly - Penelope grinning wildly as she heaps on the abuse. Cruz using her elbows and forearms hard against the slender arms of the blonde, Packard crying out from the cracking fouls as the punishment adds up. Down the stretch, Kelly slides into a corner, bounces side to side then spins off the ropes, running out the clock as Cruz furiously gives chase. Round to Penelope as she taunts a battered Kelly P with sheets of obscenties at the bell.

R9: Kelly in full retreat, trying to pick off punches, but the brunette manages to ram home a diving right hand on the teeth to get the blonde crumbling early. All Penelope as she pushes up on Packard at the ropes, lashing punches to the belly and trunks, then torquing upstairs with clouting left-rights on the jaw. Packard forced to fight for her life, and a blistering, slender armed brawl breaks out as the girls slug it up at the ropes. Down the stretch, Cruz beats Kelly to a clanging hook on the jaw, then beats her to a shattering right that leaves Packard stupefied against the ropes. Horrific beat down in the final seconds as Cruz swings away, batting Packard's listless head side to side at the bell. Kelly swooning, helped to her corner, refuses to quit with only one round remaining.

R10: Kelly Packard's beautiful, fragile face in ruins, legs shot - she comes out with the heart of a lioness as Cruz bears down with crashing right hand power. Packard still able to slip the right, falls in to clinch, bogging the brunette down and the final round is a sloppy, hurtful exercise in fitting punches into stomachs, jamming hard elbows onto jaws out of tight clinches. Packard survives the round, but takes the worst of it again, cut in the mouth, bleeding from the nostrils as Cruz shoulder butts her hard in the teeth after the bell. Comes back UD10 Penelope Cruz.

After: Heartless walk of shame dished out to a badly beaten Kelly Packard - Penelope baring her teeth, pulling her defeated foe roughly around the ring in display. Packard rejected in yet another title attempt, blonde needs to restablish herself against top contenders to regain credibility. Cruz proving she can get it done against a girl who can't punch, but there are plenty of unbelievers out there - including one Salma Hayek who is very vocal about Cruz' shortcomings.
