Boxing After Dark

Before: Gershon returns to the ring after semi-retirement imposed by back-to-back losses to Deborah Unger had the sensual brunette questioning her game. Gershon. Gershon/Shue on the longest, bitterest rivalries around—their on-set brawls during the filming on “Cocktail” and “Palmetto” the stuff of Hollywood legend, but both have always held hard-hearted respect for the other. Gina with the career edge over Liz,, but remains to be seen if the classy brunette can shake off the rust—Shue winning the pre-fight psyche-war with a threat to “punch Gina’s lungs out”. Yikes. Black sports bra, metallic snake skin bikini bottoms, top knot ponytail for Gina, black sports bra white and blue ocean print bikini bottoms, short curly tousle for Liz.

During R1: Gershon out with that uncanny Ray Leonard look, left low, right at her cheek and she starts ringing Liz uo with blistering shirt left hooks on the cheek, pivoting to the left and punching as Shue turns into the maelstrom, Liz getting rocked—Gina sets down on a vicious series of ripping lefts and rights, clipped short shots all that pound in between and around the blonde’s guard to out her wobbly butt. Gershon stepping off with 3 more crunching hooks realizes Shue won’t go—she tortures the stunned blonde the rest of the way with delicious stick and move to the bell. Liz glassy eyed, wanders back to her corner—shutout double G.

R2: Gershon back in tight, working with sudden, explosive combinations, then stepping to her left—Liz busting up, bending at the waist with her arms crossed, just fielding bursts upside her head. Shue proving rugged however—midway through, Gina stops to admire another ripping flurry—Shue soaks it up and answers back a crashing hook that catches Gershon leaning back wide eyed and too slow to evade. GG staggering back, badly rocked, hits the ropes hard and covers up. Shue making good on her pre-fight promises goes to the lungs with both fists. HAMMERING and shoving with brutal intensity. Gershon wobbly but, but she manages to clinch her way out of the mess, walking Shue to mid ring, then setting up behind a bashing jab to run the clock. Liza all shined up, Gina already cringing from hellacious body work—both girls slump heavily on their stools during the break.

R3: Gershon lifting the jab off her hip. Sliding back to walk Shue into the clipping hook, short right hand combination. Liz getting pegged, but she keeps coming on and by the midway point, she’s bashing ribs with sharp, curling lefts and rights. Gina doesn’t like it, folding forward to clinch in exhaustion, sexy lips parted as she gasps for breath. Shue just muscling her foe now, walking Gershon to the ropes, rampaging to the gut as Gina sags, clinches in desperation. Final minute—Shue making Gina fight—brunette getting banged up with her butt on the ropes, trying to slider to her right as Liz pushes up on her and punches with mindless persistence. Skidding right hand off the temple sends Gershon stumbling to a corner—brunette pushing weak punches at the blonde when a looping right hand spanks face to put Gina wide on the ropes. Shue stepping in close, pushes Gina’s head top the side with her left, then BURIES that left hook in behind the elbow and GERSHON GOES DOWN! Gina G sobbing on all fours, right elbow pressed tight against her battered ribs and IT’S OVER! KO3 Elisabeth Shue!

After: But of an upset given their history, but Shue’s been very active this year and it showed as Gina’s timing not as sharp as we’re used to seeing. “I know better than to trade with Liz at the ropes,” a weary and disappointed brunette says in the post fight, “but my legs weren’t there tonight. It was a tough fight to take for a comeback, but I know I’ve got more work to do now—I know where I stand., I’m back to stay, I feel good at lightweight, and when it all come together, I’ll be wearing belts again. Write it down.”
